From our earliest days, our parents are our primary source of wisdom. Their guidance and rules during our childhood kept us safe from everything from choking to strange dogs to traffic. No matter what our experiences since then, we see value in that foundational wisdom, which informs our desire to seek the wisdom of our Heavenly Father in adulthood.

God calls us to be peace-loving people in all that we do. For in Him, we know eternal peace, and so He instructs us to sow peace with others. Where condemnation leads to wrath and discord, peace sown in love and mercy leads to the righteousness that comes only from God’s grace.

We often think we can figure everything out by our own reasoning. We look to our own innovations to improve our lives. And though our philosophies change with each generation, our world really doesn’t improve. But God is timeless, and He calls us to center our wisdom not on our own shifting thoughts, but on His steadfast and timeless plans, which endure forever.

When we read the gospel stories, we might be tempted to see Jesus only as a man. A great and loving man, to be sure, but still just a man. So we are wise to remember that through Jesus, everything was made, including all of humanity. Jesus himself precedes creation. So when we look at Jesus, we see not just a man, but the fullness of the Father, in all of His power and sovereignty.

Compassion makes a difference. As Christians, we must remember that we were once lost, strangers to God. But somehow, God’s mercy reached us and overcame our doubt. And now, we are bearers of this same mercy, so that we may be filled with compassion for those who still doubt. So that through our compassion, God’s mercy might reach and save others, too.

We change plans when we encounter the unexpected or learn new information. But God has no need to alter His plans. He knows the end from the beginning, and there is nothing that can surprise Him. His purpose will be fulfilled because He alone is God. So when we make our plans, we ought to avail ourselves of His wisdom and seek His purpose.

God knows everything about us and more. His plans for us are always for peace and out of love – never for our destruction. God has always been concerned about saving His children, and save His children He did. What a loving Father we have found in the Almighty God.

We know that our future, as children of God, is a blessed future – filled with joy and peace. But the wicked face a terrible future faced with pain, sorrow, and great violence. We need to make sure that we do not stop preaching to the wicked so that they can turn from their ways and become saved. They are God's children too.

Through Jesus Christ alone are we made "alive unto God. " If we are dead to sin, then it wil lose its power over us. If we are alive to God, we will respond in love and obedience to his Word and his Spirit.

We cannot appreciate the magnitude of God's gift of eternal life until we first understand that the wages of sin is death. Wages are what we "earned, " what we "deserve. " "Death" is not only physical death, here, but spiritual and eternal death. Our sin was an offense to the infinitely holy God, and thus justly deserved eternal punishment. But God's grace, which was greater than all our sin, brings us eternal life instead.

Part of being a Christian is humbling ourselves and realizing that without God, our lives truly mean nothing. We are to acknowledge that we have made a conscious choice to turn away from the bad deeds and sinful habits, and we have turned to the holy life God has presented before us.

It's our human nature to come up with plans, thoughts, and goals for the future. But we need to realize God is the only one who truly knows what's best for us. When you have plans you would like to make, or actions you need to take about a particular decision, make sure that you go to God first.
