In 2005 the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino recognized HIYAS for its contribution to advancing Filipino children’s literature. HIYAS was cited

for its promotion of the Filipino language through stories that have a clear and positive message and encourages godly values. Why choose HIYAS? HIYAS stories are written especially for kids: some endearing, some action-packed, some informative. Creative illustrations combine with fascinating stories to trigger a kid’s imagination. But at the heart of every HIYAS book is a Christian value essential to a child’s character development. Illustrated in stories, these essential lessons are easier to understand and apply. Writers for HIYAS should be members-in-good-standing of Bible-believing churches. HIYAS stories teach Christian values, obedience to God’s Word, or love for God and other people. Young children can get easily overwhelmed, especially when they are tired, hungry, sleepy, or troubled. Negative emotions or experiences can be distressing for children who do not fully understand what is going on. We need to provide them with a safe, loving, and stable environment. We can also help children cope with difficult feelings and experiences by teaching them some healthy and simple coping strategies at an early age.

These include:
1. Engaging in play
2. Singing and listening to relaxing music
3. Allowing them to cry
4. Dancing or doing simple exercises
5. Doing creative activities such as drawing, coloring, and so on
6. Taking a nap
7. Talking to a person they trust, such as a parent or caregiver
8. Praying to God

Another tip that might help children deal with sadness is reading a nice book. The Sad Cat is one such book that you can use to help kids deal with sadness.

Last July 4 and 5, OMF Literature and Hiyas supported the launch of APPLift Ang Galing, a reading program by the Association of Pangasinan Public Librarians Inc held at San Nicolas, Pangasinan. More than 700 students, educators, and librarians attended the 2-day event held at the San Nicolas Auditorium. Part of the festivities included storytelling sessions with Kuya Bryan, art activities, journaling workshops, and book talks and book signing sessions with award-winning author Luis "Tito Dok" Gatmaitan. Thank you to APPLI for inviting us to participate in this project. We would like to thank Project Kaakbay of the Unilab Foundation for donating books for the students, Rackey Candies for the snacks, and Mayor Dr. Alicia Primicias-Enriquez and the municipality of San Nicolas for supporting this launch event.
