Students from New Corella National High School-Senior High School (NCNHS-SHS) excelled at the recently concluded district research congress held at Macgum Integrated School.

With a mission to present research that makes a meaningful impact on society, NCNHS-SHS students showcased a variety of qualitative and quantitative studies, earning top awards in both oral and poster presentations.

Grade 12 student Aiyah Rose Manliguis, coached by Mharla Abenoja, secured first place in the qualitative oral research presentation. Similarly, Kate Amanda Loreen Palmero, guided by coaches Bryan Benegian and Jester Alejan, achieved first place in the poster presentation. In the quantitative categories, Grade 12 students Hubert Ian Penaso, coached by Nikki Paye Javinez, and Stefany Faith Hibaya, mentored by Cee Jae Darunday, both claimed first place in their respective oral and poster presentations.

Research coordinator Mharla Abenoja expressed her immense pride in the studentsโ€™ achievements, highlighting the schoolโ€™s commitment to developing learners who are not only academically strong but also socially aware.

She emphasized the importance of equipping students with the skills to analyze societal issues and propose viable solutions.

Moreover, the winners will advance to the division research congress level.

Loud echoes of cheers and yells fill the air, with the deafening shouts of triumph and groans of defeat. Under the scorching heat of the sun, athletes are drenched in sweat as they run for victory. But as loud the crowd is, there are those on silent standby, scanning the sea of people as they look out for signs of emergencyโ€”the student medics.

"Time, effort, and skills." These are just some of the sacrifices they make, says Angel. While everyone experiences the enjoyment of games and shared laughter, medics stand apart, their gaze sticking at those who need them. Their commitment to their duty resonates a calmness against chaos.

They are the front liner during these times, their presence providing a sense of safety and reassurance. In days like Intramurals, the risk of accidents is doubled. May it be a broken bone from a softball game, a scrapped knee from a failed volleyball jump, or dizziness from the parching heat of the eleven o'clock sun.

As they are outshined by the players and athletes who appear to be the stars of the show, their work is as important. They are always there, committed, one call away.

The event, last held in 2019, made a vibrant return this year, made possible with the support of the Bureau of Fire Protection of New Corella.

In addition, the color party provided not only fun and enjoyment for students but also fostered socialization, building friendships, and promoting camaraderie among the school community.

The annual Intramurals kicked off with the iconic torch lighting ceremony, symbolizing the school's dedication to helping students uncover their potential. This year, the honor went to Xacks Jacob C. Bolador, a young man whose journey in dancesports began at the tender age of seven.

His path was anything but easy, filled with rigorous training and practice that led him to the Palarong Pambansa. Supported by his coach, the unwavering love of his parents, and the camaraderie of his fellow dancers, Xacks has become a beacon of perseverance.

"Don't let the challenge overwhelm you. Focus on your goals, and never stop believing in yourself,โ€ he advised. His aspirations now reach beyond the national level, aiming for international competitionsโ€”a testament to his unwavering drive.

As Xacks lit the torch, it symbolized not only his hard work but also the hopes and dreams of his grade level. The flame illuminated the field, lighting up the eager faces of the students, and marking the official start of the Intramurals.

Throughout the events, athletes like Xacks demonstrated that the Intramurals were not just about winning. They celebrated effort, teamwork, and personal growth. This program prepares participants for the upcoming Division Schools Press Conference by introducing them to new trends in journalism and encouraging analytical thinking.

"This four-day training is not just about learning the basics; itโ€™s about preparing yourselves for the evolving challenges of journalistic writing, setting you up for success in future competitions," Principal IV Raquel Tagalinao said.

In line with Republic Act 7079, also known as the Campus Journalism Act, Exelsis Deo Deloy stressed that campus journalists have a responsibility to develop analytical thinking on social issues.

"Don't think your organization is weak. You are independent and powerful. Think critically, uphold moral character and values, and expand your network within the community," he added.

Moreover, group events are held at New Corella National High School, while individual events will take place at New Corella Central Elementary School SPED Center.

The New Corella District partnered with Provincial Information Communication and Knowledge Management Office (PICKMO), led by Mervin Suaybaguio, to hone studentsโ€™ skills, particularly in group events.

โ€œThis is a great opportunity for New Corella District to learn more about journalism with guidance from experts at the Provincial Office,โ€ said Principal IV Raquel Tagalinao during her opening remarks.

Tagalinao thanked Suaybaguio for dedicating time to help student journalists learn new trends in journalism and reach their full potential.

The training focused on group events like TV Broadcasting, Radio Broadcasting, Online Publishing, and Collaborative and Desktop Publishing, giving participants hands-on experience and practical skills in reporting, writing, and multimedia production.

โ€œWe must defend our belt as the champion of the National Schools Press Conference. Go beyond your limits and tell your self that you must be in Vigan City,โ€ Guilaran stressed.

She encouraged coaches to foster a deeper understanding of journalism and to teach campus journalism the importance of writing and critical reading.

In accordance with Presidential Proclamation No. 242, series of 2011, the celebration will run from September 5 to October 5, aligning with the national observance to recognize the pivotal role of teachers in society.
