10 Lessons I’ve Learned in My Journey from Freelancer to Consultant

Consulting isn’t just about giving advice. It’s about empowering others to make breakthroughs.

In the past three months, I've been transitioning from a digital marketing agency owner to a content marketing consultant.

I admit, there were a lot of things I needed to fix.

It was like I was back to my old self in 2014 when I was shifting from corporate work into freelancing.

There were a lot of shadows I had to face and limiting beliefs I had to recognize.

I'm still far from where I want to be, but I've learned more about myself in the past three months that's helped me finalize this decision.

These are the 10 lessons I’ve picked up in my shift from freelancer to consultant.

1️⃣ Purpose is everything.

After ten years of freelancing, I realized it’s not just about the work. It’s about the impact.

Transitioning into consulting is about aligning my career with my true purpose: helping others grow through my insights and experience.

2️⃣ Authenticity builds stronger connections.

Over the years, I’ve found that showing up as my true self attracts the right kind of clients. In a sea of digital noise, people crave authenticity. And consulting lets me offer that at a deeper and more individualized level.

3️⃣ Consulting is about empowerment, not just advice.

I’ve spent years creating and executing strategies for others.

Now, I’m stepping into a role where I guide clients to make their own breakthroughs, helping them unlock the potential they already have.

4️⃣ Leadership comes from creating value.

Leading isn’t about being the loudest voice in the room. It’s about fostering spaces where people can learn and grow.

Through my workshops, bootcamps, and consulting, I’ve learned that true leadership is about serving others and creating lasting value.

5️⃣ Strategy over ex*****on.

Moving from service provider to consultant taught me the power of stepping back and seeing the bigger picture.

It’s not just about getting things done. It’s about guiding clients to a strategy that drives long-term success.

No one relates to perfection. Over the last few months, I’ve embraced vulnerability, sharing not just my wins but the mistakes that shaped my journey.

Ten years ago, I jumped into entrepreneurship with just the desire to learn, create, and grow.

I started Creative Labs PH from scratch and tackled the challenges of digital marketing, content creation, and lead generation head-on.

Along the way, I’ve had the honor of working with incredible clients and collaborating with amazing people and teams.

I've also made good friends along the way. People who keep me in line and also support my growth and accountability as a leader and as a person of influence.

It hasn’t always been easy.

I’ve faced my share of setbacks, but those moments taught me resilience and helped me see the true power of authentic storytelling.

What started as a way to gain financial independence turned into something much deeper.

It's become a journey of self-discovery, personal growth, and helping businesses find their voice.

Now, I’m thrilled to share that I’m stepping into a new role as a consultant and coach for content strategists and small and medium-sized businesses.

For the past few years, I’ve been nurturing this dream of blending storytelling, self-awareness, and business.

And now, with the power of data-driven strategies and AI, I’m ready to help SMBs unlock their full potential.

This isn’t just a career shift for me.

It’s the result of years of learning, evolving, and refining my skills.

I'm still in the process of refining the transformation that I will help my students and clients with.

But for now, I'm happy to share that I'm making this decision with a full heart and an optimistic perspective.

So I'd like to ask for your support while I go through this transition period.

There are still a lot of things I need to do and tweak so I can give my future clients the transformation that they need.

For now, I'd like to share this news with you also as a way to keep myself accountable.

Madalas sa mga aspiring freelancers na nakakausap ko, hirap na hirap mag niche down at pumili ng skill para makapagsimula.

Maraming overthink na nagaganap.

Madami din mga di sigurado kung anong gagawin.

Or feeling nila wala pa ring skill.

I've been reading news about people dying in their offices while working.

Like there's this one case na parang 4 days ago na an office worker in Wells Fargo na namatay sa desk nya.

The sad part about this is that no one was checking up on them. Umabot pa ng araw bago sya nakita.

Not even her manager checked on her.

I don't mean it to be morbid, and I feel so sad for about it.

Pero alam mo yun, etong mga balitang to yung mapapaisip ka na buti na lang may freelancing.

Despite the challenges that freelancing brings, I'm still blessed to be working from home, with an awesome network, and a community that supports one another.

However, I didn't expect it would happen so close to home.

Hubby and I worked in the BPO industry for years before we became freelancers.

Ben is one of the friends we made. In fact, ninong sya ng panganay namin.

He was a fun character. Sobrang nerdy, masaya na sya sa mga games, at mastered na nya ang Tekken sa PS2.

Madalas din namin syang nauutangan pag petsa de peligro na.

Ben had an easy laugh. Makulit lang talaga sya.

And despite us not getting updated, he is one of the people we genuinely love.

That's why I was heartbroken when I heard he collapsed while on the job.

Brain aneurysm at his 40s. Tsk.

Currently, his medical bills are now at 2.5 Million.

Because of this, I'm asking for your help so we can at least lessen the burden.

I'm relaunching my market research boot camp on October 11 so I can help raise funds for our friend and brother.

I was supposed to launch the boot camp at PhP 1500 so it would be a no-brainer for those who are just starting.

Google Trends? Statista? SEMRush? Ang dami kong na-discover na tools na super useful sa pag-intindi ng market trends.

Pero syempre, hindi lang tayo titigil sa analysis.

Market Gap Analysis and Strategic Roadmap ang bumuo ng kabuuan ng training.

Na-realize ko na kailangan talagang aralin kung ano ang kulang sa market at paano ka magpo-position para maging answer sa mga needs na iyon.
