The Arctic Henge in Raufarhöfn, Iceland
Located in one of Iceland’s most remote northern villages, the Arctic Henge is a colossal piece of stone construction that evokes neolithic monuments throughout the world.
Started in 1996, the Arctic Henge project is a monument not only to the country’s Nordic roots, but also to some of the neo-pagan beliefs that have arisen in certain areas. The piece was inspired directly from the Eddic poem Völuspá (Prophecy of the Seeress), taking from it the concept of 72 dwarves who represent the seasons in the world of the poem, among other symbolic queues. In the Arctic Henge, 72 small blocks, each inscribed with a specific dwarven name will eventually circle four larger stone monuments, which in turn will surround a central balanced column of massive basalt blocks. Each aspect of the deliberate layout corresponds to some aspect of ancient Norse belief and when each piece of the monument is installed, visitors will be able to “capture the midnight sun” by viewing it through the various formations at different vantage points depending on the season.
The monument is still a work in progress. When it is complete, the Arctic Henge could easily become the premier site for Paganism in the entire world, and millennia from now it might seem as mysterious as Stonehenge seems to us today.

Lest We Forget: May 29, 1851, Sojourner Truth delivered her famous speech, "Ain't I a Woman?", at the Women's Convention in Akron, Ohio...

In 1851, Truth joined George Thompson, an abolitionist and speaker, on a lecture tour through central and western New York State. In May, she attended the Ohio Women's Rights Convention in Akron, Ohio where she delivered her famous extemporaneous speech on women's rights, later known as "Ain't I a Woman". The convention was organized by Hannah Tracy and Frances Dana Barker Gage, who both were present when Truth spoke. Different versions of Truth's words have been recorded, with the first one published a month later by Marius Robinson, a newspaper owner and editor who was in the audience. Robinson's recounting of the speech included no instance of the question "Ain't I a Woman?" Twelve years later in May 1863, Gage published another, very different, version. In it, Truth's speech pattern had characteristics of Southern slaves, and the speech included sentences and phrases that Robinson didn't report. Gage's version of the speech became the historic standard, and is known as "Ain't I a Woman?" because that question was repeated four times. Truth's own speech pattern was not Southern in nature, as she was born and raised in New York, and spoke only Dutch until she was nine years old.

In contrast to Robinson's report, Gage's 1863 version included Truth saying her 13 children were sold away from her into slavery. Truth is widely believed to have had five children, with one sold away, and was never known to boast more children. Gage's 1863 recollection of the convention conflicts with her own report directly after the convention: Gage wrote in 1851 that Akron in general and the press in particular were largely friendly to the woman's rights convention, but in 1863 she wrote that the convention leaders were fearful of the "mobbish" opponents. Other eyewitness reports of Truth's speech told a calm story, one where all faces were "beaming with joyous gladness" at the session where Truth spoke; that not "one discordant note" interrupted the harmony of the proceedings. In contemporary reports, Truth was warmly received by the convention-goers, the majority of whom were long-standing abolitionists, friendly to progressive ideas of race and civil rights. In Gage's 1863 version, Truth was met with hisses, with voices calling to prevent her from speaking.

That man over there says that women need to be helped into carriages, and lifted over ditches, and to have the best place everywhere. Nobody ever helps me into carriages, or over mud-puddles, or gives me any best place! And ain't I a woman? Look at me! Look at my arm! I have ploughed and planted, and gathered into barns, and no man could head me! And ain't I a woman? I could work as much and eat as much as a man - when I could get it - and bear the lash as well! And ain't I a woman? I have borne thirteen children, and seen most all sold off to slavery, and when I cried out with my mother's grief, none but Jesus heard me! And ain't I a woman?

Then they talk about this thing in the head; what's this they call it? [member of audience whispers, "intellect"] That's it, honey. What's that got to do with women's rights or Negroes' rights? If my cup won't hold but a pint, and yours holds a quart, wouldn't you be mean not to let me have my little half measure full?

Then that little man in black there, he says women can't have as much rights as men, 'cause Christ wasn't a woman! Where did your Christ come from? Where did your Christ come from? From God and a woman! Man had nothing to do with Him.

If the first woman God ever made was strong enough to turn the world upside down all alone, these women together ought to be able to turn it back , and get it right side up again! And now they is asking to do it, the men better let them.

