𝑨𝒏 𝑨𝒃𝒓𝒖𝒑𝒕 𝑬𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒂 𝑭𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒉 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒕

To our valued readers, supporters, and most especially, the Beautiful Minds who made Eunoia's realization successful and impactful, it is with sadness that we announce to you the sudden mass resignation of the entire Eunoia Editorial Board and Staff as enjoined with the mass resignation of most of the Bukidnon State University Debate Vasrsity leaders and members.

The leaders decided to cancel the plan to join the fresh roster of Student Clubs and Organization in the upcoming Recognition, hence, the firm decision to resign. There is also the imminent inexistence of both the BDV and Eunoia due to being left with few and non-exec members.

We humbly apologize to the number one supporter of BukSU Debate Varsity which is our ever-nurturing and dynamic University President. The leaders recognized the fact that the recognition can't do any significant change to us as a student organization due to specific circumstances and constraints of some of the powers that be. Without adequate support (both financial and moral) the time, talent, and treasure that Eunoia members will render in the future will just become useless. Instead of incurring the rightful benefits, it will just result to unnecessary compromises such as academics and personal life being negatively affected.

However, this is not the end. The members who opted for greener pastures will move beyond the fences of the institutions to venture for larger opportunities that will allow us to learn, grow, and impact the lives of others properly without the types of stress that students like us should not be dealing with.

Once again, there is a high probability for the non-existence of BukSU Debate Varsity and consequently, Eunoia. Though such is not certain yet. However, the commitment to hone critical thinking through public discourse will be brought to a next level. Just keep thine senses updated.

[𝐄𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥] 𝑨𝑰? 𝑮𝒂𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒏?
𝓑𝔂 𝓚𝓮𝓲 𝓑𝓲𝓷𝓪𝔂𝓪𝓸

Kapuso, Kapamilya, at Kapatid; we understand that the Filipino are distressed by the potential of AI. Mapapalitan na ba tayo? Mawawalan na ba tayo ng trabaho? Will it someday become a
"Terminator" and damn us all? Our sentiments are valid. But recently, we’re faced with the question: will AI ever replace our journalists?

Sabi ng GMA network, these artificial sportscasters are only there to complement, and not replace the human casters. So, there you go! Problem solved, right? But the concerns over whether Kalad Karen, Bernadette Sembrano, and Kara David would be replaced still remain. Kung pwede palitan ang sportscasters, what’s stopping the networks from doing the same to their anchors? Before we jump to conclusions, we must understand what we're dealing with.

First of all, AI sportscasters Maia and Marco feel lifeless because they are not advanced
enough yet. When we advance our technology, of course, we get more realistic models. But I
think, before AI becomes indistinguishable from humans, we would have figured things out. However, just to tackle the “what if,'' I think we should ensure that AI will only report objective news.

Di ba, if an earthquake happens, it's not like iba-iba yung report. We would all be given the
same 4 Ws and H. The difference between human and AI in this aspect is the manner
through which emotion influences the report. While AI is not yet advanced enough to replicate emotion, we will always prefer human reporters. And when they do become sentient, we’ll at least have different perspectives by then.

Now, we talk about student journalists, independent casters, etc. First off, we must admit that we have a very ineffective education system. We are concerned over the future of
journalists, but that sentiment is outdated. In reality, many students take up journalism and
mass communication because they need a diploma, and they think it’s just an easy program. If we need a diploma just to get hired for anything, 'buti pa ‘yung course na kukunin natin ‘yung magsusulat-sulat, and talk-talk lang, tapos graduate na. So, in reality, only a fraction of aspiring journalists have passion for the craft.

So, is AI actually capable of replacing us right now? I say, no. They are currently terrible and
we would prefer to have humans do journalism work because they report with emotions and
empathy. But even when AI becomes even more advanced, we still have so much time to
create policies that would set limitations based on the interest of humanity. And if we want to
save journalism, we should make sure that the next generation of journalists actually care
about the craft.

Will it really replace humans? We think, no. They’re just tools and they possibly won’t even
work without human intervention. We don’t think GMA will decide on the spot without proper adherence to principles on journalism. At naniniwala rin kami na imposibleng mapalitan ng AI ang sportscasting since it’s a talent that requires human skill.

Our story starts with a certain Vice President who thought that it would be nice to have secret funds. She, along with Apo Lakay Jr., is known to be corrupt. But the people still voted them in. Now, because of everything that happened, the populace has become divided.

