In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, I join our Muslim communities in observing Eid'l Adha or the Feast of the Sacrifice.

This day reminds us that, with deep faith and loyalty to our virtues, we can take risks for hefty costs, even if it means losing those whom we love and letting go of many things that matter to us. As we commemorate how Ibrahim offered his son in obedience of Allah, let us likewise believe that in entrusting ourselves and surrendering our worries to the Supreme Authority, all our hearts’ desires for the greater good will be heard and granted.

The solemn narrative that punctuates this occasion tells us that, at the onset of this administration, we must prepare ourselves to go beyond our comfort zones as we walk the path we have willingly chosen. The journey ahead of us will not be easy, but if we fight for what is right and predicate our every action on our love for our fellowmen and women, our people will surely benefit from the results of our individual choices.

Let us therefore offer ourselves for the sake of others and take to heart the lessons we learn so that we may be rewarded spiritually and become worthy recipients of Allah’s manifold blessings and protection. As we join hands towards achieving our shared goals, I hope that we will transcend our differences, break the chains of divisiveness, and emerge strong and united as one nation.

FIFA extends option for foreign players to leave Russia, Ukraine

FIFA has extended a window allowing foreign coaches and players to suspend deals with their clubs in Russia and Ukraine through June 30, 2023.

In a statement, the worldwide governing body of football said on Tuesday that the decision followed regulations introduced in March with the aim of "effectively assisting players, clubs and coaches impacted by the war in Ukraine."

The provisions give foreign players and coaches the right to "suspend their employment contracts with their clubs until 30 June 2023," should their Ukrainian or Russian sides not reach a "mutual agreement" with them by June 30, 2022, said the statement.

MMDA LAUNCHES FREE SOLAR CHARGING STATION FOR E-BIKES, E-SCOOTERS

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority today launched a free solar charging station for electronic bikes and electronic scooters to encourage use of alternative modes of transportation and promote green and renewable energy.

The solar charging station, located at the new MMDA head office building in Barangay Ugong, Pasig City, will be opened to the public on Monday, June 27, from 6am to 7pm.

According to MMDA Chairman Attorney Romando Artes, the project would help ease the burden of the public amid high cost of petroleum products by providing them free service that they can avail whenever they need to charge their e-vehicles.

“Putting up free charging stations for electronic vehicles such as e-bikes and e-scooters would encourage the public to use alternative mode of transportation and at the same time help them save expenses from high fuel costs,” Artes said.

Three solar panels with built-in inverter will be the main power source of the station with a total of six 220V charging outlets.

Those who wish to charge their e-vehicles must bring their own charging cords and cables.

The charging station uses high technology, where in case solar power harvested will be insufficient to power the e-bikes being charged, the station will tap into the main power grid of the building to compensate for the shortage in power. Likewise, all excess electricity being harnessed by the solar panels will be distributed back to the building.

Artes also said that he is planning to build a similar charging station at the MMDA headquarters in Orense, Makati to accommodate those who are traversing EDSA.

Meanwhile, Artes appealed to e-bikers and e-scooter drivers to adhere to the Land Transportation Office's Administrative Order No. 2021-039 or the Consolidated Guidelines in the Classification, Registration, and Operation of All Types of Electric Motor Vehicles for their own safety.
