We just wrapped up two legendary games of Cyclades: Legendary Edition ⚔️🏛️

To make the 3-player (3P) setup truly shine, we adopted several house rules we found on BGG—and the experience was fantastic.

Our 3P house rules:

👉 More dynamic bidding system – All players in turn order may for a single god. Lower bidders may still outbid the highest bidder or shift to another god.
👉 Apollo rotation – Apollo now rotates every other round, just like the other gods.
👉 Inis-style combat – Dice determine the winner; the loser discards a troop, and the battle continues until someone retreats or is eliminated.
👉 University discount – Universities now grant a discount when purchasing heroes.
👉 Philosopher trade – Trade 2 Philosophers to claim the top hero of the deck, provided you won Hera’s favor.
👉 Garrison variant (see BGG)

Inis + Seasons of Inis Expansion

Played 4 epic games of Inis with 3 players. The first game lasted almost 3 hours (2 hours and 56 minutes to be exact), but we barely felt the time as we were all in the zone. Ryan took game one.

The next two games went my way, both clocking in at just over an hour each.

But the last game… that one goes down as the best we’ve ever played (at least from my perspective). It turned into a full-on battle of attrition, and honestly, it was a game I had no business winning.

The penultimate round showed our strategy and tactics at their peak. Al was the first to claim a pretender token, but Ryan and I played the perfect cards to stop him. Then Ryan claimed his token, and at the last minute, Al and I shut him down as well.
So it all came down to a final, deciding round.

Final Round:
My chances of winning were very slim. But with some timely card plays, all three of us eventually claimed pretender tokens. At that point, it was clear the winner would be decided by a tiebreaker: whoever controls the capital and becomes the Brenn will be the winner.

Ryan was the Brenn.
Both Ryan and Al had clans in the capital. I had zero presence. My last move was hinged on drawing one Epic Tale card. Channeling my inner Yugi, I pulled the epic "CORMAC MAC AIRT" that turned the game on its head.

What followed was total chaos: the capital erupted into a frenzy of battles—attack after attack after attack. When the dust finally settled, only one figure remained on the map. My clan. I won. From zero to hero.

Simply my best game ever!!!

HOUSE RULE: We played all 21 action cards instead of the standard 13 cards for 3 players. 5 cards for each player, 1 card set aside, and 5 cards removed every season.

Doomlings All-In Session! 💥
(Base Game × Upgrade Pack × Imaginary Ends × Legends of Enderas × Shadow Puppets × Castle Glass)

Played 4 games using different modules:
🎮 Game 1: 2 players — Meaning of Life
🎮 Game 2: 3 players — Trinkets
🎮 Game 3: 2 players — Treasures
🎮 Game 4: 3 players — Treasures

✨ Treasures is my personal favorite. It integrates perfectly with the base gameplay. It slightly prolongs the session, but it’s worth it — the 5 in-game powers you can activate make every turn feel dynamic and fun.

💫 Meaning of Life comes next. It adds end-game goal cards that help boost scores — not a game-changer, but a nice addition.

😅 Trinkets, on the other hand, didn’t click with me. I’m not a fan of the play restrictions. Doomlings thrives on combos, and this module just made it feel more fiddly and less fluid.

Mission: Red Planet (20th Anniversary Edition) is our certified Libertalia killer.

Like Libertalia, MRP features a simultaneous card/character selection mechanic — but adds a spicy dose of area control. The two blend well together, both mechanically and thematically.

We first played three games with 3 players, and it felt strategic but a bit loose on the area control side. Then we added a fourth player… and boom! The game came alive — tighter, more tactical (and delightfully chaotic), more room for tense bluffing, and gloriously in-your-face. 😆

Mission: Red Planet, along with El Grande and Perch, now forms our holy trinity of light area control games - easy to grasp but packed with deliciously tense, confrontational moments.
