Totally agree to this šÆ.
As of now mga invite sakin puro low-ball na rin as a SMM. Imagine a-avail nila service mo for only $100 per month? Gusto pa daily at more than 3 platform? š£
So ayun nga, my student shared a story about how one of these big freelancing platforms allowed a client to post a job offering for as low as $1 per hour and $70 per month for admin tasks.
Yes, you read that rightāONE DOLLARS PER HOUR.
And for full-time work, ha!
Marami pang ibang clients out there who think na dahil lang nasa Pilipinas tayo, they can get away with paying us barely anything.
Like, hello weāre out here doing the most, managing their businesses, doing admin tasks, designing their websites, running their social mediaābasically making their lives easier.
And they can only see our worth for $1. This is so sad.
Maraming clients na sobrang tipid at akala nila just because we're in the Philippines, weāll accept whatever low rate they offer.
Sa utak nila, āOh, living costs are lower in the Philippines, so I can get away with paying less.ā But ang hindi nila naiisip, it's not about where we liveāitās about the skills we bring to the table.
We're providing a professional service. Kaya nga they go to freelancing sites, di ba? Kasi they need someone whoās an expert in their field.
So bakit nila babaratin tayo? Lalo na tayo, na pinag-aralan at pinag-practice-an āyung mga skills natin!
Hereās where it gets even worse: if we accept these super low offers, weāre setting a standard.
Weāre telling clients na okay lang 'to, na our work isnāt worth more than a couple of dollars. Tapos, what happens next?
Clients start expecting the same thing from other freelancers. The whole industry suffers because weāre devaluing ourselves.
Parang domino effect, one lowball offer na tinanggap mo could lead to more clients thinking na ganun talaga ang bayad for Filipino freelancers. So paano na āyung mga susunod na VAs or freelancers trying to make a living off their skills? Struggle din sila.
I know itās hard, especially when youāre just starting out. I mean, sino ba naman ang ayaw ng client, right?
But believe me when I say, youāre worth so much more than $1 per hour.
Accepting those kinds of rates wonāt help you in the long run. Clients will start to see you as someone they can pay cheap rates for premium work. And thatās not how it should be.
Real talkāfreelancing isnāt easy. Weāve all been there.
But if we keep doing that, weāre selling ourselves short. Ang dami nating alam na tools, ang dami nating ginagawa for them behind the scenes, and that deserves to be paid right.
If we want to change this situation, we need to **start valuing ourselves. Hindi ka lang basta worker, you are a service provider. You have skills na pinag-practice-an mo, pinaghirapan mo, and they deserve to be compensated fairly.
We need to show these clients na hindi basta-basta ang ginagawa natin, and we should be paid what weāre worth.
Donāt be afraid to say no to offers na sobrang baba. I know itās hard, pero clients will always find a way if they really want to work with you.
Theyāll adjust their budget if they see your value.
We also should educate potential clients. š¤
Minsan, itās also about educating the clients. Some clients donāt even realize na sobrang baba na pala ng inaalok nila. You can explain to them why your rate is higher and justify it with the value youāre bringing to the table. Talk about your skills, your experiences, and how your work will benefit them in the long run.
Donāt just say, āI charge this because I want to.ā Say, āI charge this because I know my work will help you achieve your goals faster and more efficiently.ā
Big difference, di ba?
So if youāll ask how much should I charge as a newbie?
Honestly, iba-iba āyan per VA or freelancer, but let me give you some perspective. For general admin work, $5-$10 an hour is reasonable, depende sa level of experience mo.
Kung specialized tasks ka na, like social media management, web design, or SEO, $12-$25+ per hour is fair. Huwag mo iisipin na mataas āyun.
Kasi yung work na ginagawa mo has direct impacts on their business, and theyāre not just paying for your timeātheyāre paying for your expertise.
Sa mga aspiring VAs dyan š«¶š»
Letās stop tolerating lowball offers. We are skilled, hardworking, and we deserve to be paid right.
You have value, and you deserve to be compensated fairly.
Kailangan natin mag-set ng standards para sa sarili natin and for our industry. Kung hindi, tayo rin ang magsa-suffer in the long run. Weāre all in this together, and if we start valuing our work more, clients will follow suit. š
So the next time you see a client offering $1 an hour
Politely decline.
Youāre worth more than that. We all are.āØ
