New CHST PTA Board elected

Parents and teachers during their annual general assembly chose their class and level representatives, and eventually elected the new set of the College of the Holy Spirit of Tarlac (CHST) Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Board of Officers for School Year 2024-2025 on August 17, 2024.

Majority of the attendees voted Mrs. Daisylyn Sigua, a parent from the pre-school department as the new CHST PTA President.

Sigua will serve and work hand in hand with the school together with her co-officers, Mrs. Cris Macasaquit (Vice-President), Mrs. Sheila Liwanag (Secretary), Mr. Rodolfo Mallari (CHST Faculty/Student Activity Program Coordinator, Assistant Secretary), Mrs. Rowena Calderon (Treasurer), Mr. Kenneth Sarmiento (Asst. Treasurer), Mrs. Abby Alcos (Auditor), Mrs. Michelle Payabyab (PRO), Mrs. Berna Aisha Cortez and Laarni Hipolito (Socio-Cultural Coordinators), Mr. Wilbert Marquez and Mr. Gilbert Millado (Sports Coordinators).

Grade 3 CHSTians interact with AES

On St. Tarcisius Feast Day, CHST third graders together with their parents and teachers shared their time, talents and blessings with their outreach friends from Apalang Elementary School (AES), August 16, 2024.

After a prayer service in honor of their patron saint, the learners danced and sang on stage, then ate and played together as part of their celebration.

Parents, on the other hand, assisted in serving the children's favorite food like spaghetti, French fries, pizza, hotdogs, ice cream, cotton candy and a lot more.

Prizes, souvenirs, and school supplies were also given away which brought sweet smiles and laughter to all who attended the occasion.

Let us all welcome and congratulate our first set of English Ambassadors and Ambassadress for the school year 2024-2025!

The English Department, in its utmost aim of providing and developing learners who are communicatively competent by being proficient and efficient speakers in the English language launches the English Ambassadorship.

This seven year-old program awards students who have an exemplary and outstanding performance in their respective English Courses, specifically, in oral communications.

The screening and deliberation for this year’s set of Ambassadors were supervised by the Faculty members of the English Department, spearheaded by Mrs. Grace T. Mallari, the Subject Area Supervisor in English.

Through this program, the English Department hopes to provide and pave way for more opportunities for the CHSTian learners for them to be competitive in various fields in the Global scenes.

𝐌𝐠𝐚 𝐚𝐤𝐭𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐝 𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐧𝐖, 𝐧𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐡𝐮𝐤𝐚𝐧 𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐇𝐒𝐓𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬

Masiglang sinalihan ng CHSTians ang iba't ibang programang inihanda ng departamento ng Filipino at Araling Panlipunan para sa selebrasyong Buwan ng Wika 2024.

Magkasabay na idinaos ang paligsahan sa Pagbuo ng Collage ng mga estudyanteng nasa ikapitong baitang sa kantina at ang paligsahan sa Pagsulat ng Sanaysay para sa ikawalo hanggang ika-12 baitang sa silid-aklatan ng paaralan noong ikasiyam ng Agosto nang hapon.

Tagisan naman sa pagkamalikhain ang sinalihan ng mga mag-aaral sa elementarya para sa patimpalak na Pagguhit at Pagkulay ng unang baitang, Pagguhit ng ikalawa at ikatlong baitang, Paggawa ng Slogan ng ikaapat at ikalimang baitang, at Pagbuo ng Tula ng ikaanim na baitang sa silid-aklatan ng paaralan, Agosto 15 ng hapon.

Kinulayan din ang selebrasyon sa pamamagitan ng iba't ibang patimpalak tulad ng Pagbakat at Pagkulay ng mga mag-aaral sa Nursery, Pagkulay ng Larawan ng mga Pre-Kinder, at Pagguhit at Pagkulay ng mga Kinder noong Agosto 16 sa St. Arnold Janssen Bldg.

Ibibida pang muli ang talento ng mga CHSTians sa iba't ibang paligsahang nakalaan sa mga sumusunod na araw.

Inaasahan din ang buong kooperasyon ng mga estudyante sa mga programang tulad ng Hapagkainan, Larong-lahi, at Pagsusuot ng Kasuotang Pilipino.

