We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the BPA students of Pangasinan State University for their tremendous generosity! It made a meaningful difference in the lives of others, especially the children and elderlies at Missionary of Charity.

The YPAG-Bigay Gift Giving 2024 Event has been accomplished successfully through your heartwhelming support and kindness. You have shown your compassion through your in-kind donations. May the spirit of giving brighten your heart!

PYDC members representing 19 youth organizations were sworn in by SK Provincial Federation President Hon. BM Joyce D. Fernandez. The meeting focused on creating PYDC structure and committees, reviewing internal rules, and updating organizations on the Youth Registration Program.

Committees were formed through voting, with notable BPA students securing key positions:

'Tis the season to revel in the warmth of Christmas, where family gatherings, shared masses, and the joy of gift-giving paint the festive landscape of Filipino traditions. Amidst the elaborate customs, one cherished moment stands out—the eagerly awaited Noche Buena, or Christmas Eve.

Noche Buena is more than just a feast at midnight; it's a sacred occasion where loved ones come together to share a meal prepared with utmost care—a spread featuring ham, spaghetti, quezo de bola, salad, and bibingka. This magical moment transcends the mere indulgence of culinary delights; it's a reunion of hearts as family members unite, and relatives embark on joyous visits.

Tracing its roots back to the Spanish colonization during the late 17th century, Noche Buena found its place in Filipino culture as Catholicism took root. As Matthew Nicdao of the Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College notes in an interview with the New York Times, it became an integral part of our cultural tapestry. At its core, Noche Buena is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ—a poignant reminder of God's boundless love for humanity.

Yet, within the grandeur of this tradition, there lies a subtle truth captured by the sentiment, "Not all treasures come wrapped in glitter; some are hidden in the simplicity of a quiet celebration." The Extension Program entitled BPA Barangay Caravan 2023 with the theme, "Entering The New Era of Leadership: Reinforcing Local Governance Through The Changing Times" seeks to empower the barangay officials who recently assumed office after the 2023 Barangay and SK Elections.

The Extension Program equipped the barangay officials with two main topics: "Safe Spaces Act and Conflict Resolution" which was discussed by Atty. Benedict Fernandez, and "Types of Leadership Styles and Leadership Innovation" which was discussed by Mr. John Cyrl Miranda.

Alongside with their selected topics, a vibrant and interactive discussion blossomed, enriched by the profound insights and knowledge-sharing contributions from Dr. Rhodora E. Malicdem, Dr. Reynaldo T. Gelido, and Ms. Zshyna Mae V. Ahmed.

The event drew to a close, leaving the Barangay Officials of Pangapisan North filled with profound appreciation. The success of this occasion can be attributed to their wholehearted support, skillfully guided by the steadfast leadership of Pangapisan North Barangay Chairman Hon. Johnamer S. Viray.

The second year students of Bachelor of Public Administration conducted their team building activity initiated by 2nd year block D under their subject PA106, Leadership and Decision Making.
The event was composed of different activities which was competed by the four blocks of the second year students of BPA. The event's main objective is to build growth and camaraderie among the students of different blocks.

A heartfelt gratitude to PSU Medical Team for ensuring students' safety, and to Pangasinan Police Provincial Office who warmly welcomed the BPA students to their camp that served as the place of venue in conducting the team building event and for allowing us to use some of their facilities for the attainment of this event's success.

On the other hand, the YPAG Officers and Members extended their hands by serving as facilitators who assisted the participants on different activities of the event.

It was indeed one of the best part of college life; to build strong relationship with each other through camaraderie and togetherness to achieve certain goals and objectives.

Today, the Bachelor of Public Administration II-C class at Pangasinan State University- Lingayen Campus hosted a Team Introspection seminar. Themed "Raising Self-Awareness: Elevating Self-Leadership," the event aimed to empower student leaders of the Young Public Administrators' Guild.

The objectives included enhancing collaboration, providing self-knowledge tools, and promoting self-awareness for improved teamwork. The seminar covered topics like "Great Leadership Begins with Three-Self Commitments" and "Build a Tower, Build a Team."

