February marks a vibrant and highly anticipated celebration in the Philippinesโ€” the National Arts Month. As we celebrate this festival, this momentous occasion is a testimony to our country honoring her unwavering passion in the arts.

National Arts Month was established through the Presidential Proclamation No. 683 by President Corazon Aquino in 1991. The purpose of which is to honor the invaluable contributions of Filipino artists and cultural workers. Their artistic excellence pays tribute to uniqueness and diversity of Filipino heritage and culture.

Most annual celebrations of the arts happen on the African continent. The main reason of this festival is for there to be a space for artists and audiences to come together, engaging and creating unique cultural experiences that cannot be underestimated. The history of the Philippines and how different cultures meet makes the country's artworks interesting which holds the attention of audiences.

Arts can help understand the history of Philippines, their culture, lives and experiences; they can also be a source of inspiration and reflection. It is the expression of ideas and emotion through a physical medium.

In short, this year's National Arts Month, themed "Ari ng Sining, Diwa at Damdamin" highlights the ability of the arts to unite and to in inspire. The aim of the artists is to showcase their unique, excellent performance.

๐—ก๐—˜๐—ช๐—ฆ | GSCNHS Holds Project Gabay to Bridge Learning Gaps

General Santos City National High School (GSCNHS) recently held its 2nd Project Gabay, a peer tutoring initiative aimed at providing support to students facing academic challenges.

Spearheaded by Supreme Secondary Learners' Government (SSLG) grade ten representative, Josh Peรฑaranda, the program connects struggling students with volunteer tutors who offer free one-on-one or small group sessions.

Project Gabay was developed in collaboration with Curriculum Heads, Subject Organizations, and Grade Level Federations to identify students who would benefit most from the assistance.

Furthermore, Peรฑaranda's goal with Project Gabay is to bridge learning gaps, particularly for students with limited resources.

"Education should be accessible to everyone," Peรฑaranda said, emphasizing the need for a supportive environment where no student feels left behind in their academic journey.

In addition, Ivy Figueroa, an officer of the Yes-O Club, joined the program as part of her clubโ€™s responsibility to cover Science topics and saw it as an opportunity to help others and grow personally.

She believes Project Gabay benefits both students receiving help and the volunteered tutors, as it strengthens academic skills and leadership qualities.

Figueroa also noted that the program creates a comfortable environment where students can freely ask questions they might be too shy to ask their teachers.

For her, teaching others is a valuable way to reinforce her own learning, and it aligns with her role as a Yes-O officer.

Another participant, Macaine Fragante, shared that Project Gabay has helped him realize the power of students helping each other.

โ€œI believe that joining this initiative will help me in sharing my knowledge and blessings especially to those who are having a hard time in understanding their lessons. I also hoped that I will use the opportunities and benefits I've learned in joining the STE Program,โ€ Fragante stated.

Moreover, Peรฑaranda hopes that Project Gabay will inspire more initiatives at GSCNHS to support students and promote a culture of shared academic success.

๐—ก๐—˜๐—ช๐—ฆ | Newly Appointed Principal Initiates Room-to-Room Visit

General Santos City National High Schoolโ€™s (GSCNHS) newly appointed principal, Maโ€™am Matty Napoles, recently conducted a room-to-room visit in all Grade 9 sections at the PAGCOR building.

Together with Maโ€™am Napoles during the room-to-room visit was Rod Ryan Eturma, the newly installed Assistant to the Principal for Senior High School.

In an interview, Maโ€™am Napoles explained that the room-to-room visit was part of her responsibility as the new principal to get to know the students and teachers, as well as to ensure the schoolโ€™s objectives are being met.

She also took the opportunity to introduce herself as the new school head to both students and staff.

Furthermore, Maโ€™am Napoles expressed that seeing students actively engaged in their lessons within the classroom means a lot to her as a school head.

โ€œLearning is really happening, even without the school headโ€™s constant supervision,โ€ she remarked.

Maโ€™am Napoles also mentioned that based on her past experience, whenever she finds students outside the classroom, she checks on them to understand why they arenโ€™t in class, as it could indicate issues such as a teacherโ€™s absence.

The principal believes that regular campus supervision is vital for improving the schoolโ€™s overall performance.

She emphasized the importance of a school headโ€™s presence in the classroom to engage with students and gather feedback on their learning experiences.

โ€œThe presence of the school head inside the classroom, engaging with students and asking about their condition and learning experience, means a lot to the students,โ€ she stated.

Additionally, Maโ€™am Napoles mentioned that during her room-to-room visit, many students spoke about the "Magalang Bow" and she is committed to promoting this tradition, encouraging students to continue using the โ€œMagalang Bowโ€ both inside and outside the campus to uphold the tradition.

She also highlighted the importance of maintaining the schoolโ€™s "Seal of Excellence," acknowledging the challenges in sustaining such practices but expressing confidence that a hands-on leadership approach, like that of her predecessor Maโ€™am Sheila Balbon, will help preserve it.

๐—Ÿ๐—ข๐—ข๐—ž | GSCNHS opens renovated AVR

General Santos City National High School (GSCNHS) administrators and staff inaugurates the newly refurnished Audio Visual Room (AVR) through a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a school establishment blessing to formally start its operations.

Principal Shiela G. Balbon, together with school administrators, led the ribbon cutting of the AVR on Monday.

Francis Ray Templado, a student who has used the AVR since Grade 10, shared his excitement about the renovation, "As someone who has experiemce in using the AVR since Grade 10, I observed that it is only used for limited reasons and now that it is refurnished and renovated i am very happy because I think it can be used for other purposes now."

Before the renovation, the AVR was primarily used for limited activities.

"I am also hoping that it would be now more open for other purposes especially events or competencies which greatly involves students' participation such as theater," Templado expressed.

Furthermore, this event concluded with the blessing of other newly refurnished facilities, including the Special Program in Sports, the Special Program in the Arts' Dance Room, the Cookery Room, and a Free Water Machine for GSCNHS students.

Let's take a minute to consider our remarkable capacity for making significant resolutions as we bid the previous year farewell and enthusiastically welcome the new one and, by February, ultimately forget them. Cheers to another year of finally making up that we'll utilize our planners, eat better, and exercise more. Butโ€”heyโ€”we'll look spectacular in the January 1 gym selfies! May you have more laughs than some awkward small talk, fewer failures in adulthood, and just enough procrastination to keep things interesting this year. We must acknowledge that 2024 is really another opportunity to "try" and be productive while secretly relishing the mayhem. Greetings for a happy new year are full of laughter, wonderful moments, and questionable choices.

Kidding aside, Let's take time to consider the memories we've created, the lessons we've learned, and the development we've undergone as we bid the past farewell and welcome a new year. Cheers to a new beginning, a new chance, and the bravery to follow our aspirations. We hope that this year will help us reach our objectives, fill our hearts with love, and be filled with pleasure, laughter, and life-changing experiences. Let's enjoy the beauty of a fresh start and rise to the difficulties that lie ahead.
