In parishes where there is growing diversity, the head of the country’s Catholic episcopal conference said synodality helps people realize that “the mission is about the Church.”

31/07/2024

I have a feeling that many parish priests are actually in a state of fatigue, in a state of burnt out. And maybe precisely because we do have a tendency to operate within a clericalistic paradigm where all the burden falls on us. And it is so unnecessary. That’s why synodality brings in the wisdom of NOT MONOPOLIZING THE MISSION. The mission is about the Church.

You have a specific participation in that mission as ordained ministers. But the burden becomes much lighter when precisely we are able to empower our laity to participate meaningfully and effectively in the life and mission of the Church.
