Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II wants to make the presence of the agency’s enforcers felt on the Marilaque Road in Rizal following the multiple cases of accidents involving motorcycles, the recent was the viral video of two motorcycle crashes that left one vlogger dead.

On Monday, January 27, Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) director Police Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta paid a visit to Asec Mendoza and the two officials discussed ways to strengthen the cooperation and coordination to ensure road safety.

One of the matters discussed was the incident on Marilaque Road and the two officials agreed to boost the LTO and PNP presence in the area to compel motorcycle riders to behave.

Asec Mendoza said he already instructed LTO-Calabarzon Regional Director Elmer Decena to coordinate with the local police forces and the local government units (LGUs) to prevent the Marilaque Road from being turned into a motorcycle exhibition area for motorcycle riders.

“We have to put a stop to this practice because it endangers the lives of not only the motorcycle riders but also the other road users passing in the area. In the most recent case, may namatay na nga motorcycle vlogger at may mga nadamay pang turista,” said Asec Mendoza.

“In coordination with the PNP and the LGU, we will make our presence felt in the area to run after those who are using that public road for daredevil stunts and other motorcycle-riding exhibitions,” he added.

Asec Mendoza’s order came after the reported death of motovlogger John Louie Arguelles after he crashed along with another motorcycle rider after performing the so-called Superman stunt using his motorbike.

The other rider who survived the crash is now facing criminal charges in connection with the incident.

On the part of the LTO, Asec Mendoza said they will issue a show cause order (SCO) against the survivor for him to explain why his driver’s license should not be revoked for the stunt.

Among the administrative charges he is facing is reckless driving and improper person to operate a motor vehicle.

Asec Mendoza said he expects that proper security arrangements will be discussed by LTO-Calabarzon with the local police forces to prevent the repeat of the incident.

“We would like to remind the motorcycle riders again to refrain from turning public roads as your exhibition areas. Napaka-iresponsableng gawain po ito. May mga tamang lugar para doon at hindi dapat ang mga kalsada dahil nilalagay ninyo sa alanganin ang buhay ng mga road users,” said Asec Mendoza. #
