Distraction
Unfiltered Episode 10
Perhaps you can connect to today's program. Working from home offers both advantages and disadvantages. Perhaps a distraction could come in between them? What are your thoughts?

There may be times when, even if you work alone in your home office with no windows, distractions are all around you.

Even if any outside noise or beautiful weather does not deter you, there is still the temptation to lie down, pause for a while (which could also take a while), browse on your phone by answering emails, updating status on your social media accounts, browsing the web, or even watching online videos such as reels or tiktok.

Have you ever been viewing web videos and completely forgotten about the time?

Sometimes we can't stop ourselves from doing something, especially if it's something that recharges our energy or has been our stress-coping method.

We don't even notice the time when we're having fun- the options are unlimited. That's why having a schedule that you hold to like glue is essential.

So, how about you? How do you deal with distractions?

Freelancing Gives You Control
Unfiltered Episode 07

In a nutshell, freelancing means you get to choose the kind of work you do. In this industry, you have free will in choosing the services that you like to be monetized.

You get to choose when you do the work. You get to take on the type of jobs that you want to do. And the more experience you have, the more selective you can be.

You won't have to wake up every day with the sun beaming down on you and birds whistling outside your windowsill.

Pero syempre, you'll still need to do some hard grafting, especially when taking on jobs that are not ideal.

Recommendations are somewhat essential in our industry so, whatever projects you take on, make sure you get recommendations from the people you work for.

And make sure that, you don't put all your eggs in one basket. Ongoing contracts can be a source of regular income, pero in today's volatile marketplace work is never guaranteed. Hindi natin alam what could happen tomorrow and sa mga susunod na bukas. It pays to have a number of different projects on the go, just in case one of them suddenly comes to an abrupt end.

Unfiltered Episode 08

You will not make any money in your first month- kaya hindi agad agad ang pera.

Yung mga sinasabi ng iba jan na 6 digits agad agad- there's just no way.

In addition to not making money in your first few weeks, it will take at least 6 months (baka nga mas matagal) before you can get a sustainable income. Yes, 6 MONTHS PA!!!!!! pero hindi guaranteed yung 6 digits- I'm telling you it'll take longer but of course I'm not saying this is impossible.

Unless you land one big client or project or you have a solid proposal already lined up, when you first become a freelancer you’re not going to be making much money in the first month.

That’s because in those first 30 days there is so much to learn. SOBRA. For example, you need to learn how to find clients, how to approach those clients, how to win those clients and then how to keep those clients. Lalo na kung first time mo pa lang gawin yung mga task, I'm telling you there's so much to learn.

Pero, if you’ve just started freelancing, remember, it’s a long-term game. Wag kang magpadala sa mga mabubulaklak na salita ng iba tungkol sa industriyang kinatatayuan natin. It’ll take a while to build up your income so plan your finances accordingly.

Pero as long as you manage your expectations around this, you’ll be OK.

Matuto ka ding mangiwan no!
Powwow Episode 03

Obviously, you need clients to make money as a freelancer. (well, hindi ko naman inaalis yung possibilities that there are other people who do this as their passion)

In anyways, Wrong clients can make your life a misery, yeah! like more than you could imagine.

Life is short, so know your worth, and know when to walk away when everything's isn't working- like relationship, the outcome and more. Also, get comfortable with saying no, in not a rude way ha. Make sure to sound professional pa rin.

Kasi naman, saying yes to everything will burn you out or even lead projects in the wrong way. and baka naman yung maging lowballed ka na like, your task aren't equal your rates. Pag may red flags , leave ka na agad! They won't get any better and there are plenty of goods ones out there.

Ikaw what's your worst experience with your client?

Better Treatment
Powwow Episode 02

Itrato mo ng tama up to the point na much better than the next freelancer that they're going to hire.

You know what success as a freelancer is partly about the work itself- mostly it's also about treating your clients right and raising yourself in their estimation more than the average freelancer.

I-maintain mo ang pagiging extra mo- most specially in terms of communication with them.

Be extra communicative lalo na when it's all about your process, even if it feels like over the top of it. You know, hindi naman natin maiiwasan na magkaroon ng informal clients or just those na beyond what other client acts. - pero despite being in that situation treat them exactly the same as any other client.

