BE OUR GUEST!
by: Marlou Alonde

No corners left untouched and rocks unturned as catherineans unite in cleaning the entirety of the school campus. Split into teams, they work together to ensure the cleanliness of the school, truly to divide and conquer!

-Lianne Cruz, 10-Temperance

Big things seem intimidating at first, but through unity and teamwork, they shrink down to almost into minuscule sizes, giving a big opportunity to conquer.

A CHORUS WORTH LIVING
by Marlou Alonde

As the wondrous celebration of Sister Aileen Saligan’s birthday continues onward, Himig Dominikano takes the stage and warms the hearts of both the audience and the birthday girl herself with their amazing talent in music! What effects does a tremendous occasion have on their performance? And did they themselves enjoy it?

“Oo meron dahil hinanda namin siya para kay sister at para sa mga students.
Naenjoy namin dahil sulit ang practice at naentertain namin ang mga audience. Congrats din sa lahat ng mga nag perform🫶🏻”

-Sean Nomorosa (HIMIG DOMINIKANO)

“para sa'kin may nabago sa performance namin dahil gusto din naming makabawi since last time hindi kami na satisfied and na down kami sa last performance namin. Kahit sobrang konti ng time para mag practice binigay pa din namin ung best namin para maideliver ung kanta nang maayos para mapasaya din namin si sister and ung mga fellow catherineans, and yes na enjoy ko ung performance namin ngayon dahil naging successful ung performance mismo. Lastly, I just want to end this interview to greet Sr. Aileen a happy birthday again!!”

-Adrian Panganiban (HIMIG DOMINIKANO)

“Minsan lang ako ma-SCC Press, gagawa na ko ng essay. Sa totoo lang, sobrang bitin. We've prepared at least five full songs nung monday rehearsal since most likely last performance na 'yun ng himig, and probably our last stage presence siguro sa Sta. Pero we need to respect time talaga. We need to understand limits. Pero sabi ko nga sa kanila, hindi kami nagperform para sa amin, nagperform kami para kay sister, para sa audience. And yes, I truly enjoyed it, lahat ng sigawan sa practice hanggang sa mga saluhan sa stage. Sobrang gulo ng himig, sobra. From Tambol ni Sean hanggang sa bola ni JC. Pero siguro kung hindi nila ginagawa 'yun, ang lungkot ng banda. What goes in the circle stays in the circle talaga eh, I have too many stories to tell, pero next time na 'yun, kung sakaling may next time pa. I would also like to take this moment to thank Mr. Jocson for offering us this great opportunity that truly altered my, or if I may say, our musical mindset. I will forever cherish our short era, and I will always love "Himig Labskars."

-Mharion Mamalo Jr. (HIMIG DOMINIKANO)

Mistakes leave not only pain, but also lesson to be dealt with. Learning is one of the many cores of life alongside the memories one can comprehend and keep no matter how many years or birthdays come and go. Happy Birthday our dear Directress!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SISTER!

Today we celebrated the anticipated birthday of our beloved Directress/Principal, Sr. Aileen D. Saligan, O.P.

A short program was conducted right after the mass for the first friday of the month to celebrate Sr. Aileen's special day.

Among the performers who presented for the beloved celebrant was the Performing Arts club, selected elementary students who sang Sr. Aileen's favorite songs, and the Himig Dominikano. It was truly a joyful day, not only to Sr. Aileen, but also to all Catherineans present today, for it was an "R and R" day which, according to Sr. Aileen, was "Rest and Recreation" day.

OUR END IS OUR BEGINNING
by Trinity Jasmine Sunga

Today, we celebrate the Closing Ceremony of the 80th Foundation Anniversary, as well as, the feast day of our patron saint, St. Catherine of Siena.

At 8:40 A.M, the Catherineans were delighted and gave a warm welcome to our guests, Malaban Elementary School, which was assisted by the selected students of Gr. 9- Fortitude. The culminating event officially started with the entrance of colors and opening prayer.

To start with a vibrant mood, Mr. Rannie Jocson, our MC for today's event asked fun trivia questions regarding our Alma Mater, which students excitedly participated in.
It was later on followed by the Opening Remarks that were led by Marian Cindy Salvador from Gr. 11-Commitment.

