SINGING WITH YOUR NOSE
Yes. You have been told that you sound like you're singing with your nose. Some people say "you sound nasal". Some will say "nasality". Local men like me will say "you're using your nose to sing" 😁
But wait first.🫣 What does it actually mean to "sing with your nose"? 🤔
Normally, we need our nose to sing. Why? Because our voice needs the nasal cavity for resonance. If our voice doesn't resonate in our nasal cavity, you will strain as there will be more pressure in the larynx. Ok before you say I'm being to complicated, let me explain.

Most of the reasons for feeling pain when we sing is because we don't actually take the sound of our voice to the nose. Before our voice leaves our mouth, it resonates in certain vocal tracts (chest, larynx, mouth, pharynx, and nasal cavity). If they don't, there will be too much pressure on the larynx, and you will strain. So yes, as you sing, you need to direct the sound to your nasal cavity. Where is the nasal cavity? The space directly behind your nose.

I know. I know. What's in your mind right now is this question: "but won't taking the sound to the nasal cavity mean singing with the nose"? Well, not exactly.

Taking the sound to your nasal cavity is not going to make you sound like you're singing with you nose. Not at all. In fact, it's gonna make you sing a lot better.

So how then do we stop "singing with our nose"? First, you need to know why your voice sounds like you're singing with your nose.

The truth is, you're not actually singing with your nose. In fact, you sounding like you're singing with your nose has nothing to do with your nose. What's the cause??? A TIGHT LARYNX.
When your larynx is tight, you will sound nosey. Whether you direct the sound to your nasal cavity or not. You will always sound nosey. That's why you sound like you're singing with your nose.
So how do you fix this? You have to know what causes a tight larynx to fix it.

1. A HIGH LARYNX FOR HIGH NOTES: You want to sing high notes and your larynx is moving up?? No nahh. This will tighten up the larynx and you will sound nasal. Most times this happens when you try to sing on a note that's too high for you so try to stick to your vocal tessitura (vocal type), and you'll be fine.

2. Breath support: If your breath support is not good, you will not only get extrinsic tension, you will also get a high larynx. Why? Breathing with the diaphragm allows the lungs to expand more. This, in turn, pulls the windpipe downwards. Since the windpipe is attached to the larynx, thanks to the Cricord cartilage, your larynx will stay neutral and won't need to move up and tighten up.

3. VOCAL REGISTERS: At the top or highest of every vocal register, your larynx will move up and tighten. This is why you need to learn how to use and move from the lower registers (vocal fry and chest voice) to the higher registers (mixed, head voice, and falsetto) so you won't have to bother about straining as you go high.

So I hope from now on, you will stop pronouncing "LOVE" as "LUNV" when you sing because it can be so funny. 😂😂. "JESUS" will be sounding like "JESUNS"
So you really need to fix it. Get good breath support and control, use resonance properly, use your vocal registers and sing high notes with a neutral larynx. To make this easier to fix, I'll suggest you find a vocal coach immediately. If you can't find one, you can join our voice lesson . where you'll not only fix the problems of sounding NOSEY but other singing problems that you thought will never leave.
