How to Find Inner Peace and Happiness in the Chaos?

God is our source of peace. Acknowledging that is the first step!

Inner peace needs is not found in success or achievement. It is an inward feeling of satisfaction and security – a confidence that denotes trust in more than your circumstances or achievements. It is truly a gift – a longed for gift.

We cannot conjure up abiding inner peace – it involves a total trust in that we have done our part and are leaving it confidently in the hands of our Lord. Confident that He will complete the good work begun in us.

Inner peace gives us a calmness, clears our mind, helps us make wise choices, promotes wisdom in our very being, gives us confidence, denotes leadership ability, and helps us be decisive in our actions.

The most important step to achieving peace is to acknowledge the fact that you have control over your mind, including your thoughts and how you respond to others. The great gift to humans is the ability to choose our thoughts. Making the choice to let God take the wheel is the most productive of lifestyle choices.

"Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal rock." -Isaiah 26

“The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good.” Proverbs 15:3 NIV.

God sees everything- and sees it clearly. I love the term “keeping watch”- He not only sees you but is observing with discernment and protection.

”Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7b NIV.

God understands our value does not lie in our appearance. Our true faith and character reside within our hearts and God can see all that is within them.

•“For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.” 2 Chronicles 16:9a (NIV)

God knows your name, sees you, and acts on your behalf; especially when you are hurting. There is never a time when He is not loving, guarding, and protecting you!

We expect everything to be immediate and ideal, don’t we? Our hearts desire answers to our requests neatly packaged and tied with an appealing bow. But sometimes, what we are gifted by our loving Father doesn’t seem presentable. His blessings can appear ugly by the world’s standards. He works in the uncomfortable: a diagnosis we don’t want, a broken heart that oozes hurt, a problem that seems too big (Matthew 7:7-11).

But He knows what we struggle to fathom: the doorway to true joy, deep peace, and unrelenting hope is often fashioned from solid building blocks forged during our most challenging seasons when our desires appear to be so far away (Romans 5:3-5). Those are the times when God wants to hold us intimately close to His heart.
(Isaiah 40:11). During those times, we must ask ourselves, “What if the thing He is about to do is not something for us but something in us?”

“For I am about to do something new. See I have already begun. Do you not see it?” Isaiah 43:19

In our hearts, we must confront this question as well. What if He doesn’t? What if the thing we dread most comes to pass? He is still our God. We are still His beloved daughters. He is always good, He always gives us Himself, and that is more than enough. I believe it shows where our hearts should be. He is still the King Most High. He alone is still worthy of our worship. It is still worth it. It would be far better for me to perish than to live a life of bowing down to a lesser god.

Even if He Does Not—He is Still Good

Whatever your greatest sin is, it’s weaker than God’s grace. To put it differently, God’s grace is greater than not just your worst sin, but every sin you’ve ever committed…combined.

The reality is that even though we barely understand the depth of our sin, we vastly underestimate the power of God’s grace!

How could our sin be greater than God and his grace? Nothing in all creation—not even the longest list of sins you can imagine—can overcome God’s powerful grace.

But hope means that we must trust and wait for what is still unseen. For why would we need to hope for something we already have? So because our hope is set on what is yet to be seen, we patiently keep on waiting for its fulfilment. - Romans 8:24-25

In the times we’re living in today, it’s no wonder stress-related illnesses are so common. There are plenty of reasons for us to become overwhelmed by the burdens of life, and it only takes a moment of watching the news to be reminded of the uncertain world in which we live.

Sometimes I wonder—did God really believe we would have the strength to face this life? But then I remember: He never expected us to carry the weight of this world on our shoulders. Of course, being a Christian doesn’t exempt us from the threats of danger, but it does mean that we have the ability to remain calm in the midst of chaos. “That’s impossible,” you may say—but isn’t this what Jesus commanded of us?

In John 14:1, He says, “Let not your heart be troubled.” So what does this mean, and how can we apply this verse to our lives during seasons of uncertainty?

He wants us to see that, through Him, there is no reason to fear or be troubled by the affairs of life. It is also through Him that we have access to our Father who cares for us and has prepared an eternal home for us. Therefore, the only reason we should become fearful would be if we did not have access to the Father.

All of us face times in our life when we struggle with fear and doubt, or are reluctant to share our faith with others. But by the boldness of our faith, we can remind ourselves of God’s truth, and grow in courage.

If you are stressed, take some time, even just a few minutes to sit in God's presence and rest in Him. The problem may still be there but having spent time in God's presence, you will remember that God is bigger than any circumstance that we face.

God also wants you to find rest in His presence. Rest is intimately tied to God’s presence.

"And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

“We love Him because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19)

Love made the first move; our love for God is simply a response to His love for us. We have the capacity to love, now understanding what love really is and how we can express that without fear because He first loved us—because He modeled for us what love looks like.

To love God means to obey Him, especially considering that His commandments are not burdensome. (1 John 5:3), that our love should be a sincere love—like the love the Father has for us. We should not love simply with words, but with sincerity in our deeds (1 John 3:18).

Sometimes, we just need to stay the course, to not lose heart, not give up too soon, not throw away our confidence. We may be used to being in control, to “having a clue,” to be moving at a steady pace, and yet we may find ourselves in a place where none of those things are happening.

Don’t panic. God knows what he is doing. He knows how to get us where we need to be. He knows how to take care of what needs to happen next.

Don’t lose your peace. Just keep taking one step at a time, doing the last thing God directed you to do. Don’t get sidetracked by what is or isn’t happening, or what other people might be thinking about you, or even by what you feel.

When we find ourselves in an unfamiliar place where we feel lost or stuck or uncertain, it may not even be that we’ve done anything wrong or missed something.. sometimes, it’s simply that God is still moving the pieces around, moving people into place, doing some maturing and testing of our character and faith, lining things up so He can do exceedingly above all we could ask, think, dream, or imagine.

If He said, it He will do it, and He won’t be a moment late. Nothing, absolutely nothing, is too hard for Him.

Trust him. Give Him room to show His presence. And remember, He’s just moving the pieces around!
