Rahima Jamil and Jenna Mae Himaya claimed top spots in the athletics category during the Mindanao Association of State Tertiary Schools (MASTS) Friendship Games 2024. The event took place in Dao, Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, from November 23 to 30, 2024, where they competed against other State Universities and Colleges (SUCs).
Jamil made a powerful finish in the 4x400m relay, overtaking North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU), which finished third, and sending Bukidnon State University (BukSU) to second place. With only two meters separating the competitors at the finish line, Jamilโs split-second acceleration earned her a well-deserved gold medal, securing her spot in the platform as the eventโs top competitor. Her remarkable performances didnโt stop thereโshe also earned silver in the 4x400m mixed relay and bronze in the womenโs 800m event, both of which were tightly contested against the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP).
Meanwhile, Himaya overcame challenges to clinch a bronze medal in the 2K walkathon. Despite limited training and her monthly period, she still competed against some of the region's top female athletes. Himayaโs signature techniqueโa swift and powerful swing of the hipsโ propelled her to the front of the pack, allowing her to secure her place on the podium ahead of the other SUCs.
The impressive achievements of Jamil and Himaya highlight their dedication and exceptional athleticism. Their success in athletics serves as a testament to their skill and commitment, bringing pride to JRMSU-Tampilisan Campus.