Guided by Ms. Beverly Fernandez, PSU Lingayen's Guidance Counselor, and Mr. Jesus Dela Cruz, a Case load manager at DOH Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Dagupan City, the seminar provided practical insights and networking opportunities for the participants.

As the seminar concluded, the Bachelor of Public Administration II-C class anticipates a positive impact on the leadership skills and teamwork of the student leaders at PSU Lingayen.

On November 30, 2023, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, Local Youth Development Office, and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Pangasinan collaborated to host an Organization and Mandatory Training Program. The event unfolded at the Multipurpose Hall, PESO Building, Capitol Complex in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

The training, attended by various organization heads and representatives from across the province, covered crucial modules, including Decentralization and Local Governance, Sangguniang Kabataan History and Salient Features, Meetings and Resolutions, Planning and Budgeting, and Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards.

As an integral part of the event, the platform was set for the establishment of the Provincial Youth Development Council. This council, to be led by the SK Federation President and Vice President, will include nineteen (19) other representatives from registered youth organizations and youth-serving organizations.

During the election conducted as part of the event, four (4) Public Administration students emerged as successful candidates for LYDC Member seats. These students, representing diverse youth and youth-serving organizations, are Kenneth Rey Nimedez, YPAG President; Jastine Cruz, Editor-in-Chief of The Pillar Ductus Exemplo; Aira Bien Miranda, YPAG Counsel Coordinator; and Joshua Kyle Petete, YPAG representative for Junior Philippine Society for Public Administration, North Luzon Chapter.

The establishment of the Provincial Youth Development Council aligns with the mandates of RA 10742, which designates the council to serve as the core advocate for youth participation in nation-building and empowerment. Additionally, the council is tasked with finalizing the three-year Local Youth Development Plan in alignment with the Philippine Youth Development Plan and the development plans of local government units.

In the vibrant setting of the 2023 Philippine Society for Public Administration (PSPA) International Conference, Mr. Menard P. Nava, an esteemed faculty member of the Public Administration Department at Pangasinan State University – Lingayen Campus, actively participated as a dedicated delegate.

This year’s conference aimed to delve into the realms of innovative governance and futures thinking, aligning with PSPA's commitment to phronetic leadership, public service, and knowledge creation. Mr. Nava's active participation in diverse parallel sessions and research presentations not only showcased his commitment to staying abreast of governance dynamics but also highlighted his dedication to enriching education and community impact.

In a conversation, Mr. Nava shed light on his annual tradition of attending the PSPA International Conference since 2018. His primary objective remains gaining insights into the latest trends and developments in Public Administration and Governance, which he avidly shares with the community and university, particularly with students in the program.

As the conference centered on innovative governance and futures thinking, Mr. Nava affirmed his commitment to integrating these insights into his teaching, further enriching the academic landscape. The event served not only as a knowledge-sharing platform but also as a catalyst for Mr. Nava's continuous journey in advancing the field of public administration.

This year’s overarching theme is "Advancing Public Administration: Governance Innovations and Futures," which unfolded at the Mindanao State University (MSU) – General Santos City Campus and GreenLeaf Hotel on November 24-26, 2023.

The Dr. Telesforo N. Boquiren Convention Hall is filling up with Bachelor of Public Administration students as the student organization, the Young Public Administrators’ Guild, kicks off its first activity.

This year’s event carries the theme, “Balancing Students' Life Towards Mental Health.” Additionally, the event is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal No. 3, "Good Health and Well-being."

On Wednesday, November 22, Ms. Ma. Eloisa O. Pinto, Governor of the College of Business and Public Administration at PSU-LC Supreme Student Council, started the restoration process for benches assigned to each college and department.

Ms. Pinto was joined by Ma. Lourdes Borja, a YPAG Sentinel, along with Argie Neil Maneclang, Stephanie Abalos, and Joshua Kyle Petete, third-year Public Administration students.