Irish seaman and Antarctic explorer Thomas Crean photographed in 1915 aboard the Endurance in Antarctica during the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition of 1914–1917 led by Ernest Shackleton.
The Endurance was trapped in ice for 492 days and sank, so the 28-man crew had to use lifeboats to reach the uninhabited Elephant Island. Crean was one of 6 members of the crew to make the 800 miles (1300 km) journey from Elephant Island to South Georgia in the small-boat James Caird to seek rescue for the rest of the crew. Once they reached South Georgia after 17 days at sea, 3 of the men, including Tom Crean, trekked across the island to a whaling station on the north side of South Georgia. There they were able to organize rescue efforts for the 3 men left on the south of the island and the remaining crew on Elephant Island. The entire crew of the Endurance returned home without loss of life.

PLEASE TAKE TIME TO READ!

1. Ano ang annulment?

Answer. Kapag "annuled" na ang isang couple, idinedeklara na walang bisa o "void" ang kasal nila from the start. In other words, walang totoong kasal na naganap sa kanila. Kaya, pwede silang mag-asawa ulit kasi hindi naman talaga sila totoong kasal simula't sapul. Walang marriage na binubuwag sa annulment kasi walang totoong marriage na naganap.

PS. Ang "annulment" na pinag-uusapan ko rito ay CHURCH ANNULMENT at hindi CIVIL ANNULMENT.

2. Ano ang legal separation?

Answer. Sa legal separation magkahiwalay ang couple pero hindi pwedeng mag-asawa ulit dahil "valid" ang marriage nila. Makoconsider na "adultery" kapag nakapagrelasyon sa iba. Isang MALAKING KASALANAN ang adultery na pwedeng magdala sa atin sa impyerno.

3. Ano ang divorce?

Answer. Sa divorce magkahiwalay ang couple at pwedeng magpakasal ulit kahit na "valid" ang marriage nila.

Sabi ng Panginoong Hesus, "Ang pinagsama ng Diyos ay huwag paghiwalayin ng tao (MARK 10:9)."

Sa divorce, ginagawa na lang "temporary contract" ang marriage imbes na "lifetime commitment" ito. Nagiging CHEAP ang value ng marriage dahil mas dadami pa ang mga couple na magpapakasal kahit hindi pa handa.

"Magpakasal na tayo. Total, pwede naman tayong magdivorce anytime kung gugustohin natin," malamang ito ang magiging usual reason sa pagpapakasal kung magiging legal ang divorce.

4. Papano yung mga pamilyang sirang-sira na?

Answer. Sa mga pamilyang sirang-sira na, meron namang annulment at legal separation. So, no need na ang divorce.

Ipakulong nyo ang abusive partner. May VAWC law po tayo.

5. Diba pareho lang namang naghihiwalay ang couple sa annulment, legal separation, at divorce?

Answer. Oo. Parehong naghihiwalay pero MAGKAIBA pa rin ang case at nature.

Sa annulment hindi nasisira ang SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE kasi wala namang marriage na nangyari in the first place.

Sa legal separation naman, kahit na magkahiwalay ang mag-asawa, eh hindi naman pwedeng mag-asawa ulit kasi ADULTERY yun. Malaking kasalanan yun. Tsaka may chance pang magbalikan ang couple kung sakali.

Sa divorce, sinisira nito ang SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE kasi kahit na valid ang kasal, ihinihiwalay pa rin ang couple at binibigyan sila ng karapatan na mag-asawa ulit which is ADULTERY. Divorce promotes adultery. Divorce promotes sin. Divorce promotes hell.

In addition, mas lumalabo ang chance na ma save pa ang marriage kasi binigbiyan ng right na mag-asawa ulit sa iba.

6. Mahal at matagal ang proseso ng annulment. Kaya, kailangan ilegalize ang divorce.

Answer. Yun pala e. Ang process pala ang problema. So, yun dapat ang i-fix. Dapat gumawa ng hakbang ang kongreso, together with the Church, para mas mapadali at maging affordable ang annulment process. So, di na kailangan pang ipush ang divorce. Kailangan lang ayusin ang annulment process sa bansa.

7. Hayaan na lang natin ang mga couple kung ano ang gusto nilang option. Wala kayong karapatan na manghimasok sa buhay nila. Tsaka, hindi naman lahat Katoliko. Hindi lahat naniniwala sa Bibliya.

