WORLD DYSLEXIA DAY

Dyslexia is a common learning disorder that affects a person's ability to read and write properly. Dyslexics are often unable to read quickly and write without committing errors. Dyslexics might struggle with reading, writing, vocabulary, and tasks that require hand-eye coordination. It affects 20% of the population and makes up 80% to 90% of all those with learning disorders. World Dyslexia Day raises awareness about these issues and what can be done to manage such a disorder.

World Snake Day, held every year on July 16, aims to increase awareness regarding the over 3,500 snake species that exist across the world.

Not all of them are as scary or venomous as we believe them to be. The fascinating reptiles are often not given the recognition they deserve just because of the bad reputation they have earned over the years. For instance, a friend who is a traitor is known as a snake.' The day aims to change the negative perception surrounding snakes and promote the love for all living beings even the ones we fear.

THE PHILIPPINE EAGLE WAS DECLARED
AS PHILIPPINE NATIONAL BIRD

On July 15, 1995, President Fidel Ramos signed Proclamation No. 615 declaring the Philippine Eagle as the national bird.

With a wingspan of nearly seven feet and a top speed of 80 kilometers per hour, it can gracefully swoop down on an unsuspecting monkey and carry it off without breaking flight.

The Philippine Eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi), also known as the Monkey-eating Eagle, stands a meter high, weighs from four to seven kilograms, and has a grip three times the strength of the strongest man on earth.

AN EARTHOUAKE WITH EPICENTER NEAR
CABANATUAN CITY JOLTED A WIDE AREA OF LUZON

On July 16, 1990, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake with epicenter located 10 kilometers southeast of Cabanatuan City. Nueva Ecija, jolted a wide area of Luzon at 4.26 pm, with its main shock lasting some 45 seconds, killing over 1,600 people and injuring hundreds of others.

A state of calamity was declared in the cities of Cabanatuan, Baguio, Dagupan, San Carlos, Palayan and San Jose and in the provinces of Nueva Ecija. Benguet and Pangasinan.
