BED Conducts Leadership Training for Student Leaders

News | Janice Lyka Hermedilla & Judiella Faye Manzano

The "Basic Education Leadership Training" (BELT) was held on September 2, 2023, in the KRU Building, Rooms 301-305, with the theme "Inspirational Leadership: Framework for Cooperative Excellence and Sustainability."

The three programs of the Basic Education Department - Elementary, Junior High School, and Senior High School, came together to organize a successful, effective, and productive leadership training for the CEFI Student Leaders. Ms. Therese Ambas and Attorney Sunshine Abcede were invited to be the honorable guest speakers. "Walang superhero, walang super powers, pero mayroong bayani, depende nalang kung ano ang pipiliin mo. Kung magiging bayani sa sarili mo o maging bayani para sa mga tao," Ms. Therese said. Indeed, with the "Seven Characteristics of a Young Leader" and this quote, we can inspire, serve, and lead others while becoming today's young leaders. They gave a remarkable and significant speech to our student leaders.

The foundation for cooperative excellence and sustainability was successfully established. Just like Atty. Sunshine once said, "Don't ask if it's difficult, ask if it's important." This perspective encourages individuals to prioritize tasks and decisions based on their overall impact, relevance, or significance, rather than the level of difficulty or effort required.

Indeed, the event was a success, a fruitful, efficient, and enjoyable experience for all of us. Youth are the future leaders, and today's student leaders are prepared and knowledgeable about leadership, cooperation, and discipline.

Grade 9 Students; To Victory—Science Investigatory Project Competition
News | Xylynd Par

In celebration of CEFIs golden anniversary,
The grade 9 students of the JHSP again showed a great knack for science as a few days ago, February 28, 2023, a Science Investigatory Project was set in place for students to show off their true intellect.

The grade 9 students Arguilla, Joaquin, and Santos showed great strength as they impressed the honorable board of judges Mrs. Mary Joy Laboc, Mr. Edgar Canales, and Ms. Melanie Balmes from the SHS department with their interesting studies such as creating glue from hibiscus, garotapple ointment, as well as lotion from aloe vera, malunggay and tomatoes.

This year's celebration is a special one indeed. These competitions are getting more academically challenging by the minute, but again as CEFIzens the grade 9 students truly paved their way and epitomize's this year's theme "To Victory!".

Crowned: Queen of the Night
Feature | Jesusa Predicala

One of the most anticipated events of the foundation week of CEFI had finally come! With their grace and character, the girls showcased their beauty, talents, and wit, which shows the power of CEFIZEN in terms of pageantry. As a part of the 50th founding anniversary, the Miss Young CEFI Pageant was held on March 1, 2023, and on March 3, 2023, in the CEFI gymnasium.

The Grade 10 representative from Brillantes, Stefanie Yvan Hizon, took the crown and title as Miss Young CEFI. Aside from this, she also won the Miss social media and Best in Swimsuit titles.

To decide who would win the crown, the top 3 finalists were asked the same question: "How can you add to the legacy that CEFI has established in the last 50 years?"

"The Golden 50th anniversary is now being celebrated and I am a part of it. I would like to take the opportunity to have part in this legacy. How? I would be part of the institution with carrying my core values as a CEFIZEN, the honor, scholarship, and service. And with this, I can say that I will be part of the legacy of the CEFI by being a role model to everyone because as a student, as a CEFIZEN, as a woman, I stand here, I am speaking here to be a role model. And I want to say and to advice you to know your worth because this is my advocacy: "Knowing Your Worth is Knowing Your Purpose.” Again, I am a CEFIZEN with a core values, honor, scholarship, and service. That would be all, thank you." Hizon answered.

News | Loren Rivera

Ms. Mercy S. Landicho, YES-O moderator, and the master of the ceremony led the program. It started with the doxology and singing of the National Anthem and Ode to Victory before the Officer-In-Charge, Mr. Harold R. Pintano, gave his warm welcoming remarks.