Some, stubborn, still refuse to acknowledge that they made a mistake, and still choose to defend an administration that is clearly failing its people. And some, suffering from their choice, express their deep regret for not heeding the warnings that were all around them. But whether or not you think the current administration is worth regretting, do you think it's actually okay for the Education Secretary to have confidential funds? What kind of education needs that kind of money?

Ladies, gentlemen, and everyone in between, the controversy in the Senate has gone too far. While the education of our youth stands at risk of being f*cked over by a corrupt agency, the senators we voted in, and the representatives who are supposed to represent our sentiment (e.g. Bersamin, Pangandaman, Teodoro Jr., and Quimbo) go either silent or negligent, complicit to the crime waiting to be committed. But this crime Fiona is planning to commit is a mere encore.

Apparently, between 13 and 31 December 2023, 125 Million Philippine Pesos has been spent on a world called Narnia. It has its own economic impacts, like rice costing 20 pesos (per cooked cup, of course). On a more relatable level, this looks like the budget cuts on educational institutions, trickling down to clubs and organizations, and most importantly, student governments. At its core, this just looks like significantly more volunteer work for student leaders because they can't even have snacks for the work that they do.

As students, we can't just stand by. Our priority is education, and that includes both academic, character, and skill development. How should we expect to grow holistically if Fiona uses our taxes on her lavish lifestyle instead of it being used for our benefit? I beg all of us to be vigilant. In the upcoming midterm elections, vote for accountability.

In the ever-expanding landscape of bureaucratic red tape, there exists a troubling phenomenon - one that goes unnoticed, ignored, and unaddressed. It's the infuriating sense of entitlement that often comes from those who wield the power to put their stamp on institutional letters. Let's not mince words here; it's nothing short of outrageous, at times bordering on the absurd.

Consider this: individuals entrusted with the responsibility of signing off on crucial documents somehow believe that their mood of the day should dictate the fate of those documents. Yes, you heard that right. While they ought to be consummate professionals during their working hours, capable of impartially evaluating the content and relevance of these letters, they instead choose to be capricious, erratic, and often downright infuriating in their demeanor. Rather than providing constructive guidance on what needs improvement or revision in a document, they opt for the condescending tone of a scolding parent. They don't educate; they berate. It's as though their personal vexations hold more weight than the merits of the document itself.

But that's not all. These self-appointed gatekeepers appear to have no regard for the painstaking effort that goes into crafting these letters. The hours of brainstorming, the meticulous selection of ideas that fit within the constraints of a budget, and the careful consideration of how these documents will benefit the institution and its projects - all these efforts go unnoticed and unappreciated. Furthermore, let's not forget that it's not just one person's job to prepare these letters. In fact, a single document may require the signatures of six to eight individuals, each one navigating the bureaucratic minefield in their own way. And the delay? Oh, the delay. Some of those tasked with signing these letters are so busy that they put the concept of "delay" to shame. Days turn into weeks, and sometimes, they seem to have no intention of getting around to it at all.

Now, put yourself in the shoes of someone who deals with this madness regularly. Wouldn't you be seething with frustration? It's not just about the stress; it's about the potential fallout of such infuriating behavior. Stress can lead to a host of serious health issues, and yet, it seems to be a non-issue for the heads of these institutions. To compound this maddening scenario, it's not a recent phenomenon. This issue has festered for far too long, a festering sore on the body of bureaucratic inefficiency. One would think that adults, especially those in positions of authority, would be adept at addressing such glaring problems. But alas, they seem content to ignore the mounting frustration, stress, and inefficiency that this entitled behavior creates.

So, let our frustration be heard loud and clear: this cannot, and should not, continue. It's high time for those responsible to recognize the gravity of their actions and their impact on those at the receiving end of their entitled whims. It's time for change, accountability, and a return to professionalism. Failure to do so only perpetuates this infuriating cycle, leaving us all in a state of bureaucratic exasperation.

[𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊] 𝑩𝒖𝒌𝑺𝑼 𝑫𝒆𝒃𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑽𝒂𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑴𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝑨𝒅𝒋𝒖𝒅𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒂𝒕 𝑺𝒄𝒊 𝑭𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝑫𝒆𝒃𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏

Bukidnon State University (BukSU) – Debate Varsity (BDV) members, through an invitation, served as adjudicators during the Science Fest Debate Competition organized by the Guild of Science Educators (GSE) on September 20, 2023 at the BukSU Casisang Annex Campus. The competition followed the Asian Parliamentary Debate format, featuring 4 teams: PPG, Rocketeers, Pakighimamat, and Purok 4.

