"Lord, Sign Mo Ba 'To? My Rollercoaster Journey of Faith, Failures, and Passing PNP Promotional Exams"

It all started in 2002. Driven by my dream to join the Philippine National Police (PNP), I decided to take the NAPOLCOM Entrance Examination. I prayed to the Lord and said, “Lord, if it’s really Your will for me to serve the country as a police officer, give me a sign.” And that sign came when I passed the exam.

In 2003, I tried applying for recruitment under Batch 2003-A. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it. But I didn’t give up. I prayed again and thought, maybe it just wasn’t the right time yet. Later that year, I tried again. This time, I got accepted as part of Batch 2003-B.

One thing I learned from that experience is this: if things aren’t falling into place, don’t force them. It might not be the right time yet, and forcing it might lead to setbacks or failures. Patience and faith are key.

Over the years, I passed all the NAPOLCOM promotional exams for both PO and SPO ranks. I never forgot to pray and thank the Lord. But here’s where the story gets interesting.

In June 2024, I took the Police Officer 2nd Class Promotional Examination for the first time—and I failed. That period in my life, I realized, was one where I had been so focused on my goals that I forgot to seek the Lord’s guidance. I was so caught up in wanting to pass that I neglected to pray wholeheartedly.

In October 2024, I decided to try again. At that time, I was the Officer-in-Charge of the Ilocos Sur Provincial Cyber Response Team. Then, unexpectedly, I received an order to transfer to the Pangasinan Provincial Cyber Response Team. That same day, I learned it was the last day to file for the promotional exam for November 2024.

I believe God works through people to make things happen. I remembered a good Samaritan—a NAPOLCOM officer whom I had worked with in a previous activity. I had his number, so I mustered the courage to call him and ask if it was possible to file late. Since I was busy conducting a cybercrime awareness lecture, I missed some of his calls, but he followed up with a text saying, “Wait until Friday.”

When I finally got to talk to him, I asked if I could take the exam in Pangasinan instead. His response made me laugh: “You’re asking me for a slot, but you want to take the exam somewhere else?” I couldn’t explain to him that it was my last day as OIC in Ilocos Sur, but I realized he was right. So, I filed for the exam in Ilocos Sur as he advised.

After taking the exam in November 2024, I prayed again. I said, “Lord, if it’s Your will for me to continue serving the country, help me pass this exam. That will be the sign I’m asking for.”

I had already spoken with my wife and told her that if I failed, I would file for optional retirement. But she encouraged me and said, “Trust in the Lord, and you’ll pass.” I laughed it off, but deep down, her faith gave me strength.

Then the results came out—I passed the promotional examination! That moment reminded me of Jeremiah 29:11:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

To those who are still trying to enter the PNP or striving for a promotion, don’t lose hope. Keep going, keep praying, and trust in the Lord. Everything happens in His perfect time.

No PUPs Allowed

Hang on, I'm not puppy haters.

PUA / PUP (potentially unwanted application / potentially unwanted program) is a software that you may not have installed willingly, as sometimes it comes bundled with free apps. (Nothing is ever free – keep that in mind.)

Although it doesn't cost anything to use it, a PUA / PUP may display pop-ups (uhg!) or even install a toolbar in your browser of choice. It can even go so far as to replace your default search engine.

This type of software can become malicious over time, if cyber criminals get a hold of it. So the fix is to uninstall it.

And next time you install an app, go to advanced settings and make sure nothing else is installed without your consent.
