Huring-huring Naton!
“Istoryahanay nga may punto, kag consuelo sa tawo. Wara duro gamo!”
Rumor has definitely a terrible reputation; however, it is still patronized by Filipinos either deliberately or unintentionally. It cannot be easily discarded due to its profound pe*******on into our culture that started even before the dawning of Spanish colonialism. Miagawaonons, honestly speaking, are not
iceably guilty with this kind of practice that had been long considered merely as the background noise of social interaction. We become the ringleaders at the same time victims in unfounded and opinionated conversations or pure speculations. From offices to neighborhood to public market, even in the church, everywhere, hearsay can transcend places as long as there are communities of interacting people because simply, we love the job of hearing and telling. Amidst the continuing patronage of hearsays, people are just often interested in knowing and criticizing other people’s behaviors rather than discussing other more significant issues that concern their community. With this observation, the Information Team shall be adopting the title “Huring-huring Naton!” for the official community radio program of the municipality with the catchphrase “Istoryahanay nga may punto kag consuelo sa tawo. Wara duro gamo”.
“Huring-huring” is a Karay-a word for ‘rumors’ that is believed by the aforementioned team that can grab the attention and curiosity of the public. In due course, the public will lead them to patronize the community radio program itself. To reinforce personal relationship between the program and the audience, the word “naton” is also included. Furthermore, to disengage the title of the radio program from its original negative connotation and to accentuate program’s policy goal and its specific objectives, the slogan “Istoryahanay nga may punto kag consuelo sa tawo. Wara duro gamo” will be officially used. This community radio program shall be considered development journalism in nature and may cover the following issues that will relate to the general public such as agriculture and food security, health, sanitation and medicine, employment, disaster reduction, education and literacy, technology for development, social practice and culture, environmental sustainability, gender equality, youth issues etc. (or any pertinent topic suggested by the audience). With this, the said program will have the ordinary people as its emphasis and is believed to stand as a reliable information provider, thus creating stability, partnership, harmony, and consensus for the development of the municipality as a whole.