Nagsagawa ng taunang pagpupulong ang Parents and Teachers Association (PTA), sa pangunguna ng dating pangulo na si Mrs. Mindy Dela Cruz. Ang programa ay ukol sa presentasyon ng mga inilunsad na proyekto ng nakaraang asosasyon na ginanap sa CHST Multi-Purpose Hall ika-17 ng Agosto.

Kabilang din sa adyenda ang pagtatapos ng termino ng mga PTA Officers para sa taong 2023-2024. Kasama rin sa diskusyon ang Treasury Report na nakapokus sa mga salaping inilaan at ginamit sa iba’t ibang aktibidad at programa.

Nagkaroon din ng pagpupulong para sa eleksyon ng bagong Class Representative, Level Representative, at ang pagbuo ng bagong miyembro ng Board of Directors na mamumuno sa mga isasagawang plano upang maisulong ang masagana at maayos na bagong akademikong taon sa paaralan.

Hagulgol ng mga p**i ang bumabalot sa bawat sulok ng bansa. Sa likod ng mga busal na sumisigaw para sa kalayaan ay naitala ng National Union of Journalists in the Philippines (NUJP) ang 159 kaso ng red-tagging laban sa mga mamamahayag mula taong 2016-2024.

Isinaad ng Human Rights Watch sa kanilang World Report 2024 na malubhang karahasan ang naidudulot ng “red-tagging” sa mga aktibista at kritiko. Isa itong uri ng harassment na maaaring magresulta sa karahasan– kabaliktaran sa pangako ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr na paiigtingin ang karapatang pantao.

Tinatakan ng abstraktong pulang likido ang noo ng mga mamamayang biktima ng red-tagging. Sa kanilang pagmumungkahi at pagkaliwa sa administrasyon ay pilit silang pinapatahimik. Kaya naman, ayon kay Bryony Lau, deputy Asia director ng Human Rights Watch, nararapat nang itigil ang pinsalang ito.

Isang kaso nito ay naganap sa propesyonal na mamamahayag na si Atom Araullo ng siya at ang kaniyang pamilya ay targetin ni Lorraine Badoy, dating tagapagsalita ng National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC). Iilan lamang sa kanilang pinagdaanan ay ang pambibintang, pananakot, at panganib sa kaligtasan.

Kung ang ganitong karahasan ay naranasan ng bantog na mamamahayag, paano pa ang 90 kaso o 56.6% ng mga mamamahayag na nagmumungkahi para sa mga nasa laylayan ng lipunan. Mula naman sa “mainstream media” ang 69 kaso o 43.4% na nakararanas nito. Ngunit, sa kabuuan ay anim o 3.7% lamang ng mga kaso ang may aksiyon ng kanilang organisasyon upang matigil ang red-tagging laban sa kanila.

Deka-dekada nang ginagawa ng mga opisyal ang pagbusal sa mga Pilipinong tumitindig. Mula sa mga propesyonal hanggang sa mga mag-aaral na pinaniniwalaang miyembro ng New People’s Army (NPA) ay patuloy na dumadaloy ang pulang dugo mula sa pisikal na pag-atake– walang kongkretong pagwawakas sa harassment na ito.

Sa kabilang banda, nangako ang kasalukuyang administrasyon na muling bibigyang-diin ang karapatang pantao. Sila ay makikipag-ugnayan sa United Nations (UN) at iba pang internasyonal na organisasyon. Bilang resulta, pinalaya si Maria Ressa at ang kaniyang news outlet na Rappler.

Ito man ay aksyon na nagpapakita ng pagbabago, nananatili pa ring laganap ang mga suliranin bunga ng pagkukulang ng gobyerno. Kaakibat nito ay ang iba pang problema tulad ng ekonomiya, paghihirap, at edukasyon.

Tunay na nagmamantsa ang dugo ng mga mamamahayag sa kanilang mga puting saplot. Ang wikang sinasabing mapagpalaya ay ang wikang pinatatahimik sa oras na bumoses para sa masa. Ngayong buwan ng Agosto ay ipinagdiriwang ang Buwan ng Wika, maging makatao, makabansa, at maka-Pilipino. Ang wika ay ang natatanging sandatang hindi maipagkakait sa mamamayan.

