After listing our basic non negotiables (the date, the vibe, and the number of our guests), we prioritized hunting for our venue, and here's why I think you should too:
1. It's difficult to book other suppliers if you dont have a date and venue. Its literally the first thing they ask when you approach them because they have limited availability as well.
2. Venue takes a significant portion of the budget, so knowing this cost upfront allows you to allocate funds for other wedding elements such as photovideo, catering, decor, and entertainment.
3. Your venue also determines which vendors and activities you can book -- for example: some venues dont allow lighted candles or fireworks, or they have an accredited-only-vendors policy, of which you'll have to choose from if you dont want to pay corkage
4. Lastly, your guests can prepare well in advance if they need to file a leave, book flights, or arrange a yaya for the kids and boarding for the furbabies.
So essentially, booking the venue first helps both you and your guests plan towards this important day more efficiently 🧾🤍✨️

Like most soon-to-be-weds, we didn't know where to start, and it got overwhelming pretty quickly. Heres how we eventually got our footing:
1. We sat down and described the kind of wedding that we each had in mind. Luckily, we both wanted the same things: a modern celebration with only our most favorite people.
2. Next, we determined our wedding budget. In Owen's country, there's no concept of Ninongs and Ninangs, so we started off without them in mind. We arrived at a number that we each are comfortable to never see again, so we can stay realistic when we start seeking out vendors.
3. Lastly, we identified who was going to lead the planning. Some grooms like to be fully involved, and most want to just be consulted. Agreeing on the planning dynamic early on helps lessen arguments and manage expectations from each other :) We definitely learned this trick from running businesses together 🙈
