Rejuvenating sets have made it easier for us to get good skin care without breaking the bank. These products are targeted for common skin concerns like pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, acne scars, uneven skin tone, large pores, sagging skin, and other related problems. These sets have been available for a while now and some of us are already familiar with their effects. But for those who are only beginning to use a rejuvenating set, here's what to expect, how to deal with them, and a few tips to help you get started.
✨ Do a patch test first
Before trying any new product on your face, rejuvenating or not, conduct a patch test first. If you have sensitive skin, and even if you don't, certain formulations or ingredients (natural or otherwise), can irritate even the normal skin types.
Apply a tiny amount of product to the side of your neck. There should be no other products on the skin so that you can do a proper test. Note that rejuvenating products normally cause temporary sting and redness. If after 24 hours, you don't see any other reaction, you may continue with the product.
✨ Follow the instructions
Be sure to read and follow the instructions written on the packaging of your rejuvenating set. These instructions were specifically made for rejuvenating products as they contain stronger formulations and ingredients than those used in ordinary skincare ones.
The promised effects of rejuvenating products greatly depend on how you apply them.
✨ Expect some peeling!
First-timers may be shocked one day, when they wake up and see their skin peeling. It's normal. When your skin peels, it means that your old skin is being exfoliated and is giving way to a new and revitalized one. Sting, redness and itchiness are common with micro-peeling. You may experience them, you may not. Results vary.
But if the peeling, sting, and redness become too much for you, skip the toner, soap or facial cleanser for 1-2 days. Use only water when washing and gently rub your face to remove the peeling skin. After doing this, you'll notice that the peeling, sting, and redness have decreased. Bye bye, dull skin!
✨ Give time and space... and air!
While some people can tolerate the sting brought by most rejuvenating products, you can actually lessen/avoid it. One tip is to apply products in front of a fan or turn on your AC unit for a bit to help lessen the stinging sensation.
In the late afternoon or evening, especially when you get home from outdoors, wash your face with a soap or facial cleanser. Let dry and move on to your usual evening activities. Then you can gently apply the toner, serum, and night cream before going to bed. A minimum gap of 2 hours allows your skin to reproduce oils long enough to give a soothing effect and reduce the stinging on your face.
✨ This is zit!
Breakouts are normal the first few weeks of using rejuvenating sets. It's a sign that the products are really going deep into your pores to get rid of underlying impurities. Don't worry. Your toner, serum, and cream will dry those pimples out.
When taking a 1-2 day break to reduce peeling and redness, use a cotton tip applicator and apply rejuvenating products on the affected areas. Keep using the set on your pimples.
✨ Sunblock is key
Applying sunblock is definitely one of the things that you SHOULD be doing on the daily basis, even at home and even when it's overcast. Although the sun may not be very visible, up to 80% of its rays are still being absorbed by our skin. Wearing sunblock helps prevent damage from harmful UV rays that can decrease skin’s elasticity and cause wrinkles, sagging, discoloration and dark spots over time.
And on the process of exfoliation, skin is more susceptible to damage, that's why sunblock is very important! Reapply every 2 hours when outdoors.
✨ Stick to one
When using a particular rejuvenating set, stick to its products and refrain from using other products from other rejuvenating sets.
Combining multiple skincare products may only result in skin irritation. If you need to use moisturizer, use a mild one from your trusted brand.
✨ Do not overdo
Remember to treat your skin gently. Apply the products lightly to your face especially around the delicate eye and mouth areas (DO NOT RUB, DO NOT OVERAPPLY, especially the toner). You may take a break from these products in between use, if needed.
Skin rejuvenating sets typically last a month only. After this period, rest your skin for a month and resume with your normal routine or switch to something milder for maintenance. You may resume the application of rejuvenating products after 30 days of rest.
✨ A couple more don'ts
- Don't go out in the sun as much as possible. - Never scratch your skin when it feels itchy. - - Don't pick at any of your peeling skin. Old skin will shed off by itself.
- Refrain from using facial scrubs at this time.
Remember, when using rejuvenating sets, your skin is at its most delicate phase. Anything harsh you do with it, may cause effects we wouldn't want on our face.
