A Man Called Otto
I just finished watching A Man Called Otto, and it left a lesson engraved in my heart. The movie's touching scenes conveyed deep lessons that only those who can relate to them will truly understand.
Otto is a grumpy old man; that's how they describe him because he notices everything. He gets angry when someone doesn't follow the rules or struggles with even the simplest tasks. 'Idiot' seems to be his favorite word for those who don't meet his life's rules. However, behind his grumpy attitude lies an Otto with a big heart. He wears that grumpy mask to hide his pain, believing he lost his purpose in life when he lost his wife, Sonya. He thinks nothing works without her.
Otto tried to kill himself multiple times because he couldn't find a reason to live anymore. That changed when he met Marisol and Malcolm, who always needed his help. That's when he rediscovered a reason to live - he wanted to help because, despite his grumpy attitude, he had a BIG HEART.
The ending is both sad and fulfilling. It's sad because OTTO died, but it's fulfilling because he didn't die by su***de; he died while truly living. He lived his life and served his purpose before his BIG HEART literally consumed him.
This movie conveys millions of messages about living. It emphasizes that everyone has a purpose in life and a role to play in someone's life. Even when we feel useless, we are needed and connected in ways we may not realize. We all have the potential to be a helping hand to others, even if we don't care or like to care for anyone.
