โ ๏ธTHE MISCONCEPTION ABOUT SANJIโ ๏ธ
"Why would he beat Luffy up that much??He's taking it too far!"
"He should've teamed-up with Luffy and beat up Germa!"
"If Zoro sees this, no doubt he's gone for!"
"He is NOT trusting his captain and crewmates AT ALL!"โผ๏ธ
I bet you've noticed too, lately we've been seeing stuffs like these circulating around One Piece community groups. Not only that some would throw hate on Sanji for "going too far" (which he did, tbh) and also comparing him with Zoro, that if Zoro was in his place, he couldve not done this and that, or if Zoro was there, things wouldn't turn out that way, etc.
Well, first off, I'm gonna leave out Zoro on this, since he was not at the scene. Sure, Zoro was the kind of first mate a captain could have, a loyal crewmate like what we've witnessed from the Thriller Bark "Nothing Happened" incident. However, i dont see the point why I should compare the two of them superficially; that Zoro trusts his captain more than Sanji does just because of this specific incident. But in fact, i believe that if ever he was there...I dont think he'd cut Sanji down...not until Luffy says he'd do so. Somehow, Zoro's not that dumb to not see Sanji's resolve on that matter.
What Sanji did, I see it as his way of protecting the whole crew, plus the other people he cared about...and I'd like to elaborate on this for the next paragraphs. (Yes, this is a long post)
Like what I said, Sanji DID went too far. At least I could agree on that. Not only he went too for on beating up Luffy but also he went even to the extreme of throwing out his dreams. Was that necessary? Well, think how stubborn Luffy is, and Sanji knows that fact too well. What would Sanji do to drive Luffy away if not going that far beating the hell out of him? I bet a "shooo-shooo" wont do that. Lol. We all know Luffy is one hell of a stubborn head, I don't think he'd listen to any negotiations. He didnt even took a single word from Sanji seriously. As expected from our captain. Now for this, what would Sanji do? What else? but to resort to (very) extreme measures. He wanted them to hate him that's why he even insulted them as "lowly pirates" aside from beating up his captain who wasnt even lifting a single finger at him. And, imagine Sanji saying something that he would never ever say, "I'm a prince of Germa...blah, blah" From this I could imagine,Sanji deep inside wanted to puke with his guts out for saying something abominable for him. Phew. We all know how he hated his family, so...that's one hell of a sacrifice he did there.
"Can't he just team-up with Luffy or with his friends and fight against Germa?" well, honey, it's not that simple. If we analyze the situation, it's not like Sanji had much choice.And....it's not like they're only up against Germa, we have the Big Bad B**h Mom. lol The moment Sanji turns the deal down, everyone at Baratie will be done for, plus BM pirates would certainly go after the Strawhats(which anyway they did at the end, because..the plot). I doubt there'll be anything the Strawhats could do if assasins from Germa and probably BM's underlings would go after Zeff's and everyone else's lives at East Blue considering that they're presently at the New World. ๐คท Thats why it's hell or high water for Sanji. He can't just run with the SH away from Germa and BM that easily. Baratie people's lives are on his hands and so are the Strawhat's. Too bad, he hoped that much and it turns out it was all a lie.
I might also add this unpopular opinion, Sanji might also be considering their plan of going for Kaido's head and he doesn't want to mess with the original plan, and that plan doesn't include dealing with another Yonko. Geez, i could only imagine Tra-guy face-palming.lol
Sanji was prolly thinking that dealing with 2 Yonkous was too much for their Ninja-Minks Pirate Alliance, which it really is (and which is happening rn lol)Think about worst case scenario. Hmmm
With all that being said, I could not simply underrate or belittle Sanji's acts of sacrifice. Whatever happened there, for me, just showed how far would Sanji go for the sake of the whole crew and for other people he cared about. Besides, I wouldn't question how Oda turned this scene to be, or will I suggest a better plot twist for it. lol. See how Oda managed to turn the tables from what Sanji thought of as the worst case scenario---in which the SH somehow actually gained these:
1. Experience dealing with a Yonkou(warm-up before facing Kaido)
2.Additional alliances
3.Luffy improving his observation haki (in his fight with Katakuri)
4. Poneglyph copy (special mention to Brook)
5. Zeus for Nami (lol) , if you may add that up
And yeah, I rest my case here.๐
