Last night:

I’m a millennial and I am blessed to be one, pero kung papipiliin ako anong panahon mas magandang mag-aral, pipiliin ko ang NGAYON. Masasabi kong maswerte kayong mga GEN-Z at GEN-ALPHA.

We were so disconnected from the rest of the world. We grew up na ang kuryente ay sa gabi lang and brown-outs could happen for days and even more than a week. Ang ilaw ko sa pagbabasa ng libro, which I loved doing as a child, ay kandila lamang. Sulat-kamay at kung swertihin ay type-written ang maipapasang project.

Nong panahon namin, kailangan namin magbabad sa library to do our research from OLD and ANCIENT books. To be updated with “current events”, we could also get info from outdated newspapers and magazines in the same library.

To advance our learning in math, sometimes we needed to go to our teachers’ home or office to seek help.

Science has been my all-time favorite, I dreamt of being an astronaut, a doctor, a scientist of all sorts but circumstances were different for me which led me to being a computer scientist, which I also love.

Learning computer during my time in this corner of the world was also tough especially made difficult by the scarcity of books and limited access to the information highway or in today’s term, the CLOUD.

Now, everything is TOO EASY. With one click and the proper use of keywords, you get an easy answer. You can also use CHATGPT AI to construct you an essay, a mathematical formula and even programming algorithms.

Here’s the catch though, I think this advancement will be of great use to technologically adept individuals but will be a long-term disadvantage to the lazy and indolent students.

Without much further ado, the only point I want to arrive at is this, I am encouraging our youth to make use of today’s tech and your ‘younger years’ to enjoy learning. Focus on learning today because there will come a time that your priorities will definitely change and it will be hard to chase knowledge when you already face responsibilities as an adult.

In short, pagbutihin ang pag-aaral kabataan. Iwasan ang mga bisyong walang maiaambag sa ikagaganda ng iyong kinabukasan. Darating din ang panahon para sa ibang mga bagay bilang adult. Walang ibang gagawa ng karera mo sa buhay kundi IKAW.

This post is inspired by the things I commonly see now in our youth esp the ones who are privileged enough to study but who are not taking school as SERIOUSLY as possible. Believe us when we, as your elders, say; “BEEN THERE, DONE THAT.”