Everyone was brimming with excitement as the Performing Arts, Grade School Pupils, and Himig Dominikano executed another new and different outstanding performance, that showcases the hidden talents of the Catherineans.

Next was the Community Singing of Erik Santos's song that is titled "Next In Line".

One of the most long-awaited performances for today was the collaboration of the former and current members of Hataw Dominikano which made the crowd go wild.

As for the Closing Remarks, Our Director Principal, Sr. Aileen D. Saligan, O.P. spoke encouragement to our guests and was very happy about today's successful turnout of events.

The occasion ended with another Community Singing of the Jubilee Hymn for the last time and the School Hymn with the closing prayer from Gr. 10 - Temperance's Raphael Loresto.

"ENCORE! ENCORE!"
by Marlou Alonde

Crowd cheers as the performing arts club conquers the stage! Giving us an awe-inspiring performance with their amazing moves! Not only being able to entertain us, but also telling us the School's history as the years go by! They put on amazing dance performances with a theme from the 1950s to the 2010s.

We have prepared an interview with Matthew Gabriel Morales from 11 - Commitment, the Vice Governor of the Performing Arts, and was asked what are his thoughts about their performance today.

"Second time ko 'to maghandle ng play, and I think this is the longest performance ng P.A. Ang daming ideas, especially yung ending naming nagikot-ikot ng flags, I think it's a good idea kasi closing s'ya ng 80th anniversary. We have 2 weeks of preparation, nagawa namin yung 15 minutes na performance, natapos namin s'ya, at nahirapan din ako sa paghahandle ng P.A. ngayon kasi sabay ung hataw, tsaka sa P.A. dumadating sa punto na hindi ko sila nakukukusan, pero I'm very thankful na, ayan, nangyari, nagawa, and it's successful. I'm also thankful sa P.A. Family ko for their cooperation and their support sa'kin as naghahandle, very very grateful sa kanila, and I believe this is not the last performance ng P.A. this school year. Let's see, let's see, kung ano yung mga susunod, probably before mag-end ang school year, one week before, baka magkaroon ng performance pa ang P.A."

Matthew Morales was also asked what can he say about the Performing Arts' performances through out the whole year, "Tanda ko nung unang beses na mag-perform ang P.A., wala talagang akong nakikita na ganito ang mangyayari sa dulo, ang tanda ko n'on, tatlo kaming grupo, that was Mr. & Ms. Earth, and ito na lang kami ngayon, umunti kami pero yung energy nandon pa rin, syempre. The last two performances ng P.A., I was given a chance na makapaghandle, and I am very very thankful talaga sa lahat ng naging parte ng P.A., from then until now. To our club moderator, from Sir Pee-jay hanggang kay Ms. Gecelle. I am very thankful. From the bottom of my heart, I love them, I love them so much!"

We have prepared also an interview to one of the members of performing arts Adrian Imperial and was asked about how his experience as one of the performance in the closing of 80th "Syempre masaya kase naging parte ako/ kami ng closing, ayun ang trabaho namin as P.A to give entertainment sa mga nanonood"

He was also questioned regarding how hard or under pressure he felt about performing in the closing of the 80th "Mahirap gawa ng hindi biro yung ginagawa naming practice, nag bibigay talaga kami ng oras para sa practice. Nakakapresured pero at the same time masaya kase yung pressure nayun parang ginagawa namin as motivation na mas galingan pa"

HATAW, DOMINIKANO!
by Charlene Sy

Today, the first ever performance of the new set of Hataw Dominikano was witnessed. Himig Dominikano's performances were followed by a spectacular and hyped performance from the new members of the Hataw Dominikano, along with the former dance group members, Toviel Marcellana, Jelena Rivera, and Yna Arcega. They performed to several songs and were ended by the students deafening cheers and applause.

During the recess break, the students of Malaban came to the canteen to eat. Though the canteen was packed with many students, we luckily managed to interview plenty of members of the Hataw Domikano.

"Syempre kinabahan ako noong una kasi nandito nako as an alumni. Pero nung nagperform na kami, okay na. So, kapag nagpeperform kayo dapat, do your best at kahit magkamali kayo patuloy lang dapat," Toviel Marcellana said.