Answer: Hindi natin pwedeng bigyan ng MALING OPTION ang tao. Maling option po ang divorce. Kagaya lang yan sa abortion at su***de.

"Sanctity of Marriage" na po ang nakasalalay dito. Kaya dapat kaming mag-ingay against divorce. Kapag binibigyan natin ng karapatan ang tao na sirain ang "sanctity of marriage", binibigyan na rin natin siya ng karapatan na sirain ang pamilya. Kapag sira ang pamilya, sira rin ang lipunan.

1. Build a home earlier. Be it rural home or urban home. Building a house at 50 is not an achievement. Don't get used to government houses. This comfort is so dangerous. Let all your family have good time in your house.

2. Go home. Don't stick at work all the year. You are not the pillar of your department. If you drop dead today, you will be replaced immediately and operations will continue. Make your family a priority.

3. Don't chase promotions. Master your skills and be excellent at what you do. If they want to promote you, that's fine if they don't, stay positive to your personal.

4. Avoid office or work gossip. Avoid things that tarnish your name or reputation. Don't join the bandwagon that backbites your bosses and colleagues. Stay away from negative gatherings that have only people as their agenda.

5. Don't ever compete with your bosses. You will burn your fingers. Don't compete with your colleagues, you will fry your brain.

6. Ensure you have a side business. Your salary will not sustain your needs in the long run.

7. Save some money. Let it be deducted automatically from your payslip.

8. Borrow a loan to invest in a business or to change a situation not to buy luxury. Buy luxury from your profit.

9. Keep your life,marriage and family private. Let them stay away from your work. This is very important.

10. Be loyal to yourself and believe in your work. Hanging around your boss will alienate you from your colleagues and your boss may finally dump you when he leaves.

11. Retire early. The best way to plan for your exit was when you received the employment letter. The other best time is today. By 40 to 50 be out.

12. Join work welfare and be an active member always. It will help you a lot when any eventuality occurs.

13.Take leave days utilize them by developing yr future home or projects..usually what you do during yr leave days is a reflection of how you'll live after retirement..If it means you spend it all holding a remote control watching series on Zee world, expect nothing different after retirement.

14. Start a project whilst still serving or working. Let your project run whilst at work and if it doesn't do well, start another one till it's running viably. When your project is viably running then retire to manage your business. Most people or pensioners fail in life because they retire to start a project instead of retiring to run a project.

15. Pension money is not for starting a project or buy a stand or build a house but it's money for your upkeep or to maintain yourself in good health. Pension money is not for paying school fees or marrying a young wife but to look after yourself.

16. Always remember, when you retire never be a case study for living a miserable life after retirement but be a role model for colleagues to think of retiring too.

17. Don't retire just because you are finished or you are now a burden to the company and just wait for your day to die. Retire young or whilst energetic to enjoy waking up for a cup of coffee, enjoy the sun, receive money from your business, visit nice place that you missed and spend good time with family. Those who retire late, spend about 95% of their time at work than with their family and that's why they see it difficult to spend time with their family when they retire but end looking for another job till they die. If they don't get another job, they die early.

18. Retire at your house than at government accommodation so that when you retire you can easily fit into the society that raised you. It's not easy to adjust to live in a location after spending more years at company house or at government house.

19. Never let your employment benefits make you forget about your retirement. Employment benefits are just meant to make you relax, get finished whilst time is moving. Remember when you retire no one will call you boss if you don't have a viable business.

20. Don't hate to retire because one day you will retire either voluntarily or involuntarily.

British and German soldiers hanging out with each other at Ploegsteert during the Christmas Truce, circa. December 24, 1914.
The famous Christmas Truce began along the Western Front. German soldiers at St. Yves in Flanders decorated their lines with candles and Christmas trees, following it up by singing Christmas carols. The British soldiers responded by singing carols of their own and soon soldiers from both sides began venturing out into no man’s land. This culminated into a full out Christmas Truce between the British and Germans, who all met each other face to face in no man’s land. The soldiers exchanged gifts such as alcohol, foods, to***co and souvenirs. They exchanged pictures of their families, took photographs with each other, held joint burial ceremonies for their fallen soldiers, and small-scale football (soccer) matches were played.
