(this) 이 – is used when the noun is close to the speaker
(that) 그 – is used when the noun is close to the listener.

(Noun이/가)

1- it is a particle attached to a noun to designate the subject of the sentence.

Ex.
The student is reading a book
학생이 책을 읽습니다.

2- it is also functions to particularly emphasize the preceding subject.

Ex.
A. Who is going to buy fruit?
누가 과일을 살 거예요?
B. Ana will buy fruit.
아나 씨가 과일을 살 거예요.

3- it is used to express new information in a sentence, that is the introduction of a new topic.

Ex.
Yesterday I watched a movie. The movie was really interesting.
어제는 영화를 봤어요. 영화는 정말 재미있었어요.

NOTE:
When 저, 나, 너, 누구 when used as subject of the sentence, it becomes 제가, 내가, 네가 and 누가.

Verb-to-Noun (2 ways) #2

The other way to modify a noun is by attaching (는) to the stem of a present tense verb, (으)ㄴfor past tense verbs, and (으)ㄹ for future tense verbs. It is equivalent in English as "that" or "who".When you attached this, allows the verb to function as noun modifier.

Example words
1. 가다 (to Go)
Present: 가는
Past: 간
Future: 갈

2. 하다 (to do)
Present: 하는
Past: 한
Future: 할

3. 읽다 ( to read)
Present: 읽는
Past: 읽은
Future: 읽을

4. 만들다 (to make)
Present: 만드는
Past: 만든
Future: 만들

NOTE:
1. For ㄹ ending verbs, simply drop ㄹ.

2. For ㅂ irregular verbs, apply the rule in conjugating ㅂ irregular that is;
- change ㅂ to 우 in the next syllable.

Sample sentences:
1. 고양에 내려가는 사람이 많아요.
A lot of people (who are) going to home town.

2. 지금 듣는 노래가 뭐예요?
What is the song (that you are) listening now?

3. 어제 간 식당이 어땠어요?
How was the restaurant (that) you went yesterday?

4. 오늘 저녁에 먹을 한국 음식이 뭐예요?
What's the Korean food (that) we will have to eat for tonight?

1. Attach ㄴif the stem ends in a VOWEL
2. Attach 은 if the noun ends in a CONSONANT.

Sample Words
싸다 - 싼 (cheap)
비싸다 - 비싼 (expensive)
짜다 - 짠 (salty)
달다 - 달은 (sweet)
쓰다 - 쓴 (bitter)
크다 - 큰 (big)
작다 - 작은 (small)
좋다 - 좋은 (good)
나쁘다 - 나쁜 (bad)

For ㅂ irregular ending change ㅂ to 우 in the next syllable then add ㄴ

덥다 - 더운 (hot) weather
춥다 - 추운 (cold) weather
뜨겁다 - 뜨거운 (hot) food
차갑다 - 차가운 (cold) food

Adjective -to- Noun #1

By simply adding ㅁ/음 at the end of the Adjective stem it becomes a noun.

1. Add ㅁ at the end of the stem that ends in a vowel.
2. Add 음 at the end of the stem that ends in a consonant.

조용하다 - 조용함 (quiet - quietness)
깨끗하다 - 깨끗함 (clean - cleanliness)
시원하다 - 시원함 (cool - coolness)
따뜻하다 - 따뜻함 ( warm - warmth)
기쁘다 - 기쁨 (please - pleasure)
슬프다 - 슬픔 (sad - sadness)
맑다 - 맑음 (clear - clearness)

Note:
For ㅂ irregular stem end, change ㅂ to 우 then attach ㅁ.

Ex. 쉽다 - >쉽 - > 쉬우 -> 쉬움 (easy - easiness)

Sample sentence:
1. 깨끗함을 유지하세요.
Maintain the cleanliness.
2. 그녀는 외로움을 견뎌냈어요.
She endured the loneliness.

Let us recall some part of speech (group of words) in a sentence:

1.) NOUN - is a word used to name a person, place, thing or quality/idea.
Ex. Jorge, man, home, pencil, love, honesty, etc.

2.) ADJECTIVE - is a word that modifies the meaning of a noun.
Ex. quiet, noisy, beautiful, pretty, grateful, etc.

3.) VERB - is a word that expresses action or state of being.
ex. eat, sleep, go, come, work, study, cook, etc.

4.) ADVERB - is a word that modifies or limits the meaning of a verb, an Adjective or another adverb.
Ex. really, very, too, gracefully, slowly, peacefully, quickly, etc.

Note: Identify your Korean words to which group of words it is belong. 👍

Saying "is/am/are NOT [noun] " with
아닙니다 and 아니에요

Format:
Noun이/가 아닙니다/ 아니에요.

NOTE:
1. Observe the noun if it ends in either vowel or consonant. Then attach the appropriate subject particle/marker.

2. Unlike the positive form 이다 which is attach to a noun, do not attach 아니다 to a noun. Put space after the subject marker 이/가.

Example Sentences
1. 사과는 야재가 아닙니다.
Apples are not vegetables.

2. 그것은 제 얼굴이 아닙니다.
That is not my face.

3. 고양이는 개가 아니에요.
A cat is not a dog.

4. 한국 사람이 아니에요.
I am not a Korean.

5. 그 사람은 이민호 씨가 아닙니다.
That person is not Lee Min Ho.
