The Best of Cinema from the Regions : The Role of Regional Filmmakers in Troubling Times
Program 13 (of 13) : WE NEVER SAY GOODBYE TO HOPE
5 films / approximately 68 min
Dear Regional Filmmaker,
How have you been doing of late? I hope all is well with you and loved ones. I’m happy that despite the pandemic, you were able to collect your senses to create a film that deals with something we all desperately need these days: hope and redemption. How’s your financial situation? Out of job? Some of us too. Despite the problems, look at you. You were still able to shoot a film. That’s really kind of you. Giving us new material when all the big studios have ceased operating and all the theaters have closed down. You chose to do a film that’s not about controversy, violence, poverty or anything depressing. In a way, you don’t want to go the usual route. Nice, really nice. Did I tell you that your film made me smile in one way or the other and made me forget, at least for a bit, the problems me and my family is facing? I have always felt I am less appreciative of you especially during these times. Me and my friends would, most of the time, forget about you and your team. Most of the time, we never bother to read the credits. And yet, your work affects us. It makes us see ourselves. You tell the stories of common people like me that may be too boring for mainstream studios. You’ve given me a small voice out there in a vast field. You have inspired and touched me during times when I am so alone. I should let you know how much I appreciate you and your film. So allow me to say thank you at the very least. Thank you for your little stories that find simple audiences like me. I am looking forward to your next work. Please make some more. Something that has not been told by the popular ones. Meanwhile, we all continue to live by the day, looking for ways to face the music. Until then, thank you for never saying goodbye to hope.
Always,
Someone who loves Filipino Cinema