"Hey I'm in, Do you need anything?" or "Let me know if there's something you need help"

You know, those simple sentence can work wonders for your freelance career no. Lagi silang busy and maybe you just need to remind them that you exists and that might prompts them to request more work. - only if kaya mo or kaya mo pa. That'll be bad if you'd tell you can do it when you don't know how to and you don't have enough time for it. Like what I've said before, your client when treated right and satisfied on your work and output ng project niyo can be you're greatest marketer.

Minsan ba naisip mo din why people at some point; when they experience hardship in life got stuck or fall apart while yung iba kinaya, bumangon at lumaban?

Round Robin Episode 03

Even in times of a natural disaster like a typhoon or earthquake, in which the victims suffer the same loss, there are going to be some people who cannot handle the loss diba? Like, fall into despair and get hopeless stuck, or worse.

Pero some people naman will grieve over the loss, then pick themselves up and begin the process of moving on, rebuilding from what they have left, both emotionally and physically.

And I think the second one was a beautiful thing na dapat inaadapt natin in this industry.

Because there will come a time na makakaexperience ka ng hardship or even failure. Kaya just be open on this topic because nothing is guaranteed, like we'll never know what might happen. If mapunta ka in that situation, it is really okay to pause for a while but make sure that you know when and to stand up again. Don't get stuck and sucked up.

Life can be hard, very hard, indeed. However, it’s not the load that breaks you, it’s the way you carry it.

It is a choice not a chance.
Unfiltered Episode 07

While a substantial number of freelancers were pushed into their role because of conditions that made it possible to freelance, more than half of freelancers are freelancers dahil choice nila and hindi dahil they were compelled to start freelancing para sa personal or financial needs.

It's not even surprising right? Maybe you'll know someone who make this kind of decisions too. Baka mas prefer nila yung freelance environment rather than have a traditional office job or the preferred both, you know.

Some also choose this because they do want their presence to be felt or basta present sila in every family celebration without sacrificing job such as- absence or leave na minsan ang hirap pa ipaapprove diba?

Ikaw, what are your experience and why you're here in freelancing industry?

Pakay kay Klayent
Powwow Episode 01

Alam mo ba na hindi sa lahat ng pagkakataon, you'll get to have a formal contract?

Pero, it's a good idea to spell out what you plan to do, kung ano ung deliverables mo and when, and how you will work, including your working hours, invoicing, and contract terms, in plain and simple terms.

The specifics of what you need to layout can vary depending on the type of freelancing you do, pero in general, it is all about setting goals, clearing the goals both yours and your client’s.

Walang deviations from what the original agreement-upon work conditions are.

I suggest - you should make it a point to have no sudden changes- without drafting a new contract. By doing so, you can increase your credibility as a freelancer from a perspective a client's perspective that you are really serious with your business.

Always be wary of over-promising.

So make sure you will be able to keep whatever deadlines you have agreed to.

the bottom line of this is still clear your goals. Never over-promise and under-deliver.

Palagi. As in madalas, most of the time, basta palagi.

Unfiltered Episode 05

You know what, in this industry you'll got to work a lot of time. Isa sa mga nag reason na mag work most of the time is the thought that we are allowed to choose when to work or the one to accept or whom we could make a deal.

Pero those sugarcoated contents of other saying na "Once you've become a freelancer you'll have a lot of time" I'm telling you it's not- it could be possible in the long run but not know, when you're starting or trying to get your business established pa lang.

But one thing for sure, that you'll have a weekend off. Pero you are the one to set those boundaries.

Kasi naman, it will tempting to accept clients in the same time pero make sure kaya mo I-meet yung deliverables mo, baka mamaya tanggap ka ng tanggap ka ng cliet hindi na pala ayos ang quality ng work mo.

That would be tiring and you need rest too, syempre health is wealth.

Why I'm saying this? because there would be clients, who'll message you during weekends or ask you to finish a task that is not within your business hours. I suggest setting a proper expectations within the onboarding period and to include your business hours in your contract.

Questions comes first before conclusion.
Round Robin Episode 02

Have you ever seen doctors give out final solutions without first asking a lot of questions?

If they do, keep a safe distance from them.

Dig, expose, ask why, and make probes before making suggestions. Don't try to "fix" the problem before determining that it exists. Don't make any assumptions or jump to conclusions.

It's all a game. Whoever poses the most questions wins.

This applies to both B2B and B2C sales. But don't be annoying by asking the same questions over and over. Shift around, reframe the problem, and allow them time to think before responding.

