In a nostalgic reunion, the pioneering graduates of the West Visayas State University’s (WVSU) Mass Communication Batch 1984 gathered with Batch 2024 for a Town Hall Meeting at MC1 of College of Communication yesterday afternoon, January 22.

Amidst shared anecdotes and laughter, the pioneers imparted valuable insights gained from decades in the field. Discussions ranged from the evolution of media landscapes to the transformative impact of technology on communication practices. The exchange provided the graduating class of 2024 with a rare opportunity to learn from the wisdom of those who paved the way.

The town hall meeting also fostered networking opportunities, encouraging meaningful connections between the generations. Alumni from 1984 shared stories of their own challenges and triumphs, creating a bridge that transcended the years.

Bag-o nga mga kinaalam, masadya, kag isa ka memorable nga eksperyensya sa huna-huna sang tanan. Ini pila lang sa mga tinaga nga mahimo masambit sang 60 tanan ka mga senior broadcasting students sa ila nangin 5-day Media Tour.

Matapos ang isa ka dekada, gintugutan na sa liwat ang pagpatigayon sang Media Tour 2023 nga nagalaom mahatagan sang dugang nga media industry exposure ang fourth-year students pinaagi sa paglibot kag pagbisita sa mga historical landmarks kag media-related institutions sa Metro Manila kag Southern Tagalog halin Disyembre 16-21, 2023.

Lakip sa mga lugar nga ila ginbisita amo ang Intramuros, Bahay Tsinoy, Manila Bulletin, Ateneo De Manila University's Jesuit Communication Foundation, Aguinaldo Shrine, Bahay ni Rizal sa Calamba, Laguna, National Museum of Fine Arts and Natural History, University of the Philippines Diliman - College of Mass Communication kag Subic Bay.

The Department of Agriculture Western Visayas (DAWV) and the West Visayas State University - College of Communication (WVSU - COC) officially launched the DA-COC Multimedia Studio this morning, September 22.

With the generosity and effort of the DAWV, they were able to donate a total of 960,000 pesos worth of multimedia equipment such as iMac and RODECaster digital audio mixer to the college.

“𝘈𝘴 𝘸𝘦 𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘢𝘳𝘬 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘫𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘺, 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘶𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵, 𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘦, 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮, 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦,” said Dr. Ian C. Espada, Dean of WVSU-COC, who also headed the said event.

The launch was attended by James Earl Ogatis, Chief Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Section; Garetj Bayate, Senior Agriculturist and Agricultural Program Coordination Officer; Cora Buala, Public Relations Officer II; Chrystal Almendralejo, Project Development Officer of Special Project Office; and Shane Natividad, Admin Staff. The other attendees were also composed of the COC Faculty, Prof. Mary Kareen Gancio, Broadcasting Division Chair; Prof. David Arthur Quimpo, DYWV Station Manager; Mil Joe Cabag, Adviser of Broadcast Guild; as well as Broadcasting, Journalism, and Development Communication students.

According to COC alumnus James Earl Ogatis, the college must utilize the COC Multimedia Studio to develop the potentials and capacity of the students. Ogatis also emphasized that COC students should not only focus on their academic excellence but also strive to look back at the college by offering what they can help for the next generations of communication students, faculty, and staff.

Mary Kareen Gancio, on the other hand, said that the resources from DA have also given an opportunity to contribute to the success of COC.