The judges were then introduced, including Mr. Samuel de Luna, the athletic director, Mrs. Cynthia Gabriel, the JHS Prefect of Discipline, and Mr. Axle Art D. Teves from the Senior High School program.

The program continued with its production number, narrowing the categories for shorts wear and creative wear, down to its advocacy statement, and was followed by an intermission number performed by Ms. Imari Zarsuelo and selected JHS students.

YES-O’s eco fashion show didn’t limit to the astounding and gorgeous candidates from different grade levels (7-10) but also featured 37 (22 female students and 15 male students) models to showcase their custom-designed tote bags. As a result, Grade 10 students, Kurt Nathan Javier, and Janiña Paula Quimpang, both from section Bautista, won the Best in Tote Bag in the Male and Female category, respectively.

A set of criteria was then subsequently created to finally wrap up the program. The students were debating who would win the wagers that they had already placed. The judges' verdicts were then made officially. For Female category, Catelyn Mae G. Albuen took home 3rd place, while Angela Nicole J. Pabello got 2nd place. On the other hand, Annica Jesher M. Mga matang ‘kay ganda at ngiti na kaibig-ibig

I once believed
Literary | Evergreen

I once believed I had found the love I had been searching for.
Like, it was just some object of rust and mistake
Waiting for the moment it begins to transform.
Back to it's glimmering, shiny, reflective state
Knowing it was dependant to your touch.

I once believed I had too much to lose if I lost you.
The creases of your palm emanated the warmest glow.
And it was only a matter of time until they ran cold.
Still, it’s something I would break myself all over again.
Just to remember how it feels to have you in my life.

I once believed I was just a wreck of all your burdens.
Please tell me, how much ache can the heart take
before it shreds to a million pieces?
I would glue every single shard back together
Even if my fingertips start bleeding until they’ve gone numb.

I once believed I started all of this mess.
This love that we had is nothing but a monument of the foundation of my blood, soul, and tears.
I watched as you tilted the podium and shattered it
pinning all the blame of the fallout all on my name.

Out of all the words that i have bought and believed,
One of them is a verse that I will hold on for dear life.
I deserve better for all the nothingness you gave to me.
I hope in all my spoken melodies of scream and agony,
You'd apologize for all the fury you had started in me.

Hatid Aral sa Kamusmusan 2023, a community extension service of the Junior High School conducted by Calayan Educational Foundation Incorporation was held last February 11, 2023. The program started at 8 AM and successfully ended by 11 AM. It was performed to promote, train, develop, and instill community involvement to our young learners.

Th event involved the club organizations; Gazette, and the Chess Wizards. Supervising and assisting the high school students were Sir Jeffrey Ricahuerta and Ma’am Mercy Landicho. Each club was given a specific subject to teach, whilst Gazette was assigned to teach English, like the CVC words to widen their knowledge about English and to help them improve speaking in English. On the other hand, the Chess Wizards, taught the learners how to count using basic numbers.

The Hatid Aral sa Kamusmusan, was a good way to be able to let the high school students be more involved with the community, they were able to experience first-hand what it's like to be a teacher while also being able to enjoy their time with the community . They gave hands-on activities and guided each child in answering each question.

Fading Away | Literary
-Anonymous

some things just don't stay forever,
even a friend, even a bird and its shiny feather.
even the word "love" itself,
even the dusts on your bookshelf.

metallic paint turns to rust,
your favorite food will spoil and rot.
like a friendship broken without trust,
and the flowers that bloomed, now died in the pot.

as years go by, feelings and people fade,
like dusts and ashes from the burning memory,
you once strongly held to like a jade,
and now you're left alone all lonely,
you kept the ashes safe from all cruelty.
but even the wind lost its purity.

you can hold on real tight,
to the person you once held beside you,
with feelings and love that feels right.
suddenly you wondered what is that brew,
the smell of something burning,
then you realized that person isn't there anymore,
because they already faded before.