Be sure to ask the right ones, this way, you'll get more valuable information from your clients.

A customer or user who appreciates and comprehends the problem (even if there is no remedy) is more valuable than one who simply adores the answer without comprehending the problem.

The best way to find out what you're looking for is to ask, right? We're all making decisions all the time, but let's be honest, it's hard to get the answers we want.

Ask more questions than you speak.

Lonely by nature.
Unfiltered Episode 06

Will you agree with me when I'll say that working alone is becoming increasingly popular?

In our personal life, long-term relationships are on the decline. It appears that we are moving away from our forefathers' "tribe" mentality. Or maybe we just do things differently.

Even while we seek seclusion in the actual world, we are immersed in our online networks. Social media, no matter how fleeting, makes us feel less alone. We still surround ourselves with other people, but in various ways.

Unfortunately, Freelancing is inherently lonely. It is not suitable for everyone for this and other reasons.

That's fine; you don't have to freelance simply because it's trendy right now. You might also attempt part-time freelancing. You might provide your services to an agency two days each week or You may work at an office part-time.

Or, instead of trying to fill the "empty," perhaps you should lean into it.

It's simple to occupy that time with meetings, gossip, happy hours, and mandatory webinars in any other employment. That may briefly divert your attention, but it is not the ideal way to fill the void. Instead of focusing on the bad feelings that arise - the anxiety that you're doing something wrong, that you don't have a long-term vision -

What you should do?

Pay attention to the happy ones.

If you're proud of the work you made on a particular project, tell everyone you know about it. If you want to read a book, do so and catch up on work later in the evening.

Freelancing gives you complete control, which can be both frightening and empowering.

Low creative juices? No energy at all? Ideas left your mind?
"Make it simple, but significant." ~ Don Draper

Round Robin Episode 01

This quotation served as the inspiration for today's episode. We had to work on our own most of the time no ones got our back except us, this might save you a lot of time and effort.

"Make it simple, but significant" got me thinking about how we often complicate things in general. I know I do, to the point that I feel complicated at times.

However, simplicity is clean. Behind the simplicity is genius. And, when it comes down to it, many of the most important things in life are quite basic.

To simplify means to get back to basic, to start with one simple idea, to go over the same procedures or process and the find significance in that.

We can't guarantee that we'll have the creative juices, or even the energy to start working for the day.

Significant is memorable, it can be priceless and timeless. It is a moment in time.

So that's where the significance begins. Focus on the simplicity of an idea, then another, then a question, then this moment, then, then, then...

Just as letting go of a result frequently yields the best outcome, focusing on simplicity allows the significance of a moment or concept to emerge.

As long as you'll convey the message you'd want to be heard, it okay to be simple. No, just keep it simple, it'll will save you time and effort for everything.

Just an idea... simply.

Unfiltered Episode 05

Alam mo ba when you're a freelancer, there's no-one to spur you on? Madalas ikaw lang. Keeping yourself motivated can be a real challenge. But, If the work you're doing is interesting and enjoyable, then that can be enough to keep you on task. Especially if you're being paid a fair amount for your efforts. Pero kung hindi, then that could be a real problem because if in the beginning, it's already hard for you then enduring it can really affect you in a long run.

And the ability to work and resolve issues by yourself is one of the most important skill of every freelancers to be able to survive in this industry.

But if you already have this skill! Congrats! You are definitely in the game.

Quick story, when I was still in my 9-5 corporate job. I never value my time the way I'm valuing it right now.

All I ever looked forward to was the sweet sound of my time clock, on my desktop that screams it's End of Shift already!!, or End of sh*t in my case LOL.

But that totally changes when I join the Industry.

I have learned how to value everyone's time. Legendary right?? LOL

Nuff said, here's a quick tip for you. If you want also want to show it to other people that you highly value your time, especially when they're running late to your agreed time/ meeting..here's another way you can show it politely.

You may send them an email that you waited for them for 5 minutes, however it seems now is not the best time to meet. Then offer them a time to reschedule the next meeting.

The promise of absolute freedom and the ability to work wherever and whenever you choose is so enticing that many people jump in without giving it much thought.

The truth is that freelancing is difficult. Contrary to popular belief, signing up on Upwork and sending hundreds of applications every day would not suffice.

I believe that what makes freelancing difficult for some people is a two-pronged problem:

• Some folks aren't wired to work for themselves.