As we got inside the canteen, we found Raijen Caparas, who is one of the new members of the Hataw Dominikano. "Kinabahan na medyo excited nung una, masaya naman, naenjoy ko yung performance." She said in an interview

Inside the Bulwagan, we conducted an interview with Ravielle Carlos, also a new member of the dance group. "I felt proud because they worked hard for this performance."

After the mass, we got to interview Jondell Calinog. "Sa una kinabahan, pero sa gitna ng performance sumaya kasi madaming nagchecheer sa'min and after that performance, dun namin naramdaman yung pagod kasi inabot kami ng gabi pagpapractice." He said.

After the performance, the members of Hataw Dominikano are noticeably tired, but they are fulfilled and happy, for they gave us not just a good performance but also great entertainment. All their practice and hard work have paid off.

The new members of Hataw Dominikano will surely continue to shine starting now. Let's Hataw, Dominikano!

TO MOUNTAINS AND GOD'S GRACE

On April 14–15, 2023, both sections of the tenth grade, together with the graduating sixth grade batch, went for their retreat up in the mountains of Tagaytay at the Reparatrix Sisters of the Sacred Heart Retreat Center. The students experienced both fun and enlightening moments with their friends and fellow Catherineans under the forever loving gaze of God, not to mention a final all-fun trip to Sky Ranch Tagaytay!

"Nung una nashock ako sa ganda ng place, kasi parang ang peaceful ng place, marami din akong mga natutunan kay father about sa love. Masaya rin kasi andyan 'yung mga friends ko para samahan ako sa tabi tabi tsaka sa room namin ang saya puro kwento sila then nakikisali din si Ms.Daniella. Nakakamiss po sa retreat house, tsaka best memories na rin po para sakin yon."

- Angely Gayta, 10 Temperance

"The Retreat helped me renew and refresh my mindset in life kasi diba may confession sa retreat and na advisan ako ni father sa mga problema ko, so nagka bago akong bagong mindset na alam ko tama yung mindset nayon and yung connection ng section naten js nag refresh at mas naging matibay after that."

-Marc Capili, 10 Humility

"Nasunod naman ang schedule naten and ang mga bata on time. Hindi maiiwasan na meron talagang mga pasaway pero overall naman mababait, talagang likas lang na may makukulit."

-Sr. Aileen D. Saligan, O.P., school principal

Memories are meant to be shared with those we care about, even on the ground or in the clouds. Opportunities like these go by and fade like bubbles, but the memories you make are what stick forever, with the support of those you love and the light of God.

The Third Convocation was held earlier, at 8:00 a.m. It was first started by the opening prayer from Beatrice Suarez, a Grade 6-Charity pupil, and the opening remarks held by Matthew Gabriel Morales from Grade 11-Commitment.

Before the giving of awards, the performance from the P.A. was introduced by Jaydee Tiopas from 8-Generosity and Andre Farcon from 9-Fortitude, followed by the giving of merit cards, guided by Mr. Rannie Jocson.

The awarding started with Kinder to Grade 6 pupils. The grade school coordinator is Ms. Glady Aguirre, with Sister Aileen Saligan, OP and class advisers. After that, the giving of awards for high school students was followed by High Honors, With Honors, Achiever, and Perfect Attendance.

"This is my first time mabigyan ng chance mag lead ng P.A, satisfied ako sa mga nangyari kasi worth it lahat, na enjoy ko siya sobra and I'm looking forward for our next performance," by Matthew Gabriel Morales, 11-Commitment (Performing Arts)

"Nakakaba pero nakakaexcite at same time, nakakatuwa kasi habang nag papractice kami lalong lumalalim ang aming samahan kaya nakakabuo ng magandang performance." by Sean Nomorosa, 10-Humility (Himig Dominikano)

"Hindi pa rin talaga mawawala yung kaba kahit maraming beses na kaming nag perform sa harap ng maraming tao, pero mas lamang pa din para sa'kin ung saya and enjoyment habang nag peperform kami sa stage. Masaya din ako kasi mas lumalawak at mas lumalalim pa ung samahan ng banda namin habang tumatagal," by Adrian Panganiban, 10-Humility (Himig Dominikano)

We also conducted an interview with the GS Department teachers about the performance of their students.