The restoration efforts are a collaboration between the College of Business and Public Administration and the College of Industrial Technology.

Life is full of choices and pressures. It is an up and down journey that promises different challenges, also victories. As a student, it is a continuous chapter for us where there are times that we'll face heavy weighing of priorities and dealing with academic pressures.

We, the YPAG Counsel, together with the Young Public Administrators' Guild will guide you in scaling the proper weight of your priorities in life and will help you row the oar to go along with the pressures of the academic current in your life through the 𝗕𝗣𝗔 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯.

On International Journalist Day, we honor the courageous individuals who devote their lives to speaking truth to power and illuminating the most shadowy corners of the world. These often overlooked heroes play a crucial role in influencing our comprehension of global events, frequently putting themselves at significant personal risk. Their steadfast dedication to journalistic integrity stands as a fundamental pillar of democracy, ensuring accountability among those in power and giving a voice to those who may otherwise go unheard.

While we extend our appreciation to journalists across the globe, it's vital to recognize their substantial contributions throughout history. Whether it's exposing corruption or documenting human rights abuses, journalists have played a pivotal role in promoting transparency and challenging established norms. Beyond shaping public opinion, their efforts have been a driving force for significant change, acting as a catalyst for social justice movements worldwide.

𝐓𝐎𝐃𝐀𝐘: 𝐅𝐋𝐀𝐆-𝐌𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐒𝐓

The 𝐃𝐮𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 showcased their boundless creativity at the Flag-making Contest, an event organized by the 𝑲𝒂𝒑𝒊𝒔𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒏 𝒏𝒈 𝒎𝒈𝒂 𝑴𝒂𝒈-𝒂𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝒏𝒈 𝑨𝒓𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑷𝒂𝒏𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒖𝒏𝒂𝒏 in celebration of the 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔. Held at the Ground Floor of the Technical Vocational Training Center, this gathering became a stage for creativity and artistry.

Witness the creativity as the Visual Artists, presented two groups representing the College of Business and Public Administration, took the challenge at the Art Synergy contest.

The province of Pangasinan paid tribute to the late Speaker Eugenio Padlan Perez on November 13, 2023, as the community commemorated his birth anniversary and remarkable contributions to the nation's history. This special non-working holiday in Pangasinan, declared under Republic Act 6721, serves as a testament to Perez's unwavering dedication to public service and his profound impact on the lives of Pangasinenses.

Eugenio Perez, known for his steadfast commitment to public service, served as the Speaker of the House of Representatives and was a driving force behind many landmark legislations. His dedication and passion for the welfare of the people still resonates today.

The members of our publication share their perspectives and hopes with the Filipino people, urging a commitment to using their votes wisely for the betterment of our communities in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

As per the staffers, when voters make informed decisions, it assists in selecting candidates who possess the knowledge and qualifications to govern effectively at the grassroots level. This, in turn, leads to improved public services, community development, and local problem-solving.

This crucial electoral event in the Philippines allows voters to elect officials at the grassroots level, where barangays represent the smallest administrative divisions in the country, often compared to villages or neighborhoods, and Sangguniang Kabataan refers to the youth council.

The significance of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections in 2023 lies in providing local communities with the opportunity to choose leaders who will directly influence the development and governance of their areas.

On October 20, 2023, The Pillar, a student organization publication of the Young Public Administrators Guild, held an online onboarding session via Google Meet for its new staff members.

The meeting, attended by eight (8) participants, focused on the importance of journalism in today's world and the roles of student-journalists in maintaining transparency and accountability.

During the start of the session, Managing Editor, Joshua Kyle Petete stressed the significance of student and citizen journalism in the contemporary landscape. He discussed the responsibilities and roles that come with reporting the news.

Jastine Cruz, The Editor-in-Chief of The Pillar, led the onboarding, covering topics such as the upcoming 4th issue publication and the specific duties and functions of new staff members within the organization.

This onboarding session reflects The Pillar's commitment to fostering the development of emerging stud-journos, who will have a crucial role in informing and engaging the public.
