โAli Dimaporo Gymansium, MSU - On February 26, 2024, the 60th Commencement Exercises of the 1st Semester, A.Y. 2023-2024 was held, with the theme, โMSU: A Beacon of Peace- Nurturing Minds in the Age of Industry 5.0โ. While showering with bright lights and feeling the beats of the kulintang, more than 1,400 graduands from the Batch Madasigon marched proudly in their academic attires and took a step for the next stage of their lives.
โTo impose the tight security policy, all the attendees went through a mandatory bag check by the PKF equipped with metal detectors at each entrance of the gymnasium with the aid of the university marshals and college marshals. This mechanism was implemented to ensure the safety of the graduands and their parents or guardians throughout the ceremony.
โThe procession began at 8:00 AM, showcasing the people behind the excellence of MSU- the faculty members, unitsโ directors, collegesโ deans, the vice-chancellors and assistant chancellors, the executive vice president, and other officials of the MSU System. Most importantly, the MSU System President Atty. Basari D. Mapupuno never failed to secure his presence on this prestigious occasion.
โFurthermore, Prof. Wendel T. Lontua from the College of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (CFAS) served as the Master of Ceremony, while Prof. Rogarciano C. Guinggue III from the MSU- Integrated Laboratory School was assigned as the university marshal for the event. The invocation was led by the chairperson of the Islamic Studies Department, KFCIAAS, Prof. Mohammad Hisham M. Mocsir. Following that were the University Band members who beautifully sang the Philippine National Anthem.
โOur very own MSU-System President Atty. Mapupuno left impressive remarks as he opened the program. Apart from introducing the quest speaker by himself, he took the lead in unveiling the meaning behind the Batch of this semesterโs graduands โMadasigonโ. โโฆIt seems to say, โmake way for me, let me pass throughโ. It can also be taken to mean โhigh-spirited or drivenโ, he articulated. Interestingly, he compared the guest speaker to Achilles, the Greek hero from the epic of the Iliad with whom the guest speaker shared his name, and revealed the various fields the guest speaker excelled in. The guest speaker, Asec. Achilles Gerard C. Bravo, welcomed and congratulated the Batch Madasigon. Asec. Bravo also reminded the graduands of the people behind their success- their parents, family, professors, and MSU, while encouraging all the graduands with his deeply uplifting life story.
โAfter the guestโs inspirational message, the presentation of the plaque of appreciation and token took place during the entrance of the Sining Pananadem, displaying the diverse and breathtaking culture and pride of the university.
โSucceeding this was the awarding of academic excellence awards comprising 13 Magna Cum Laude and 78 Cum Laude awardees. Outstandingly, 6 Cum Laude awardees from the College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) were given recognition as the college handed them their plaques for academic excellence during their Pre-commencement Ceremony last February 24, 2024.
โOur beloved CSSH Dean Dr. Monaimah G. Manabilang presented the 74 candidates for graduation from the CSSH. As per counting, there were 3 graduands from the program of Doctor of Philosophy in Language Studies, 3 graduands from the program of Doctor of Philosophy in Philippine Studies, 5 graduands from the program of Master of Arts in English Language Teaching, 3 graduands from the program of Master of Arts in Filipino (Linggwistika), 3 graduands from the program of Master of Arts in Filipino (Literatura), 4 graduands from the program of Master of Arts in History Plan B, 1 graduand from the program of Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies, 1 graduand from the program of Bachelor of Arts in Panitikan, 2 graduands from the program o Bachelor of Arts in History, International History track, 2 graduands from the program of Bachelor of Arts in History, Philippine and Asian History Track, 3 graduands from the program of Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, and 11 graduands from the program of Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
โFinally, the extremely awaited moment had come to reality. With smiles on their faces, each graduand turned their tassel, and cheers echoed through the gymnasium.
They were now officially graduates.
โThe class valedictorian of Batch Madasigon, Ali H.Y. Batugan presented his valedictory speech. โWe made it this far, and we can take it even further.โ, he emphasized. His speech motivated the graduates and caused tears among the audience as he expressed his genuine appreciation towards his family, friends, and most significantly, the entire university system.
โNorhana A. Saumay, the class salutatorian, led the pledge of loyalty to the alma mater, while Hon Renato D. Boniao, the President of the MSU Alumni Association, directed the oathtaking of the new MSU alumni.
Congratulations to our tigers from batch Madasigon! Your chapter as a student in MSU may have closed, but the next chapter of your life is just starting. Good luck on your future endeavors, and may your roars echo and shake the world you step into.
