Love, Girls is a q***r Filipino youth-led zine project started in July 2021. It aims to publish a zine every Pride Month on Pride Day (June 28), all the while developing written content for multiple social media platforms relating to LGBTQ+ advocacy, specifically Filipino LGBTQ+ women, and working toward a more inclusive Filipino youth community. MISSION

Love, Girls is determined to empower the F

To do this, we provide a platform for Filipino LGBTQ+ women to express their art and passions so as to raise their experiences and concerns to the public and move fellow youth to partake in LGBTQ+ advocacy. VISION

Love, Girls aims to become a safe space and a source of encouragement for young LGBTQ+ women in the country. We promote connecting to, relating with, and reflecting on their own and others' experiences through developing their artistic expressions, literary writings, and social, cultural, and political observations. 📣 “It reduced q***r people into being a one-trick pony; they aren’t seen as human beings, but rather as props or story arcs for another character to build upon.” 📣

This quote is only one of the many intriguing insights discussed in an upcoming anonymously-written and a designed piece entitled, “Q***r Coding: How Gender Stereotypes Villanized the LGBTQ+ in Film”. 🌈 🎞️

With artwork by Kat Palmaria, this op-ed talks about how q***r coding and q***rbaiting are used in films and shows. Not only that, but the article also sheds light on how these ‘widely-used industry tactics’ of writing LGBTQ+ characters do more harm than good in representing the community. 🙅

What kind of harm, you say? Well, stay tuned this July 8th on ISSUU to find out! 👀

Yes, we ARE tired of keeping the story straight too! 😫

But don’t fret! Love, Girls has managed to stay ahead of the curve (pun intended) 😆🌈. Tomorrow will be a historical day for not only us, but also for the LGBTQ+ community and advocacy as we launch 🏳️‍🌈 SAGISAG 🏳️‍🌈.

Yes, you saw that right! TOMORROW, JULY 8TH! 🥳

You can check out our maiden issue, which features literary 📝 and visual 🖼️ pieces on what is currently happening in and for the Philippine LGBTQ+ community (q***r Filipinas, especially) 🏳️‍🌈🇵🇭. Topics like ‘q***r themes in popular media’ are largely discussed there and are definitely worth reading about. 💖

SAGISAG will be up on ISSUU soon. Follow us on our social media accounts, so you won’t miss any update on our launch and other future activities. 😌

We are so excited to finally share SAGISAG with you, and cannot wait for you to read it! See you at the official launch 👋

“GAY RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS,” and we couldn’t agree more! 🙌

LG Ambassador Alexia proudly advocates for LGBTQ+ rights (so does everyone in Love, Girls), and encourages that all should too! Respect and support the 🏳️‍🌈 community, beyond the glamorous parades 🎊 during and online updates 🤳 regarding Pride Month. 📣

… Oh, and by the way! They also urge us to look out for the launch of something, this July 8th. They said we could learn more about the LGBTQ+ community (Filipina q***r women, especially) from this “something”. 😮

I think it’s 🏳️‍🌈 SAGISAG 🏳️‍🌈, the first-ever issue of an upcoming digital zine by Love, Girls. And I think you should watch the video to learn more about it. 😏

In the world of gloomy and enigmatic scenes, there is a hue of rays that comes within. Through the trodden way of nostalgia feels ablaze the questions of what if’s, no matter how faint the fascination of the harbor is the glimpse of hope still leads to wonder the queries— traversing the continued imagination of lingering sound. 🏳️‍🌈

Come forth and look closer at the unspoken words of Iris as she weaved the spectacle of “Strawberry” 🍓

Few days left before we unravel the exceptional stories. Watch out only on ISSUU this July 8th. 🗓✨

Will there be a new wave of Filipina q***r-centric content?

As the flicker of the camera comes, fame transpires. However beneath the iridescence each artist encounter there is one thing that they need to sacrifice—privacy. Thus, as they say, everything comes with a price, and even with the tiniest detail of life people will dredge it—even if it is too personal. Is it their fault or people are just too nosy for someone’s business?

Take a closer look at the perspective of Patch Aviado as she worded her thoughts through “Define Yourself: Sexuality of Actors who Portray Gay Characters” 💖

HAPPY PRIDE MONTH! 🌈

Loving with pride has always been a special act of love. We understand how important it is to be able to walk the streets with our heads held high; to talk freely about our lives; to hold the hand of our partners, and all the other things people seem to take for granted, as if they were the most natural things to do in this world.

Our pride is a testament of our victories in this long-winded fight, and a burning remembrance of our losses. Forcing the world to look and heed our call: "We are here, unafraid."

And we are here to stay.

Love,
Girls.

JOINT STATEMENT OF LGBTQIA+ ORGANIZATIONS ON THE BRUTAL KILLING OF KHALEED “KHAY” ABDULGAJIR

We, the LGBTQIA+ organizations, strongly condemn the brutal murder of Khaleed “Khay” Abdulgajir, a senior high school student of Integrated Laboratory School of Mindanao State University Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography (MSU-TCTO).

While we commemorate today the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), we express grief over the killing of Khay. We are committed to stand up against numerous human rights violations, including gender-based violence and killings.

We urge the authorities, especially the Philippine National Police and Local Government Unit of Tawi-Tawi, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao, and the Commission on Human Rights to ensure effective redress measures. In particular, we call for an immediate investigation to ascertain the truth behind the incident, to hold the perpetrators accountable, and to ensure that justice is achieved. We urge the government to provide needed assistance to the family and loved ones of Khay as they face this time of difficulty.

OUR VOTE, OUR POWER 🌹

Countless times we have been casted aside and brushed off. Countless cases of discrimination and harmful remarks from our very own leaders show the lack of empathy for the LGBTQIA+ community in current Philippine society, demonstrating the need for LGBTQIA+ advocates and officials in the government to accurately represent and fiercely promote the concerns in and of the community.

Now more than ever, it is vital to elect leaders that will advocate for our safety and our rights, both as citizens of this country and as members of the LGBTQIA+ community. As Halalan 2022 fastly approaches, we must remember that we, as voters, have the power to turn that dream into reality.
