𝗕𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗔 | 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹, 𝗶𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘀𝗮 𝘀𝗮 𝗟𝗩𝗖𝗦

Upang maging handa sa posibleng lindol na maganap, nagsagawa ang La Verdad Christian School (LVCS) ng isang malawakang earthquake drill sa mga mag-aaral nito, kabilang na ang mga g**o, kahapon, ika-14 ng Enero ng kasalukuyang taon.

Ayon kay Dr. Sharene Labung, punong-g**o at administrator ng paaralan, nagpapasalamat siya na matagumpay na naisagawa ang naganap na earthquake drill sa loob ng school campus.

“Ang earthquake, unpredictable ‘yan—‘di natin alam kung ano at kailan mangyayari. Kaya itong earthquake drill na ito ay paghahanda sa atin,” ani Dr. Labung.

Kalakip nito ay iginiit naman ni Lloyd Yamson, isa sa mga estudyante ng LVCS, na nagagalak siya sa pagkakaroon ng ganitong paghahanda sa lindol.

“Yung mga estudyante ay napakamasunurin tapos makikita yung eagerness na gusto nila matutunan kung paano maisagawa yung earthquake drill,” saad ni Yamson.

Aniya, makatutulong din ito sa seguridad at kahandaan ng mga tao, lalo na ng mga mag-aaral dahil sila ay mga bata pa.

Sa kabuuan, inaasahang magkakaroon ng sapat na paghahanda at kaalaman ang mga mag-aaral at maging ang mga g**o sa mga ‘di inaasahang mga kalamidad tulad ng lindol.

The week-long Second Journalism Summit continues to take part in La Verdad Christian College (LVCC), gathering editors, leading journalists, and keynote speakers to discuss networking, innovation, and industry conflicts, and to share insights.

Several resource speakers, including Mr. Rey Tamayo Jr., Mr. Federico Gelido, Mr. Dominic Meily and Ms. Edyssa Belandres held discussions about topics related to writing and creatives.

Mr. Tamayo’s discussion tackled news values, including the danger of fake news, libel laws, and safeguarding of press freedom outlined in the Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines.

On the other hand, information about an advanced approach to editorial and column writing was highlighted by Mr. Gelido, while key points on visual language and elements were presented by Mr. Meily.

Moreover, the second session of the summit highlighted the role of journalism in fostering an informed society, outlining a way forward in the field.

𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗟𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗣𝗔𝗡𝗚-𝗔𝗚𝗛𝗔𝗠│𝗠𝗮𝗴-𝗜𝗻𝗴𝗮𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝘁𝗮𝘀

Malamig na paligid… Tunog ng malalaking patak ng ulan… Malakas na bulong ng hangin…

Sa mga nakalipas na buwan at hanggang ngayon, iyan ay ating nararanasan tuwing may mga bagyong sumasalanta sa ating bansa. Ito rin ay nagiging dahilan upang isuspende ang klase at mga trabaho sa mga lugar na apektado.

Hindi natin maikakaila na isa ang Pilipinas sa mga bansang madaling tamaan ng bagyo dahil ang ating bansa ay nakalugar sa tinatawag na “typhoon belt”—isang rehiyon kung saan karaniwang dumadaan ang mga bagyo.

Maraming mga kababayan na ang mga naapektuhan at nasalanta ng bagyo, kung saan ang mga daan ay halos pantay-pantay na dahil sa matinding pagbaha. Mayroon ding mga stranded o mga taong hindi makaalis sa kanilang mga tahanan bunga ng hagupit ng mga bagyong dumaan sa atin.

Tulad na lamang noong nakaraan magkasunod na naghasik ng lakas ang bagyong Kristine at Leon, kung saan umabot sa bilang na 9.6 milyong tao at 2.4 milyong mga pamilya ang apektado, ayon sa National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Ayon sa Science Watch Philippines, nasa bahagi ng Sigay Ilocos Sur ang sentro ng bagyo ngayon, ang bagyong na may dalang lakas na hangin na 120 km/h. Inaasahang lalabas na rin sa kalupaan ng Northern Luzon ang sentro ng bagyo at kikilos patungong West Philippine Sea.

