The TOXIC EFFECTS of "FAMILY CULTURE" at your Workplace.

“We’re a family.”

“Welcome to the family.”

"Work is like a family."

These are just few words that we here every time we're on a new workplace.
And the list goes on...

HERE ARE SOME OF THE REASONS WHY PROMOTING A FAMILY CULTURE AT WORK CAN BECOME TOXIC

1. VIOLATING PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL BOUNDARIES
We must understand that “FAMILY” means different things to different people. Not many of us want to communicate to their co-workers on a deeper level. Some would want to be associated even to a personal level but mostly would want to maintain the privacy of their personal lives outside work.

2. FAMILIES CAN BE UNWELCOMING TO OUTSIDERS
We know that in a Filipino culture we traditionally are very accommodating to visitors but we only extend the doors of our hospitality to a certain level. We have family cultures that we uphold above anything and anyone. So to consider a workplace a family we should also expect that it would differ according to race, sexuality, and class, because what family implies is a degree of similarity of being a good culture fit.

3. DYNAMIC VULNERABILITY
When you are promoting a family culture, does that make the department heads, managers, and supervisors the parents and the subordinates as children? And does that mean somebody there will inherit the company? Not everyone has good relationships with their parents or siblings or even relatives. Family members take constructive criticism too personal, you can't put them through performance improvement plan neither can you fire a family member.

So instead of promoting a "Family Culture" at work why not promote a "Team Culture" where you can engage and collaborate with empathy, belonging, shared values and goals, while maintaining a professional and performance driven culture with respect to each others boundaries and relationships. There are good family values that could benefit our work but not all of them can be beneficial to everyone. It's difficult to manage a family who's not on the same team, but you can create a dynamic team even though they do not belong to the same family.

An Aeroplane cleaner was cleaning the Pilot's cockpit, when he saw a book titled, "HOW TO FLY AN AEROPLANE FOR BEGINNERS (Volume 1)

He opened the first (1st) page which said: "To start the engine, press the red button...". He did so, and the airplane engine started...

He was happy and opened the next page...:
"To get the airplane moving, press the blue button... "He did so, and the plane started moving at an amazing speed...

He wanted to fly, so he opened the third (3rd) page which said: To let the airplane fly, please press the green button... "He did so and the plane started to fly...

He was excited...!!

After twenty (20) minutes of flying, he was satisfied, and wanted to land, so he decided to go to the fourth (4th) page... and page four (4) says; "To be able to know how to land a plane, please purchase Volume 2 at the nearest bookshop!"

*Moral Lesson*

Never attempt anything without complete information

*Half Education is not only dangerous but destructive!!!*
A word is enough for the wise.

What's so good in this place is that you can buy a freshly brewed coffee for only P10.00 the cheapest brewed coffee in town! Kung matilawan mo kay mabuhi gid ang imo napatay na nga balatyagon para sa iya 😂 😆 If you're a caffeinated type of ferson this place is for you 😁😁
