Chef Sheilla Chef Sheilla offers wide variety of easy recipes from all over the world. Hi! I’m Sheilla Lopez. I am also a mom to an amazing little boy.

I am a Cuisine and Pastry Chef, Culinary Instructor, Chef Consultant, Food Stylist, Food Photographer, Recipe Developer, Food Writer. My love for the culinary arts began while I was a student at St. Paul University where I finished a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. I loved to cook, bake and whip up new dishes for my family and friends. I turned them into my guinea pi

gs and they were more than happy to take on the role. After finishing my degree in 2002, I worked for a 5-star hotel in Manila as F&B Cost Controller. I liked what I was doing but still, there was a void inside me and I grew restless. I longed to do something else…something that would make me live and breathe kitchen, food, spices, cutlery, pots & pans. I wanted to become a chef.

"A HOLIDAY NIGHTMARE: SCAMMED AT JFK AND THE DANGERS OF TRUSTING AIRPORT WORKERS"
My family and I arrived at JFK around 12:05 AM, exhausted after a long direct flight from Manila to New York. After dealing with immigration and waiting for our luggages, it was well over an hour before we finally got out. We’re a family of 11, and my taxi reservations from Booking was canceled because our flight was delayed. I even warned my brothers to stay away from anyone offering taxis, knowing many would scam us.

As we left the airport, I saw a guy in a black jacket with an American flag directing passengers to taxis. He seemed trustworthy, and I stupidly asked him if they accepted credit cards. He said yes, so I felt a bit safer. He walked us to two black large SUVs with drivers who looked like him. We split into two groups—six in one car and five in the other.

When we arrived at the hotel, I was just thrilled to see the rest of our family, who had arrived a day earlier than us. I asked the driver how much and he said $295 plus tip. I was shocked and speechlessI I asked also if he accept credit cards, and he said no. I handed him $300, turned to greet my family, and then he rushed back, claiming I gave him only $3. Confused and tired, I handed him another $300, laughing about my mix-up.

The second driver pulled the same trick. Again, I handed him $300 outside of the car. He told me to pay inside the car, so he got in first, and I followed him and sat behind him. He claimed I only gave him $3. I was so exhausted from the flight, I didn’t think clearly—I gave him another $300.

Once inside the hotel, amid hugs and joy, I suddenly realized something was wrong. I asked my friend if we could go to our room so I could count my money. I also realized that I don't have 1 dollar bills with me. I have $5,000 in $100 increments with me and my brother had given me $300 for his share. But when I counted, all I had left was $4,100. I had been scammed twice, believing I’d only handed out $3!

I couldn't stop crying. It’s the holidays, and it’s disgusting that people stoop to this for a living. I felt so foolish for being distracted and trusting those airport workers. This was my first time experiencing something like this in New York, a city I love. It’s infuriating and heartbreaking. If these scammers are immigrants or illegal residents, it makes me think about how they shouldn’t be allowed to exploit others. New York, you need to do something about this!

A valuable lesson learned is that no matter how busy or joyful you may feel while traveling, it’s essential to remain vigilant and aware of your surroundings. Staying alert can help you avoid pitfalls and ensure a safer, more enjoyable experience. Always trust your instincts and prioritize your safety over convenience.

Today, I lost a dear friend who meant the world to me. We have not seen each other since the pandemic but his impact on my life was profound. My dear , you always believed in my talent. You always encouraged me to show my true self to others because you believed in what was in my heart. You were an artist with a pure soul and a true humanitarian, dedicating yourself to helping those in need without seeking recognition. You would visit cemeteries to teach art lessons to street children and the homeless living under bridges.

Born into privilege, you chose a life of humility, reflecting the love and values instilled by your wonderful parents and family. I have never met a heart as kind as yours, and your partner Jetro has been a loving friend to me as well.

Robert was a truly unique artist who never boasted about his skills or claimed to be the best. Instead, he chose to share his talents generously with others, asking for nothing in return. His charitable endeavors were carried out in secrecy, known only to a handful of people who understood his quiet commitment to helping those in need.

Thank you, my dear Robert, for showing me what genuine kindness looks like. I will always cherish your friendship and the warmth you brought into my life. You were deeply loved, and during your battle with cancer, you had countless prayer warriors supporting you—a true testament to the goodness you shared.

Sometimes, I wonder why people with such good hearts leave us too soon, and I know only God can answer that. You accomplished so much good during your time here, helping hundreds, if not thousands, by sharing your blessings and knowledge. God is certainly pleased with you. Rest now, my dear friend, and go home to our Lord God Almighty. You have a special place in heaven, and I know Jesus will welcome you with open arms.
Mahal kita, Robert! Salamat sa pagmamahal na pinaramdam mo, mahal kong kaibigan. ❤️💔😥🙏🛐

First time at Universal Studios Japan, and we zoomed through Super Nintendo World, Harry Potter, and Minion Mayhem like kids on a sugar rush! 🎢🍭 Thanks to our Klook Express Pass, we traded 2-hour lines for 20-minute waits. From wizards to minions, it was like stepping into my favorite movies. ✨ 🇯🇵

This year’s trick-or-treat in our village was a blast! Instead of whipping up snacks, I decided to hire food carts—because who wants to cook when you can have hot dogs on wheels? Now the adults can chow down while the kids dive into their candy haul like it’s a treasure chest! Watching them have a blast is the real treat—who knew sugar-fueled excitement could be so entertaining? 🎃👻🕷️

I can’t help but wonder if I had chosen to be an investigative journalist, detective, or lawyer 20 years ago, would I still be alive? 🤣
Fighting for human rights in this country can be deadly. Many human rights lawyers have already lost their lives in the pursuit of justice. When will we ever learn if we keep voting for corrupt and evil politicians?
