ENCOUNTER | Five Abu Sayyaf Killed, Two government troops wounded in Sibugay Clash
CAMP SANG-AN, ZDS | Five Abu Sayyaf member were killed and two government troops were wounded in a Joint AFP/PNP pursuit operation in Brgy. Pres. Roxas, RT Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay Province, 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2020.
“This is the result of our pursuit operations against the armed elements of Abral Abdusalam and Sahibad Group led by Furuji Indama after our encounter in Barangay La Paz, Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay dawn of Sunday, September 6, 2020”, said Lt. Col. Don Templonuevo, 44th Infantry Battalion Commander.
Government troops were also able to recover four high-powered fi****ms, Improvised Explosive Device components, two motorcycles, three solar panels, magazines, ammunition and backpacks after the 30-minute clash against the 10 Abu Sayyaf Group member.
Pursuit operation is still on-going and the cadaver of the slain terrorist is still unidentified as of this posting.
Brig. Gen. Leonel Nicolas, Commander, 102nd Infantry Brigade in his statement, he said that the group are planning to conduct kidnapping activities in the region based on the reports received from their reliable source.
"The unit would also like to thank the locals who tipped-off the authorities of the presence of these terrorist groups which resulted to the timely response of our troops," said Brig. Gen. Nicolas.
It can be recalled last year that Hyrons couple were kidnapped by ASG in the area of responsibility of Joint Task Force Zampelan/1st ID.
Maj. Gen. Gene Ponio, Commander, 1st Infantry Division, lauded the troops of 44IB and PNP for the successful encounter against the ASG.
"Terrorism has no place in the area of responsibility of 1st Infantry Division and we urged the locals to remain vigilant and report to local authorities any presence of threats in their locality”, added Maj. Gen. Ponio.
Meanwhile, the two wounded soldiers, whose identities are yet to be disclosed, were airlifted to Camp Navarro General Hospital, Zamboanga City for proper medical attention. Both are on stable condition.
