“The Silent Breakup Before the Real Breakup”

Sometimes relationships end long before the “break up” are ever spoken. It starts with less laughter, less talking, less affection. You’re still together but the connection has already packed its bags. The feeling nga kamo pa and naa pa ang tao pero murag dili na nimo ma feel ang presence niya sa imoha.

Now did you notice early enough to save it, or did you only see it when it was gone?

And if you will be given a chance to save it will you?

There were days when reality felt too sharp —
too loud, too uncertain, too much.
And in those moments, I didn’t run.
I read.

Books became my escape.
Not because I wanted to forget,
but because I needed to breathe.

Between pages, I found worlds
where pain had purpose,
where love was written in ink
and not in silence,
where endings made sense
and beginnings were always waiting.

I met characters who felt like friends,
who spoke the words I couldn’t say out loud.
I traveled to places I’d never seen,
felt emotions I didn’t know I was allowed to
feel,
and healed in stories
that weren’t mine —
but somehow were.

Books didn’t fix me.
They didn’t erase the ache.
But they gave me shelter
when everything else felt like a storm.

And in that quiet refuge,
I found pieces of myself
I didn’t know were missing.

So yes — books became my escape.
But more than that,
they became my way back to me.

I will always love you —
not in the way that clings,
but in the way that remembers.

Not in the way that begs,
but in the way that bows
to what is true.

I loved you enough
to hold on
when it was beautiful,
and I love you enough
to let go
now that it’s not.

You were never mine to keep,
only mine to cherish
for the time we had.

And though my heart
still whispers your name
in quiet moments,
I no longer ask you to stay.

I set you free —
not because I stopped loving you,
but because I finally started
loving myself.

So go.
Be who you need to be.
Find the peace
I couldn’t give you.

And know this:
my love remains,
soft and steady,
but no longer waiting.

We loved like the sun —
bright, burning,
beautiful in its time.

But even the sun
must dip below the horizon,
and so did we.

Not with anger,
not with regret —
just the quiet grace
of knowing
it was time to set.

I remember the way you looked at me the first time — like the world had paused just long enough for us to notice each other. There was something electric in your eyes, something that made me feel seen in a way I hadn’t before. It wasn’t just attraction; it was recognition, like your soul had been searching and mine had finally answered. That look stayed with me, tucked into the corners of my memory, glowing softly like a candle that never quite burns out.

And then there was the last time.

Your eyes met mine, but they didn’t hold me. They passed through me, distant and dim, like they were already looking at a future I wasn’t part of. There was no anger, no drama — just quiet resignation. That look shattered me more than any words could. It was the moment I realized love doesn’t always leave with a bang. Sometimes, it slips away in silence, in a glance that no longer lingers.

Two looks. One that began everything, and one that ended it. And somehow, they both live in me — reminders of how love arrives, and how it leaves.

I loved him first —
before she knew his laugh,
before his eyes learned how to look at someone else
like they meant home.

I memorized the way he sighed
when the world felt too heavy,
and how he held silence
like it was a language only I could understand.

I loved him when he was still learning
how to be loved.
When his heart was a locked door
and I kept knocking
with poems instead of keys.

She may have him now,
but I loved him first —
in the quiet,
in the chaos,
in the kind of way that never asks to be remembered.