While many of the featured sports feature physical fitness and athleticism, the game for this report features the conclusion to the quiet but fierce battle of the minds, Chess!

Like in professional chess, the chess tournament was played in a point-based system unlike the typical round robin in other sports. Players are given 1 point for winning, half a point for a draw, and no points for losing. Players are paired with a different opponent per round, with 6 rounds for the boys and 5 for the girls.

As for our players bearing the SCC seal, Francis Cariño and Gabriel Dagohoy played for the boys division, while Ericka Arriesgado and Ashley Mapula played for the girls division.

Even with their hearts pounding, our players fought spectacularly and with honor. At the conclusion of the event, on the boys division, Francis Cariño made it to the top 5, placing 4th, with a score of 4 points, winning 4 games and losing 2, and Gabriel Dagohoy catching up with a score of 3 points, winning 3 games and losing 3.

"First half medyo disappointed ako, pero sa remaining rounds ang outstanding ng laro ko"

-Francis Cariño's thoughts on how he played

In the girls division which only had 5 rounds, Ericka Arriesgado finished with 2 points, winning 2 games and losing 3, and Ashley Mapula also finishing with 2 points winning 2 games and losing 3.

"Maganda naman laro ko pero minsan pumapangit yung moves ko pag kinakabahan ako to the point na hindi ko na nababawi, kaya 2 3 ang score"

-Ericka Arriesgado conveying both satisfaction and disappointment

With the tournament already at its conclusion, it is undeniable that regrets linger within our players, but to our players, keep in mind, a loss is essential to a hundred more victories, it is about how much you improve, and the fun you had in pursuit of that improvement. We support you and you have done great! We are proud of you!

And thus concludes this report. Thank you and Godbless from the SCC Press!

CHOREOS OF TALENTS
by Ericka Arriesgado, Prudence Berroya, and Ashley Mapula

Hataw Dominikano is the official dance troop of Sta. Catalina College. Today , March 15, 2023. At around 2 p.m., the audition for the new batch of Hataw Dominikano began.

Alexandre Farcon initiated the start of the audition. The judges present were all previous members of the Hataw Dominikano years ago, and it seems like they all had fun with their little reunion.

The first part of the audition is the solo dance performance of each auditionee, with their choice of song and dance steps. The next part was a dance tutorial by one of the judges, Toviel Marcellana, which tested their skills on dance step adaptation. Some met the expectations of the judges, and some did not. Overall, they all stand out. The audition has come to an end, and we have started to interview some of the auditionees.

"Kinabahan pero alam ko na nasiyahan mga nanonood sa’kin." Claire Dianne Tipdas from 9-Loyalty stated

"Chill sa una tapos nung natapos na, nanginig sa backstage." Jamilla Katheleene Monge from 7-Prudence

"Kinabahan, kasi nakakalimutan steps tapos naghalo-halo emosyon, pero proud pa din." Arkin Cardoza from 7-Friendship

"Kinakabahan at napressure ako, but at the same time proud din ako, saka confident ako aksi alam kong maangas ako," said Raijen Caparas from 9-Loyalty.

After the audition, we attempted to interview the judges to determine if their standards were met by the auditionees and how they were met.

Jayris Calda answered "partially".

Lester Almalvez on the other side said, "Half of it."

"60%, since I already watched them many times performing, I thought magiging same energy sa binigay nila dati, tho understandable naman the pressure they felt." Jelena Rivera answered.

"For me, mga 70% po, actually I was shocked, since I didn't expect yung iba na naabutan namin na students na nag audition magaling pala to be honest, there are some who exceeded my expectations; I know that mas mamomold pa sila through practicing. It's really a good experience." Nicole Sunga

"Para sa akin, okay naman yung mga nag-audition need lang talaga ng proper training or practice. Hindi naman madali maging dancer, lahat may proseso." Toviel Marcellana

"I would say na-meet naman somehow. It's normal naman na in every audition, merong makaka-meet or even exceed ng expectations mo with regard to their current dancing skills. There will be also na syempre hindi aabot sa standards namin, as someone na may experience na sa performing. But overall, it's a good experience naman judging this audition. It's a privilege for us." from Yna Arcega.

The qualified members of Hataw Dominikano are to be announced soon.
