DepEd WinS Program ensures learners and teacher’s safety, health, and well-being

Wash in School Program aims to install equipment to guarantee the safety to the surroundings of the students for a better environment along with the provision of sufficient water supplies, toilets, handwashing and drainage facilities.

Department of Education (DepEd) issued a Policy and Guidelines for the Comprehensive Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene in Schools (WinS) Program for the promotion of proper hygiene and sanitation practices among school children and a clean environment in and around schools to keep learners safe and healthy.

WinS Program collaborates with the Child Friendly School Society and Barkada Kontra – MAPEH Clubs to organize a poster-brochure making contest on Caraga Regional Science High School to lay out awareness and information on health-related issues to our fellow society.

In preparation for the upcoming face-to-face classes, the WinS program has prepared safety measures for the students under school premises such as all students in school shall perform supervised daily group handwashing with soap and toothbrushing. Meanwhile, A system of support mechanisms of effective menstrual hygiene shall be ensured in all schools.

The WinS program works on a long-term prevention and control measures for improving health, the procedure has six goals namely; prevent hygiene related disease, promote health seeking behaviour and life skills, improve attendance and participation, help them develop and learn better.

With lack of access to adequate water supply, poor toilet and proper handwashing facilities, and non-practice of hygiene behaviour remain key contributors to hygiene and sanitation challenges which situation also leads to bacterial infection, stunted growth, and higher occurrence of absenteeism that can consequently block a child’s learning and ability to stay in school.

CaraScians Donate 70 Bags of Joy To The Children Of Sitio Bioborjan

Due to the onslaught of bagyong Odette, the annual Karto Regalo – An Outreach Program of CRSHS has been left on hold. Luckily, on May 21, 2022, the SSG officers, together with GSP members and a few CaraScian volunteers headed by President Jade Del Rosario, successfully donated all 70 Bags of Joy to the children of Purok Settlers, Sitio Bioborjan, Surigao City. Each bag contains papers, a notebook, a pen, a pencil, an eraser, a box of colors, a sharpener, a coloring book, a hygiene kit, snacks, and toys.

The children, along with their parents, left with smiles on their faces after an afternoon full of playing, dancing, singing, and storytelling. This wouldn't be possible without the monetary and physical donations of the Carascian students and the support of the CRSHS faculty.

LOOK: The CRSHS Senior High School students faced the early morning with a smile as they enter the school campus for their first day of face-to-face classes! Greeted by a warm welcome by the teachers, staff, and our principal Ms. Maria Luisa A. Guyano, the day started out safe, memorable, and exciting.

With the ongoing rise of COVID cases in the city, Caraga Regional Science High School has made sure that safety measures and protocols will be implemented for all the classes, such as the proper use of face masks and social distancing. The school has provided handwashing facilities and a health monitoring system for the safety of the students, as well as provide disinfectants for the students, teachers, and staff.

It is indeed a memorable time for the SHS Carascians! No more ‘sanaol f2f’ and ‘mas gana ra gyud ang face-to-face classes’ moments for today’s updates. CRSHS is looking forward for more students to engage in the face-to-face classes so don’t pass up your chance, Carascians’! The journey for the face-to face classes in the new normal setup has just begun, so set your alarm clocks early and show them that, despite the pandemic, we still have the Carascians’ might.
