๐—ก๐—˜๐—ช๐—ฆ | RSU-RC Students Highlight Equality Through Speech Choir Performances

Students from the 1st-year BSIT, BSED, and BEED programs, together with 2nd-year BSBA students of Romblon State Universityโ€“Romblon Campus, presented their speech choir interpretations of โ€œEqualityโ€ as the culminating activity for their Purposive Communication course at the RSU-RC Quadrangle on October 9, 2025.

The event aimed to assess the studentsโ€™ communication and performance skills through a collective interpretation of โ€œEqualityโ€ by Maya Angelou, a literary piece that emphasizes the value of respect, freedom, and human rights. Each block delivered a unified presentation through synchronized delivery, coordinated movements, and expressive tone to convey the poemโ€™s message.

Some groups incorporated social and political themes into their interpretation, reflecting their understanding of the poemโ€™s relevance to contemporary issues. The performances were evaluated based on voice quality, synchronization, stage presence, and interpretation of the piece.

After deliberation, the 1st-year BSED English Department was declared champion and received the Best in Costume award. The 2nd-year BSBA Block 3 and 2nd-year BSBA Block 4 placed second and third, respectively.

The activity concluded with the awarding of winners and remarks from the instructors, recognizing the studentsโ€™ efforts and creativity in presenting a literary work that promotes equality and mutual respect.

๐—ข๐—ฃ๐—œ๐—ก๐—œ๐—ข๐—ก | WORDS FOR WORLD'S PEACE

In a world overwhelmed by conflict, division, and misinformation, many of usโ€”especially young peopleโ€”feel powerless. We see wars raging, communities divided, and hateful rhetoric spreading like wildfire. But what if the most powerful tools for peace arenโ€™t in the hands of politicians or armies, but in ours? I believe they are. Words, literature, and dialogue, when used with purpose, can become the most effective weapons against hate and misunderstanding.

At the heart of many conflicts is a failure to empathize. We fear and vilify those we donโ€™t understand. In a time when social media often reinforces bias and stifles meaningful conversation, itโ€™s easy to forget the human behind the headline or stereotype. That is where literature comes in. Through stories from different cultures, we gain insight into lives unlike our own. Books by authors like Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie or poets like Rumi challenge our assumptions and awaken our empathy. Here at home, the works of Nick Joaquin, Lualhati Bautista, and Ricky Lee remind us of our shared struggles and dreams as Filipinos. They donโ€™t just inform usโ€”they transform us.

But reading alone wonโ€™t heal the world. We must also talk to each other. Honest, respectful dialogue, especially with those who see the world differently, is how we begin to bridge divides. We must listen to understand, not just to argue. Students can lead the way by starting book clubs centered on diverse voices, organizing open forums in schools, or using social media to encourage thoughtful conversation instead of fueling division. In the Philippines, this is in the spirit of pakikipagkapwaโ€”recognizing our shared humanityโ€”and bayanihan, the tradition of collective action for the common good.

The truth is, we all have a role in building peaceโ€”and we donโ€™t need to wait. With our words, we can challenge injustice, uplift silenced voices, and reshape our future. Let our pens be our protest, and let our conversations be the foundation of a world rooted in understanding.

Peace doesnโ€™t begin with treatiesโ€”it begins with empathy. And that begins with us.

๐—ก๐—˜๐—ช๐—ฆ | RSU-Romblon Holds First Off-Campus Induction and Leadership Seminar for Student Leaders

Romblon State Universityโ€“Romblon Campus conducted its first-ever off-campus Induction and Leadership Seminar for student leaders last September 18, 2025, at the Multipurpose Hall in Barangay Capaclan, Romblon, Romblon.

The activity was held in partnership with the Provincial and Municipal Government of Romblon, the Office of Student Affairs Services, the Supreme Student Council, and various student organizations. It aimed to strengthen the leadership skills of participants and inspire them to embrace their roles and responsibilities as student leaders.

Guest speaker and presiding officer for the oath-taking, Hon. Trina Alejandra Q. Firmalo-Fabic, Provincial Governor of Romblon, highlighted two important attributes of leadership: listening and humility.

โ€œListen before we speak,โ€ she reminded, stressing that leaders must remain open to the diverse perspectives and suggestions of their members. She also emphasized humility, noting that the authority leaders hold comes from their position, not from themselves, and encouraged them to use their role to serve others effectively.

In the afternoon, the student leaders participated in team-building activities designed to enhance collaboration and improve leadership strategies through interactive games.