Filipino: Wikang Mapagpalaya ang tema ngayong taon. Kaya naman, huwag magpasakdal at isigaw ang wika. Ang kalayaan sa ekspresyon at boses ng sambayanan ay pakawalan mula sa ilalim ng tinaklubang tinig.

Taekwondo player Carissa Ava Cachero was promoted to black belt rank on July 21 after completing all belt promotions and successfully competing in various regional and national tournaments.

Cachero’s performances in her national tournaments allowed her to take home 15 gold medals through her victories in Bataan, Nueva Ecija, Zambales, Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac and Subic.

The 10-year-old athlete also reigned victorious in an international tournament after winning two gold medals for Poomsae and Speedkicking in the 2022 Scotland Invitationals.

Cachero shared that finally earning the black belt she had always dreamed of felt surreal and her victories that led her to this point remained of utmost importance to her.

“The Black Belt was always a goal I had in mind, but the urgent fights were what was in front of me.There's an unbelievable feeling to finally have the Black Belt. Winning fights and tournaments was always sweet, and something I will never take for granted. But having a black belt is really special,” Cachero said.

The fifth grader added three more medals to her collection in just the past two months after winning bronze in the 2024 Smart/MVP Sports Foundation Central Luzon Poomsae Championships last June 1, a gold medal in the 2024 Nueva Ecija Taekwondo Championships last June 16, and another gold medal in the 2024 Smart MVP Pampanga Taekwondo Championships last July 6.

Cachero added that despite her achievements in Taekwondo, her life outside the sport still remains her priority, and that taekwondo drills come second to her academics

Naging matunog muli ang Pilipinas sa 2024 Paris Olympics matapos masungkit nina Nesthy Petecio ng women's boxing 57kg at Aira Villegas ng 50kg ang dalawang bronze medal nitong ika-7 ng Agosto.

Nagtapos si Petecio sa tansong medalya nang mapatumba siya ni Julia Szeremeta ng Poland sa semifinals sa isang 4-1 split decision.

Bigo man niyang nakuha ang gintong medalya, karagdagan naman ito sa kaniyang matagumpay na karera bilang kauna-unahang boksingerong Pilipino na nakapag-uwi ng medalyang pilak sa Olympics noong 2021.

Samantala, nauwi naman ni Villegas ang tanso nang matalo ito kay Buse Naz Cakiroglu ng Turkey sa semis sa pamamagitan ng isang pinagkaisahang desisyon.

Sa kasalukuyan, ang Pilipinas ay nakapagtala na ng kabuuang apat na medalya sa 2024 Olympics, kung saan kabilang dito ang dalawang gintong nakuha ng Pilipinong dyimnasta na si Carlos Yulo.

The most awaited time has made it to us CHSTians! As The Shield and Ang Kampilan publication officially welcomes you to the second round of applications for both publications of the College of the Holy Spirit of Tarlac (CHST); all official applicants are invited to attend the skills and writing examination event to be held on August 8 for the Junior High School department and August 9 for the Senior High School department, 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the canteen area of the Holy Trinity Building to be hosted by the publication.

All qualified to attend the examination are given a list of what to bring, including writing materials for writers and technical equipment for broadcast aspirants.

If you believe that your skills best fit the available posts in the publications, then pen up and fear down, as the publication wishes you good luck with your aspiration to be part of The Shield and Ang Kampilan.

After seizing his first gold medal in yesterday’s Floor Exercise Finals, Carlos Edriel “Caloy” Yulo proved to be an unstoppable force in today’s Vault Finals, taking home his second gold medal for the Paris Olympics.

Caloy averaged a 15.166 for his performance after scoring a 15.433 for his first vault and a 14.800 for his second vault, edging out his competitors for the coveted title.

Rounding out the podium finishers for Vault are Armenia’s Artur Davtyan, who finished second with a final score of 14.966, and Great Britain’s Harry Hepworth, who finished third with a score of 14.949.

Yulo’s performance in this year’s Olympics serves as the gymnast's redemption after barely missing out on a podium finish for the Vault Finals three years ago in Tokyo, where he placed fourth overall with a final score of 14.716, placing just behind now silver medalist, Artur Davtyan.