Sa kasalukuyan, ayon sa PAGASA ay mayroon dalawang (2) bagyo ang posibleng pumasok sa bansa at tatama sa Luzon itong linggo. Kaya naman kakambal nito ang nararapat na doble-ingat. Maging handa, kapag may kalamidad.

𝗧𝗜𝗣 #𝟭: 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶 𝘀𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗯 𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗵𝗮𝘆. 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗱𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗸𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘀
Ating ingatan ang ating mga sarili. Ang pananatili sa loob ng ating mga tahanan ang pinakaligtas at mainam na gawin. Kung ito ay hindi maiiwasan, huwag kalimutan ang pagdadala ng payong o kapote bilang pananggalang sa ulan.

Huwag ding kalimutang magsuot ng bota tuwing lulusong sa baha, lalo na kung ikaw ay mayroong ‘open wound’ o sugat, upang maiwasan ang pagkakaroon ng leptospirosis—sakit na maaaring makuha sa kontaminadong tubig o baha.

𝗧𝗜𝗣 #𝟯: 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗸𝘁𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗮 𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗮𝘁 𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗸
Sa mga ganitong panahon din kadalasang lumalabas ang ating mga kalaban tuwing gabi. Ngunit ngayon, kahit anong oras ay maaari na natin silang makaharap. Upang sila ay maiwasan, itapon ang mga gamit na maaaring mag-imbak ng tubig-ulan at gumamit ng mga mosquito repellant lalo na ang mga bata.

The Torch x Ang Tanglaw’s closing ceremony marked the end of the 4-Day Seminar-Workshop on Campus Journalism, with the theme: “A Beginner's Workshop for Aspiring Campus Journalists,” signaling the start of the aspirants’ journey on the school’s Publication Club.

The beginner-friendly seminar-workshop included various activities, such as insightful lectures, hands-on writing exercises, and providing tips for aspiring campus journalists to enhance their writing skills.

Together with Student Publication Coordinator Ms. Arleen Carmona, members of the Student Publication Club handed out certificates of participation and recognition during the workshop's closing ceremony, acknowledging the aspirants.

According to Ms. Carmona, this is not the end of the aspirants’ journey, rather, it is only the beginning, and she hopes for all aspiring journalists to continue being active contributors to the club.

Meanwhile, plans for the upcoming Campus Journalism Summit are currently ongoing, with the target date being this November.

𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗔𝗟│META-talo pa ba sa AI?

Nakakikilabot isipin na tila nasasapawan na ng Artificial Intelligence o AI ang mga taong mismong lumikha rito na maging sa Messenger ay umabot na ang banta nito.

Laganap na ang paggamit ng AI sa kasalukuyan kasabay ng patuloy na pag-usbong ng teknolohiya. Halos lahat ay umaasa na rito. Hindi na lamang nito napabibilis ang trabaho at gawain ng tao, bagkus ito na mismo ang gumagawa sa mga ito.

Sa edukasyon pa lamang, 83% ng mga estudyante ay generative AI na ang gamit sa pananaliksik at pagsulat. Dagdag pa riyan, nakababahala na may kakayahan na itong palitan ang mga aktuwal na taong naghahanapbuhay, kagaya nina Maia at Marco na mga AI sportscaster ng GMA 7. Kaya naman, tila sumosobra na ang paggamit nito kung pati sa mga social media platform ay Meta AI na rin ang makakausap ng karamihan.

Matunog ngayon ang Meta AI na kung saan maaari nang magtanong at makipagkuwentuhan sa chatbot gamit ang Messenger. Kung iisipin, mas mapadadali nito ang proseso ng pagkuha ng impormasyon kumpara sa ibang apps at tradisyunal na pamamaraan, lalo pa’t higit sa isang bilyong tao na ang gumagamit ng Messenger ngayon.

Ngunit, hindi pa rin maikakaila na sa labis na paggamit nito ay higit pa ang pinsala kaysa pakinabang sakaling hindi magamit sa responsableng pamamaraan. Imbis na pagyamanin pa ang mga kakayahang pantao ay maaari pang magdulot ang Meta AI sa pagkawala ng mga ito bunga ng labis na pagdepende rito, lalo pa’t mabilis itong kausap sa Messenger. Ang AI ay pantulong lamang sa mga tao, hindi pamalit sa mga ito.

Bukod pa rito, hindi rin ligtas ang Meta AI sa pagiging katalista ng pekeng impormasyon sa internet.
