About the Performers
Violist JOY ALLAN DRILON DE LA CRUZ, a native from Dipolog City, finished his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education Major in Viola (cum laude) from the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music in 2001 and Masters of Music in Music Education from Santa Isabel College Manila in 2013.
He is a student of Alfonso "Coke" Bolipata of Casa San Miguel, Zambales. He was the violist of the Pundaquit Chamber Players, Ramon Corpus String Quartet, UST Symphony Orchestra, Metro Manila Community Orchestra, Manila Philharmonic Orchestra and the San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra.
He attended viola masterclasses with Alexander Tomescu, Oscar Yatco, Paul Yarbrough, violist of the Alexander String Quartet and the 2016 Thailand International Viola Conference. He participated and performed in the 2021 and 2022 Online Viola Workshops and Programs by Dr. Mick Wetzel, Violist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
As a soloist, he performed with the UST Symphony Orchestra for the UST Tribute to the Thomasians at the CCP, and solo recitals in Casa San Miguel Zambales, UST Conservatory of Music, Santa Isabel College Music Department and chamber performances at the Manila Pianos and Music Gear Manila.
He is the Principal Violist of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra of the Cultural Center of the Philippines since 2007 up to present and currently the violist of the Clarion Chamber Ensemble. He is also a Viola Professor at the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music, and St. Paul University Manila Music Department.
Clarinetist JAYSON C. RIVERA is a member of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) and a faculty member of the University of the Philippines College of Music, Winds and Percussion Department.
He graduated with a Master of Music, Major in Music Performance (2020) at the Philippine Womenβs University, School of Music. He also received his Bachelor of Music (2005) and Diploma in Creative and Performing Musical Arts (2000) major in Clarinet at the University of the Philippines College of Music.
At the age of 11, he started his training when he joined the Cabiao Band 11 of Cabiao, Nueva Ecija. He became a soloist in the celebration of Saint Cecilia, patroness of music. In 1995, he had the opportunity to study at UP College of Music under the tutelage of Mr. Agapito Afortunado and Mr. Victorino San Antonio, Jr. He became a member of the UP Symphonic Band. In 1998, he was a featured soloist in the Tissot World of Music Concert held in Shangri-La Plaza Mall with the UP Symphonic Band.
In 2000, he became a pioneer member and principal clarinetist of the Metro Manila Community Orchestra (MMCO) under the Music Director and Conductor, Prof. Josefino Chino Toledo. He was a featured soloist in the MMCO concert season held at the Philamlife Auditorium and the University of the East Theater. He was also one of the soloists in the MMCO Young Artists Concert Series held at the Francisco Santiago Hall.
In 1998, he won the first prize for Clarinet Category C in the National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA). In 2002, he was awarded the Best Soloist in collaboration with the Angono Wind Ensemble under the baton of Maestro Jose Romel Gragera in the Certamen Band Competition held in Muntinlupa City.
He joined the Asian Youth Orchestra (AYO) Rehearsal Camp and Concert Tour in two consecutive years (2001 and 2002) which were held in Hong Kong, China, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines.
In 2012, he began his career as a pit musician in renowned musicals staged by local and international productions.
He was also a featured artist in the Manila Pianos Artist Series Concert, performing solo and chamber music. He was invited as a woodwind clinician during the summer workshops of the De La Salle Santiago Zobel School Symphonic Band, the Philippine Airforce Band, and other school bands and community bands in the Philippines. He teaches private lessons and conducts the orchestra occasionally.
Cellist GERRY GRAHAM GONZALES started lessons when he was eleven years old with Mr. Masatomo Toyoda in Cebu under a scholarship of the Salavador and Pilar Sala Foundation which was spearheaded by Dr. Ingrid Sala Santamaria. As he continued his journey to become a full pledged cellist, he received recognition by becoming a consistent prize winner of the solo violoncello category of the National Youth Competition for Young Artist (NAMCYA). He was able to perform as orchestra player in various music festivals in Asia such as the: Southeast Asian Youth Orchestra last 2006 to 2008 (SAYO) in Thailand, the ASEAN youth symphony orchestra in Cambodia in 2006, the 3rd World Cello congress and perform in the 1000 cello concert in Kobe last 2005, Japan under the baton of the legendary cellist Mstislav Rostropovich as well as the 5th 1000 cellist concert in Sendai, Japan last 2015. He also joined the Asia Orchestra Week 2013 as part the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) and in 2018 with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO). He said also participated in the Asia in Resonance 2019 Concert in Tokyo, Japan. His solo concert experience includes Tchaikovskyβs Variations on a Rococo theme op. 33 with FilharmoniKA last 2009 and Haydn Cello concerto in D with the UST symphony orchestra. As an orchestra musician, his experiences include the Cebu Youth Symphony Orchestra, Peace Philharmonic Philippines Manila Symphony Orchestra, and Manila Philharmonic Orchestra. He has attended several cello masterclasses including the Forum Artium, a cello masterclass with Prof. Tilmann Wick in Germany last January 2011. He is a member of the βThe Cello Sectionβ Cello Quartet and Quartetto Expressivo, a string quartet that won the 1st prize of the NAMCYA chamber music category in 2005. He is also a regular member of the Clarion Chamber Ensemble and the String Fusion string quartet. During his undergraduate study he was a recipient of the Battig and PREDIS scholarship. He graduated last 2010 at St. Scholasticaβs College Manila with a degree in Bachelor of Music major in Cello performance under the tutelage of Prof. Renato Lucas. Upon graduating, he received the St. Baptista Battig certificate of merit. Currently, he is the principal cellist of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra. Gerry is playing on an Amador Tamayo Cello.
