Green Valley College has paved the way to fill in the gaps of difficulty readers in Marbel 8 Elementary School, Bario 8 Koronadal City, from July 19 to August 8, 2022, through a collaboration where the college's BEED and BSED-English students volunteered and attended to 3-5 pupils.
Twenty-five students volunteered from GVCFI to render their services in helping the public school teachers teach reading to learners, especially those with difficulty reading and understanding comprehension.
The volunteers patiently assisted students for 3 hours every day from July 19 to August 8, 2022. The said program addresses the gaps on the issues regarding the non-readers of the said school. Berly Andres, one of the volunteers, has shared her experience. "The three students assigned to me are all good at reading; it is just that I need to teach them how to read fast and understand the text. Also, as a volunteer, I enjoyed teaching young learners because it inspired me to become a teacher," she added. Likewise, another volunteer, Sarah Jane Hernandez, shared her experience. "I encountered two different types of learners: some are already good readers, some are not.
However, I enjoyed teaching them and will love to do it in the future." The same goes with the result of an interview with other volunteers; most answered how they were inspired by teaching learners and how it made them realize their calling as future educators. The said program was joined by the BEED Program Head, Jovee Arriane Pormento.
DepEd enhances the Brigada Pagbasa Program, which aims to help students struggling to read. This program, as Undersecretary Umali said "it's like a Brigada Eskwela Program so the private sector, our volunteers with the private sector instead of volunteering to clean, will now volunteer their time to teach children."
Likewise, Vice President-Secretary Duterte said that "The success of the Department's plans and programs shall now be completed by an unwavering love for the profession of teaching Filipino children, our children, the future of our nation, with the support of the national government and the Basic Education Development Plan 2030 serving as our guide."
Green Valley College's willingness to participate in any government or private program started when the school began its operation. Students and teachers exert their effort in participating in any program.
