𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 | Enrollment Extension for the 2nd Semester, School Year 2024-2025

Due to multiple suspensions of work and classes during the enrollment period from January 2-11, 2025, caused by inclement weather and technical issues affecting the online registration system, Office Memorandum No. 8, Series of 2025, hereby declares the extension of enrollment for all levels, including tertiary and graduate levels, until January 18, 2025.

Furthermore, in light of the suspension of face-to-face classes on January 13, 2025, in adherence to Albay PDRRMC-APSEMO Advisory 2025-03, faculty members are advised to conduct online asynchronous orientation for their respective classes.

𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 | Suspension of Work and Classes on January 13, 2025

In line with PDRRMC-APSEMO Advisory 2025-03, Acting Governor and PDRRMC Chairperson Glenda O. Bongao has declared the suspension of classes at all levels, both public and private, in the Province of Albay on Monday, January 13, 2025. This suspension is due to the scheduled "National Rally for Peace" organized by members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo.

To address anticipated disruptions in public transportation (PUVs/PUJs), schools are instructed to implement alternative learning modalities. Regular face-to-face classes will resume on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.

Additionally, employees affected by transportation disruptions may be allowed to work from home at the discretion of their respective management.

In response, Bicol University will adhere to the advisory of the local council. Please wait for the official memorandum for further details.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the untimely demise of 𝗝𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗼 𝗔𝗹𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗮, a Freshman of the program, Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, from the College of Business, Economics, and Management - Bicol University.

Jude was a fellow Masbateño from Baleno, Masbate. BU Lawod, along with the Masbateño community in Bicol University, extends our condolences to the bereaved family.

𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 | In view of the suspension of classes in all levels due to inclement weather issued by the Chair of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), the Office of the President of Bicol University has issued Memorandum No. 04, s. 2025, suspending classes and work starting 12:00 NN on January 8, 2025, in the university. However, activities, including those related to Institutional Accreditation (IA), will continue as necessary.

Enrollment activities will also proceed until 12:00 NN only. Students and personnel are advised to prioritize safety and follow precautionary measures.

Kung wala ako sa paaralan, saan kaya ako dadalhin ng aking munting mga paa? Sa tahimik na sulok ng aming bahay, marahil ay nasa gilid lamang ako—nagmumuni-muni ng mga bagay na hindi ko mawari kung saan nagmumula. Sa halip na hawak ang bolpen at papel, maaaring hawak ko ang oras—oras na punong-puno ng pag-aalala at pag-iisip kung kailan ko muling matatamasa ang maging payapa.

Kung wala ako sa paaralan, siguro nasa isang tulay ako—sinasalubong ang sikat ng araw at simoy ng hangin. Ngunit, parang hindi ko mahanap ang tamang direksyon. Ang bawat hakbang ay tila walang patutunguhan, puno ng pag-aalinlangang ako’y hindi na makabalik.

Nasaan kaya ako kung wala ako sa paaralan? Marahil ay nasa isang lugar na punong-puno ng mga katanungang walang kasagutan. Subalit, alam kong ang tanging sagot sa mga tanong ay ang mga salitang “Padayon” at “Laban lang.”

The “Tsinelas Leadership” Seminar, hosted by BUJMRIGD third-year Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA) students under the subject Leadership and Decision-Making, was held last Saturday, December 14, 2024. The seminar discussed ethical considerations in leadership and decision-making to promote strong relationships and a positive organizational culture, ensuring long-term success. With the theme “Enhancing Leadership and Decision Making through Knowledge and Empowerment,” the event was held in the CTE Hall of Bicol University and was attended by first- and third-year JMRIGD students.

The registration started at exactly 8:00 in the morning. The seminar officially began at 8:30 with the opening remarks by Mr. Dave Russell Abanes, the third-year Year Level Officer (YLO) President.

This was followed by the introduction of the first speaker, Atty. Ma. Lovella Castro, Chief of the Management Services Division of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, Albay. Atty. Castro’s discussion started at 8:48 AM and ended at 10:45 AM. Atty. Castro shared insights on becoming ethical leaders and challenged students to step into government service, saying, “We’re the ones building the government we want—ethical leaders and public officials who shall make ethical decisions. We want to replicate ourselves. So, please join me in the government service. That is my challenge to you, my dear students. Are you ready to take the challenge?” She also stressed the importance of the ABC—Attitude, Behavior, and Character, pointing out that while excellent grades are appreciated, it is one’s values and principles that define an ethical leader.

Following the first speaker, Atty. Ma. Lovella Castro, the second keynote speaker, Dr. Flored Jay N. Medina, highlighted that “The world is a big place, and it’s full of opportunities to learn from different people, backgrounds, and cultures. Embrace diversity, and you will see the richness it brings to life.” He emphasized that the more diverse the team, the more creative the solutions. Additionally, Dr. Medina delivered an insightful discussion about the importance of diversity and its positive impact on workplaces, leadership, and governance, as well as topics about gender equality and how inclusive leadership can help reduce poverty. He also discussed how good governance and urbanization play a role in building sustainable cities and communities.

Before wrapping up, a leadership activity “Pass the Message” was conducted to promote teamwork among participants. The seminar concluded with inspiring closing remarks from Prof. Jovelle L. Duana, Subject Professor of the Leadership and Decision-Making and Associate Director of BUJMRIGD, leaving participants with valuable takeaways.

The seminar ended with the powerful reminder that ethical leaders consider the needs of their employees and communities, highlighting the essence of servant leadership in creating a positive and sustainable impact.

𝗛𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗦 | The Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA) fourth-year students, in partnership with the Bicol University Robredo Institute Students Organization (RISO), organized a seminar themed "Good Governance and Beyond: Key to Effective Governance and Informed Voting," held on December 11, 2024, at the BU College of Science Function Hall.

With the title "J.E.S.S.E. On the Go," which stands for Just, Equitable, Sustainable, Sensitive, and Effective Leadership, the seminar featured insights from Mr. Erwin Jim Seludo, Director of Internal Affairs at Sirang Bicol Coalition of Youth Leaders. It addressed key issues such as combating fake news, becoming informed voters, and fostering leadership skills to inspire change.

The talk highlighted the importance of inclusivity and staying connected to reality. Inclusivity involves active engagement, and engagement entails participation, which can be demonstrated through wise and informed voting during elections. Additionally, it emphasized that being informed voters and active citizens is not just a responsibility but an opportunity to redefine Filipino identity and contribute to shaping a better Philippines.

In a promotional message, Dr. Rosemarie TY-Frias, Ph.D., said that "youth is not the hope of the future but the hope of today" leaving a powerful reminder that making a difference starts now.

Dr. Flored Jay N. Medina, the second speaker, began his presentation at 10:30 a.m. at the BU College of Education, CTE Hall. Dr. Medina is presenting his insights on how embracing diverse perspectives can lead to more equitable and thriving communities. His presentation, a key element of the "Tsinelas Leadership" theme, emphasizes the importance of relatable and accessible leadership styles.
