Kneeling during the Creed on Christmas
Based on General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM), it is "... made by bending the right knee to the ground, signifies adoration, and therefore it is reserved for the Most Blessed Sacrament." The gesture is essential because it is ultimately directed towards God, who is truly present in the Holy Eucharist. However, there are a few exceptions to this rule that are discussed in the GIRM. Genuflection is also asked for special occasions, among which is during the recitation of the Creed on Christmas. At the words "and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man", the faithful would genuflect. This physical gesture is meant to remind them of the reality of the Incarnation and how Jesus descended into the world to become one of us.
