Philippines' projected GDP growth is the HIGHEST in ASEAN+ China and India - IMF

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) raised its growth forecasts for the Philippine economy to six percent this year, higher than previous projection of five percent back in January, despite inflation spikes, based on its April 2023 World Economic Outlook (WEO) report released on Tuesday, April 11.

The Philippines’ projected six percent GDP growth for 2023 is the highest among ASEAN-5 plus China and India. The others in the top five in terms of growth forecast is India with 5.9 percent, Vietnam with 5.8 percent, China with 5.2 percent, and Indonesia with five percent.

Php 21.6 Billion Solar Power Plant BREAKS GROUND in the Municipality of Tuy, Batangas

Renewable energy firm Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation has kicked off the construction of its largest project under its portfolio — the 680-megawatt peak solar power plant in Tuy, Batangas.

The company broke ground for the P21.60-billion solar project on Tuesday. The facility is scheduled to start commercial operations in 2024.

CLARK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT RAILWAY STATION UPDATE

The NSCR (North-South Commuter Railway) Clark Airport Station that will serve airport express trains that runs 160kmph with a direct link to the Clark International Airport.

This project is one of two ongoing railway projects with a direct link to the airport, the other one being the Metro Manila Subway.

Around 160,000 workers are expected to benefit from the planned Philippine Heart Center (PHC) annex at Clark Freeport in Pampanga, the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) on Saturday.

CDC President and Chief Executive Officer Agnes Devanadera, in a statement, said Clark is “the perfect venue to provide accessible and quality healthcare services to the people of Central and Northern Luzon, including to more than 160,000 Clark workers.”

The CDC said that the PHC may be built on a 5.7 – hectare land inside the freeport.

READ | The policy-making National Economic and Development Authority Board approved a total of 194 priority infrastructure projects worth about ₱9 trillion.

During a Palace briefing on Thursday, NEDA Secretary Arsenio Balisacan said 123 projects are "new and initiated" in the current administration.

Majority of the projects are in physical connectivity and water resources, including irrigation, water supply, and flood management.

Projects in digital connectivity, health, power, and agriculture would also be prioritized, Balisacan said.

Progress of the soil surveys of the Bataan-Cavite bridge carried out by DPWH, designed by TY Lin- PEC joint-venture and co-financed by ADB and AIIB.

The Bataan–Cavite Interlink Bridge will be 32.15 kilometers (19.98 mi) long and will cross over Manila Bay. The four-lane bridge will connect the towns of Mariveles, Bataan and Naic, Cavite. The bridge will consist of two main navigation bridges.

Once completed, it will be the longest bridge in Southeast Asia and the second longest bridge in the world after Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge in China.

READ | Chinese businessmen eye more investment opportunities in the Philippines at GCC launching in Mexico, Pampanga

Asec. Peñaranda commended the opening of the Global Construct City (GCC) project, which not only envisions more affordable building and home materials for Filipinos, but also contributes to make the Philippines become more attractive to foreign investors while providing jobs to people in the area toward a post-pandemic economic recovery.

In line with the issuance of Executive Order No. 18, which mandates the establishment of Green Lanes for Strategic Investments, Secretary Pascual stated in one of his speeches that,

“DTI, with the support of the Philippine government, is also enabling cross-cutting mechanisms to ease and attract foreign investments. The establishment of Green Lanes will fast-track the processing of permits and licenses and offer the Board of Investments as a single point of entry for strategic investments. We encourage you to consider the opportunities this mechanism offers.”

The DTI is keen on ensuring an enabling business environment in the Philippines as we aim to promote the Philippines as an investment destination in the region.

Diokno restated his firm commitment to complete real property tax administration reforms during the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with pilot local government units (LGUs) and partner state universities and colleges to implement the Local Governance Reform Project (LGRP).

The LGRP aims to strengthen the revenue generation capabilities of LGUs and serve as a launchpad for more efficient, effective, and equitable public service delivery.

Bautista and Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation President Rodrigo Franco, inspected on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 the first 5.15-kilometer section of the four (4) lane NLEX-SLEX Connector Road extending from the end of NLEX Segment 10 in C3 Road, Caloocan City to the España Interchange along España Boulevard in Manila City.

“We are targeting to open the España Section before Holy Week to help decongest vehicular traffic in Metro Manila especially to and from the Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, and Valenzuela (Camanava) area,” said Secretary Bonoan.

When completed, the four (4) lane NLEX-SLEX Connector Road will connect NLEX Segment 10 to the end of Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in Sta. Mesa, greatly reducing travel time from SLEX-Alabang to NLEX-Balintawak from two (2) hours to just 20 minutes.

The P23.2-billion NLEX-SLEX Connector Road is a joint implementation project by the Philippine Government thru DPWH and Manila North Tollways Corporation (MNTC) under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Program.

The project alignment has mostly utilized portions of the Philippine National Railways (PNR) road right-of-way.

“Construction of the second section stretching from España Boulevard to Polytechnic University of the Philippines - Sta Mesa is being fast-track to provide trucks with an alternative route from the ports to the south and improve connectivity between Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and Clark International Airport,” added Secretary Bonoan.

Also present during the inspection were DPWH Undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral, DOTr Undersecretary for Legal Affairs Reinier Paul Yebra, DPWH PPP Service OIC Director Pelita V. Galvez, DPWH Planning Service Director Alex G. Bote, Toll Regulatory Board Executive Director Alvin Carullo, DMCI President and CEO Jorge A. Consunji, and officials and representatives of MPTC and NLEX Corporation.

The Philippines is in the running for five major trophies in the Asia category in the 2023 World Travel Awards (WTA), Department of Tourism (DoT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco announced on Tuesday.

Two of the country's most popular stops, Cebu and Intramuros, have been nominated, respectively, as Top Wedding Destination and as Leading Tourist Attraction after winning it last year.

The Philippines is again in the running for Asia's Leading Beach Destination at this year's 30th edition of the WTA, also after bagging the same category in September last year in Vietnam.