Mr. Ceos Mark G. Pronto, a fresh graduate from BukSU and a former BukSU Debate Varsity (BDV) member served as the Adjudication core. He made a pivotal role in providing clear guidance to the BukSU science educator participants with regards debate technicalities and etiquette.

Nine members of BDV participated in adjudicating the opposing teams of each round. The first round centers on whether higher education institutions should deprioritize researches that are not urgent. In Room 1, the judges were Karlo Anselmo Binayao, Charles Jone Rosales, Vanessa Jimenez, Harvey Blaire Salva, and Christian John Sohento for Rocketeers vs. PPG. In Room 2, Ceos Mark Pronto, Dylan Gabriel De Asis, Brayer Brix Espares, Jannah Vebs Balaman, and Khaela Muanha served as judges for Pakighimamat vs. Purok 4.

The winners for the first round were Rocketeers and Purok 4, allowing them to advance to the Grand Finals. The losing teams proceeded to the Fighting for Third Category which tackled the relationship of science with embedded beliefs (i.e., creationism) in the society. The Grand Finals Motion focused on whether to embrace the Fermi Paradox, leading to a thought-provoking discussion among the participants.

In the Fighting for Third Category, Team PPG won and Claire Dane Mansaneros was recognized as the best speaker. Purok 4 secured victory in the Grand Finals, and Shadrach Gabriel Rabanes was recognized as the best speaker. Following the announcement of winners and special awards, certificates of recognition were then presented to the adges by the GSE.

"We are grateful to BDV for accepting our collaboration invitation. This event wouldn't have been successful without you," Mr. Kent John Benemirito, GSE president, said in his gratitude speech.

The collaboration between BukSU Debate Varsity and the Guild of Science Educators not only facilitated a successful event but also strengthened engagement and partnerships, setting the stage for future collaborations with various clubs and organizations.

𝓑𝔂 𝓒𝓱𝓪𝓻𝓵𝓮𝓼𝓼 𝓦𝓱𝓲𝓼𝓹𝓮𝓻

Student Clubs and Organizations play an indispensable role in one's college journey. Many would dare say that without them, College Life would be incomplete, or at the very worst, sterile. Beyond being an avenue for leisure and interests, they constitute a crucial element in a student's total human development.

Recently, there has been a call to expand the roster of the currently recognized Student Clubs and Organizations in Bukidnon State University (BukSU). Who would not want to double the numbers? It means more fun and opportunities. However, a challenge remains: the NO COLLECTION POLICY which is a consequence of the Free Tertiary Education Act. The policy prohibits clubs and organizations from generating funds either by collection or sponsorship.

BukSU does provide support system for such challenge, which is the budget allocation. Substantial relief comes from BukSU's annual budget allocation to the University Student Government, but the actual problem arises here. The allocated budget typically trickles down to the Student Body Organizations (SBOs) of each college only since the next administration of student leaders are included in the said budget. Consequently, clubs and organizations under the SBOs are left to their own resourcefulness or given less to nothing allocation. Despite having the opportunity to request budget allocations, derived from the developmental fee for particular activities, these clubs and organizations are turned down due to the lack of CHED endorsement or any related reasons. In addition, they experience significant reductions resulting to meager amounts.

Everyone envisions a learning environment where holistic growth properly flourishes without unnecessary difficulties. It is quite reasonable to conclude that the shortage of resources might be a key factor deterring many students from getting involved. After all, how can someone confidently decide to join a club or organization when they know it will likely affect their studies, and in addition, contribute to their burdens? Beside efforts to realize student involvement and entertainment through various means, student leaders are pressured to toil in finding the rarest and narrowest ways just to push through the planned activities.

In all fairness, the SMART BukSU initiative of the new administration has undeniably delivered concrete and beneficial outcomes for BukSU students, which is anticipated to continue in the years to come. Nevertheless, the problem at hand has been plaguing student clubs and organizations even before the new administration took office. It is of necessity to reclaim the times when holistic development and recreation were designed to benefit students, not the other way around.

Hence, the crucial question is: How can the university efficiently and decisively address this issue? If the current struggle persists, the role of clubs and organizations as solace of robust development amidst academic chaos, will inevitably fade into the past.

EUNOIA , the Official Publication of Bukidnon State University's (BukSU) Debate Varsity, held its pioneering Editorial Board Meeting on August 29, 2023, at the New College of Arts and Sciences Building. The Editorial Board, enjoined by BukSU Debate Varsity’s Prime Minister Mx. Kei Binayao, united their desire to accomplish their mandate of honing an intellectually competent BukSUans through a wide-range of inclusive and engaging activities in the forthcoming month of September 2023.
