OZAMIZ CITY MAYOR CALLS FOR COLLECTIVE EFFORT TO KEEP CITY CLEAN AND SAFE

Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental | via Bhal Cabrera | January 16, 2024

In a proactive move to ensure the cleanliness and safety of Ozamiz City, Mayor Atty. Henry โ€œINDYโ€ F. Oaminal Jr. took to his official social media platform to rally residents in a campaign for a cleaner and safer environment. The Mayor posted an urgent message, "LETโ€™S KEEP OUR CITY CLEAN AND SAFE!โ€ highlighting the crucial need for collective responsibility.

The Mayor revealed the immediate action of opening city canals for cleaning, unveiling an alarming amount of waste improperly disposed of on the streets. "Mao kini ang nakita pag-abri sa ato mga canal for cleaning - sako sako na basura na sa dalan lang gipanglabay," the Mayor expressed concern over the recklessness of waste disposal practices.

Emphasizing the local government's commitment to maintaining Ozamiz's cleanliness and beauty, the Mayor urged citizens to actively participate in waste management efforts. "The local government will continue to work hard to keep Ozamiz clean, beautiful, and safe, but we can only do so much unless everyone cooperates and does their share," the Mayor stated.

The Mayor warned against the consequences of improper waste disposal, underscoring the potential for hazards such as flooding due to clogged canals. "Kung mupadayon ta sa pagbilin sa ato basura sa bisan asa, it will not only make our streets dirty, but it will also expose us to avoidable hazards," the Mayor cautioned.

The Mayor stressed the importance of unity in the community, stating, "Kinahanglan magtinabangay ta tanan para magpabilin limpyo ug hapsay ato siudad." He highlighted the significant impact of using proper garbage disposal facilities, stating, "Dako na nga tabang ang paglabay sa ato basura sa basurahan. Dili pud ni lisod buhaton. Disiplina lang ang kailangan."

Concluding the message, the Mayor appealed to the residents of Ozamiz to be mindful of their waste disposal habits. "So I appeal to all Ozaminons to dispose of their garbage properly. Let us do this dili lang para maka-iwas sa 3,000 pesos na multa, but to keep our city clean and safe. Thank you in advance to everyone!" the Mayor expressed gratitude for the anticipated cooperation from the community.

As Ozamiz City stands at a critical juncture in waste management, Mayor Atty. Henry โ€œINDYโ€ F. Oaminal Jr. remains optimistic that the united efforts of the residents will lead to a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant city.

League of Cities of the Philippines Supports Amending 1987 Philippine Constitution for National Growth

Manila, Philippines | via Bhal Cabrera | January 12, 2024

The League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) has expressed its strong endorsement for amending the 1987 Philippine Constitution, emphasizing the need to adapt to evolving times. LCP National Chairperson and Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez underscored the long-standing discussion on charter change, dating back to the era of former President Fidel Ramos.

In a radio interview Mayor Benitez stated, "The topic of charter change is not new. Since the time of former president Fidel Ramos, charter change has already been discussed, because we see the shortcomings, the provisions that we need to amend amid changing times."

The LCP, in its resolution, highlighted that the proposed constitutional amendments aim to usher in "growth and development" for the country. The resolution affirmed, "Resolved, that the LCP supports the initiative to propose amendments to the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines as these will bring the necessary growth and development needed by our economy."

Mayor Benitez clarified that the suggested changes extend beyond economic provisions. "Itโ€™s open, not just specific to economic provisions; we know that whatโ€™s constant is change. If we canโ€™t adjust to our environment, to the changing times, we may be left behind."

The League of Cities of the Philippines stands firm in its belief that adapting the constitution to contemporary needs is essential for the progress of the nation, echoing the sentiment that change is a constant and failure to adjust may result in stagnation.

In an exclusive interview with Dr. Lourdius M. Caliao, Ozamiz City Veterinarian IV, it has been confirmed that Ozamiz City remains free from African Swine Fever (ASF). Vigilant efforts, including continuous monitoring at checkpoints and ports, have been instrumental in maintaining the city's ASF-free status.

Livestock owners can also obtain certification from their Municipal Veterinarian to ensure the health of their animals.

Furthermore, the Ozamiz City Veterinary Office continues its commitment to animal welfare with ongoing initiatives. Castration procedures for dogs and cats are being carried out, contributing to responsible pet ownership and population control.

In addition, the City Veterinarian's office is actively providing Rabies vaccinations for pets, reinforcing the city's dedication to preventing the spread of this potentially fatal disease.

Beyond animal health, Dr. Caliao shared the success of a livelihood program benefiting People Who Use Drugs (PWUDS). The initiative aims to provide meaningful opportunities, fostering positive change within the community.
