The City Government of Davao warmly greets everyone gathered here for the celebration of the 126th Anniversary of the Declaration of the Philippine Independence anchored on the theme โKalayaan. Kinabukasan.Kasaysayanโ.
Today, we are gathered to commemorate 126 years of sovereignty as well as to honor this great legacy left to us by our forefathers who displayed true courage, bravery, and patriotism.
On Independence Day, we do not only celebrate our liberation but also place emphasis on the importance of remembering the adversities we have overcome and the ideals we fight for. The freedom we experience in the present is the result of the unyielding resolve of our ancestors to reclaim our right to govern ourselves as a sovereign nation, pursue the aspirations of our people, and manage our own economic resources.
While we pay tribute to their countless sacrifices and reflect on the past, we must also look toward the future as our independence is not just a historical milestone but an unceasing journey. It is our duty and moral responsibility to maintain this freedom by learning
from our past mistakes and tackling the current issues that obstruct our growth as a nation.
Lastly, we encourage everyone, especially the youth, to uphold the values of patriotism and democracy as you hold the key to the future. As you go out into the world, make wise decisions that not only benefit you but also contribute to the greater good. Always be reminded that the consequences of your actions and choices can

Grab, MOVE IT nagsagawa ng Road Safety Training Program para sa mga driver at rider sa Davao
Bilang bahagi ng kanilang patuloy na dedikasyon sa kaligtasan sa kalsada, ang Grab at MOVE IT, ipinagdiwang ang Buwan ng Kaligtasan sa Kalsada sa buwan ng Hunyo sa pamamagitan ng pagsasanay sa kaligtasan sa kalsada para sa mga driver, rider at delivery partners sa Davao at iba pang pangunahing lungsod.
Ang Road Safety Program na tinawag na "Drive Safe: Takbong Swabe, Safe Palagi!" na dinaluhan ng libu-libong kalahok, ay nakatuon sa mga kritikal na aspeto ng kaligtasan sa kalsada, gaya ng defensive driving, maintenance ng sasakyan at mga batas at regulasyon sa trapiko.
Bilang pangunahing tampok ng programa, opisyal ding inilunsad ng Grab at MOVE IT ang dalawang bagong safety feature sa mga driver app: ang Fatigue Nudge at ang Real-Time Overspeeding Alert.
Ang Fatigue Nudge ay isang smart driver fatigue management feature na sumusubaybay sa aktibong online na oras ng mga driver at nagpapadala ng paalala na magpahinga kapag lumampas na sila sa inirerekomendang online threshold. Ang feature na ito ay magiging live sa mga driver app ng Grab at MOVE IT ngayong buwan.
Ang Real-Time Overspeeding Alert, sa kabilang banda, ay isang feature na hinihikayat ang mga driver na sundin ang mga speed limit sa kalsada. Gamit ang katumpakan ng GrabMaps, magpapakita ng pulang ilaw ang speedometer ng sasakyan kapag lumampas ang driver sa speed limit upang mag-udyok sa driver na bagalan ang takbo ng sasakyan.
"Ang kaligtasan ay isang pundasyon ng lahat ng aming ginagawa sa Grab," binigyang-diin ni Ronald Roda, Chief Operating Officer ng Grab Philippines. "Para sa amin, tinitingnan namin ang kaligtasan bilang sama-samang responsibilidad ng lahat ng aming mga stakeholder โ maging ito'y mga pasahero, regulator, driver at mga platform."
Ang program ay inihandog sa pakikipagtulungan sa CEMEX, Philippine National Police (PNP) at mga lokal na eksperto sa transportasyon, na bawat isa ay nagsagawa ng hiwalay na workshop na nakatuon sa pagpapalaganap ng kaligtasan sa kalsada.
Pinangunahan ng CEMEX ang isang workshop na nagtuturo sa mga driver at rider tungkol sa pagpapanatili ng ligtas na distansya at mga blind spot, na napakahalagang mga hakbang sa kaligtasan lalo na para sa mga maselan na motorista tulad ng mga driver ng dalawang gulong.
Samantala, pinatibay ng mga eksperto sa transportasyon ang mga batas at regulasyon sa trapiko sa pamamagitan ng isang workshop na idinisenyo upang itaas ang pag-unawa ng mga driver at rider sa mga responsibilidad sa kalsada. Ipinaliwanag ni Roda na ang mga workshop ay bahagi ng layunin ng Grab na tiyakin ang kaligtasan sa mga kalsada at highway upang lumikha ng isang mas maalam at maingat na kumunidad ng drivers at riders.
Inulit din ng Grab at MOVE IT ang kanilang pakikipagtulungan sa PNP na isulong ang isang mapagkakatiwalaan at ligtas na kapaligiran sa transportasyon para sa bawat gumagamit ng app. Bilang bahagi ng pangakong ito, ang Emergency SOS Button ay magagamit sa mga pasahero sa kanilang biyahe at nagbibigay ng direktang linya sa mga hotline ng pulisya para sa agarang tulong kung kinakailangan.
"Bahagi ito ng pangako ng Grab na higit pa sa simpleng paghatid ng mga indibidwal. Ito ay may kasamang patuloy na dedikasyon upang matiyak na ang bawat biyahe ay katumbas ng kaligtasan," paliwanag ni Roda.
Dagdag pa niya, "patuloy na pinapahusay ng Grab ang aming mga hakbang sa kaligtasan at seguridad, isinusulong ang pag-unlad ng kakayahan ng mga driver, pinapagana ang mga makabagong teknolohiya sa kaligtasan at nakikipagtulungan sa mga kaparehong organisasyon upang ibahagi ang isang hinaharap para sa ride-hailing na ligtas, secure at responsable."

We would like to address the recent news reported by NOLI DE CASTRO OF DWPH RADYO 630 TELERADYO SERBISYO BALITA, posted on social media on June 4, 2024, under the headline "RE. BARBERS: 37 PULIS SA DAVAO NAG POSITIBO SA DRUG TEST."
Davao City Police Office (DCPO) recently conducted a surprise drug test on May 30, 2024, and all personnel tested negative for methamphetamine hydrochloride (Shabu). We want to inform everyone that in previous months, this office conducted regular random drug tests to all DCPO personnel, and based on records, all were tested NEGATIVE results.
We appeal to the public not to share or spread this false information, as it can cause doubt and affect public trust.
Davao City Police Office (DCPO) is still committed to serving with utmost sincerity and dedication to ensure the security and safety of Dabawenyos and the city.