• Some folks aren't totally prepared to work as freelancers.

Have you seen a lot of sugar coated post stating that "EARN 6 DIGITS INCOME TODAY" of course this is not impossible in our industry, but it does not happen overnight. lol

So, do not easily believe like that, It will cost you a lot sleepless nights, overwhelming situations, there will also come a situation that we'll push you to the limit, but do not give up. I told you what's only impossible was earning 6 digits income in an instant, but it is not impossible along your journey.

Yes, It has advantages, but it also has disadvantages. Some people can manage these situations successfully, while others cannot. How difficult freelancing is for you may be determined by your personality, working style, and ability to endure unpredictability.

Want to be your own boss?
Unfiltered: Episode 02

Working from home is great. You get to do what you want and not follow anyone else’s rules. But before you can reap these benefits, you need to figure out how to make money doing stuff that is actually fun and rewarding for you on your own time.

Being your own boss have 2 sides.

You have the advantage of being your own boss.

You are free to work (or not work) as you see fit. You can even work from home or on a beach or even in your bed- if you choose. You can even wear pajamas to work and no one will judge you. Since you're your own employer, no one can call you on anything. But that's only the surface level.

As a freelancer, you get to choose the tasks you want to work on. You can also show any disrespectful consumer the door. Of course, you have the freedom to create projects and implement changes the way you desire, not the way senior management decides.

Exciting right?

The disadvantage is that you are your own boss.

Being your own boss can be difficult. Whereas your previous supervisor was responsible for depositing funds into your bank account at the end of each month, you are now completely accountable for this task. You may slack off all you want now that you don't have a boss, but it will be your bottom line that suffers as a result.

You may not have a boss, but you do have something much more demanding: your clients.

Stop romanticizing that being your own boss can only do good for you, well not as a start-up or amateur, it'll takes time.

-

The only thing that’s certain in life is that it changes all the time. You can either adapt or you suffer, and if you want to be your own boss then you have to take accountability for your actions.

Warning: This is not for a faint heart: Unfiltered Episode 01

The desire to be your own boss is one that almost everyone has at some point in their career. For some inexplicable reason, we assume we can do away with terms like "boss," "9 to 5," and "team meetings" and simply sit down, put our heads down, and focus on what we enjoy. That would solve all of our issues.

In certain circumstances, this idea becomes more than a pipe dream; some people prosper as freelancers. Most of the time, it either remains a dream or rapidly turns into a nightmare. And, in the few success stories when it becomes a profession, the reality is totally different from what we expected.

I've seen a lot of comment on different social media platforms that some people are impulsively leaving their 9 to 5 jobs to work as a freelancers.

Yes you can, but please make a plan.

Here's the thing, and please don't take this the wrong way, but I see a lot of folks who believe they can make it on their own after completing a Bootcamp, graduating from college, or changing careers. I know that sounds harsh, but you might be able to because you come from a different background and have worked on all the skills required to succeed as a freelancer while doing something else.

You are the exception, not the rule.

Most aspiring freelancers are struggling to find their first job, or they are working their first or second employment and are dissatisfied with it.

As a result, they believe, "Well, I can accomplish this on my own and not have to deal with the s**t off my boss every day."

Let me ask again: have you considered everything that would be required of you?

Get ready to jump into the world of freelancing. It’s not as scary as it seems!

It’s a pretty well known fact that being a freelancer is hard. It’s a skill, like learning to play chess or paint. The more you practice it and polish your techniques, the better you get at it. If you’re considering going freelance and it seems a little scary, know that it’s normal. Rather than waiting for the right (or let’s be honest, perfect) time for making the leap, focus on doing your homework.

Give me a heart if you'll relate with this "Freelancing is tough, but it feels so good when you get used to it."

FYI: Instagram and Facebook algorithm are changing, so if your growth strategy are still based on Social Media Guru and Influencers that suggests ff to grow your account organically:

- follow/unfollow strategy.
- tagging other on stories.
- commenting on other users content multiple times a day.

Your account might get flagged and disabled without a warning. I know this sounds crazy since it’s social media and users are supposed to make engagements.

I have seen so many influencers account has been taken down recently and are now switching to LinkedIn instead. I know because this also happened to my account.

I’ am now suggesting to all of my clients to focus creating contents on their website and use Socmed to drive traffic to it instead.
