Feeling overwhelmed by social media?

Don't let these 5 mistakes hold you back! Here's what you should avoid in posting content and social media management:

1. Ignoring audience feedback: responding to your audience builds connections! Make sure to always check missed comments or tags.

2. Neglecting Call-to-action (CTAs): Unclear CTAs can lead to wasted interactions. Make sure to tell your audience exactly what you want them to do!

3. Ignoring platform differences: Yes, I know we tend to post the same content to all platforms for consistency. But consider a different approach to posting content on social media, whether it be picking the best time to post on each platform. All social media platforms have different trends after all!

4. Ignoring community building: Don't just promote content, leverage your following by nurturing a community! This helps create loyalty to your brand and lead to more engagement.

5. Overlooking UGC: By leveraging user-generated content, you are telling your brand's story and helps your community build on itself! Including your customers in the growth of your business makes them feel they are a part of something bigger, which makes your interactions more dynamic and real.

Okay so story time!

About 5 months ago I lost my job, the company I had previously worked with decided to lay me off without prior warning. Fast forward 2 months after, I got another corporate job where I was a social media manager for a real estate company. Things were going smoothly at the time, but It didn't take long for me to quit because it wasn't really fulfilling my career goals. Or so I thought. I was always planning on leaving that company, but one thing that made me regret leaving early was because I didn't have a backup job at the time.

I was depressed for months. I kept applying for freelance jobs, sadly, despite my skill set, I was always cut short by potential clients.

But because I really wanted to do freelance, I didn't give up. I kept sending hundreds of applications online, got ghosted by potential clients multiple times. Despite that, I kept pushing myself, the only thing I could do was to upskill, and that's what I did.

Fast forward today, and everything I did paid off! I got my first client!

That's why I'm giving this reminder to you my dear SMMs, your freelancing journey might start slow, but trust me that you'll get there eventually, so long as you don't give up!

I was hesitant to share my journey with ya'll, but I hope this inspired you to keep doing what you love in one way or another!

My interest in social media management started when I had my on-the-job training at Pixzel Digital. Before that, I was a freelance graphic designer who worked for a remote company.

During my training, I was assigned to manage a tourism page called 'Bisita Iligan', which promotes local tourist spots and businesses within Iligan City. I am forever grateful to Pixzel for sparking my interest in this field. Seeing how successful the campaigns I made for them made me realize how big of an impact social media can have on promoting and helping businesses grow. Since then, I have been constantly seeking improvement in my graphic design and social media management skills.

Fast-forward to August 2023, when I first started working with Skywalker Digital Solutions as a digital assistant, where my tasks included lead generation and outreach. I was able to adapt to the fast-paced work environment where we had to meet deadlines for different clients’ needs. Although my tasks weren't mainly social media management, my interest in pursuing a social media management career has never dwindled. I am thankful that I was able to acquire new skills with them, such as data entry, lead generation, email outreach, and virtual assistance.

After that, I had the opportunity to manage the social media presence of a local real estate company named Bukidnon Lands Development Corporation, where I managed the page of one of their projects, Tierra Verde Homes. I helped them increase their follower base and boost website traffic through strategic content creation. Although it was quite a short project, I was able to grasp more about what social media management is.

That's when I knew I wanted to venture into social media management and share my expertise, experiences, and services with other clients, entrepreneurs, and business owners in need.
