Happy International Women’s Day! 💗Women Gamers are on the rise everywhere in the world. We’ve all heard the stereotypes around women playing video games.
“Girls don’t/shouldn’t play video games.”
“Oh, she’s a girl gamer.”
“There’s no way a girl can be that good.”
There’s kind of this expectation that I have to do well. I wouldn’t actually get on voice chat or make it known that I was a woman in online spaces because the vibe would change completely. I would hop in a voice chat and I would tell my team ‘Hey, we’re starting', and it goes from ‘oh you’re cool’ to ‘we’re going to lose the game,’”
Being a girl in the gaming community is more anxiety and rage-inducing than it should be. People automatically expect you to be bad at the game, or to only be there because of the guys or to be cute and get carried by the team like that. But times are changing. Women in gaming are the real game changers. Female gamers are paving their way to this male-dominated field. Games are now more accessible than ever, and can be played on mobile, PC, and console. The rise of gaming has also been accompanied by a notable increase in female gamers. It’s a growing consumer group interested in both playing games and gaming influencers. I’m glad to have found a community of women and men who empowers the women inclusion in this field. In celebration of International Women’s Day here’s a cheers to all the Female Gamers out there! May we continue to thrive and wear our Game Face On 😏
