Philippines to Host 2026 ASEAN Tourism Forum After Formal Handover

The Philippines on Monday formally accepted the chairmanship of the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2026, with Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco receiving a symbolic gavel from Malaysian Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing during a ceremonial handover at the Johor International Convention Center.

Frasco said the Philippines would host the 29th ASEAN Tourism Ministers’ Meeting in the province of Cebu in January 2026, with preparatory meetings to be held in Manila and Boracay. A TRAVEX trade show and various conferences will also form part of the official ATF 2026 schedule.

“As the Philippines takes on the Chairmanship of ASEAN 2026, I invite you to join us in the Philippines for the 29th ASEAN Tourism Ministers’ Meeting in Cebu,” Frasco told delegates at a “Love the Philippines Night” event. “It will be an opportunity not just to discuss policies, but to witness firsthand the immense potential for sustainable tourism growth in the region.”

Frasco praised Cebu as a “hallmark of unity” among communities, businesses and governments, citing it as an example of a profitable and responsible tourism model. She added that the Philippines would extend its “spirit of hospitality” to all visitors, calling the event an opportunity to strengthen regional collaboration on tourism.

The handover took place at the close of ATF 2025, which was attended by delegates from ASEAN member states as well as representatives from Japan, Russia, China and India. The Philippines’ acceptance of the ATF 2026 chairmanship underscores its commitment to bolstering regional tourism recovery and sustainable development, officials said.

PAL expands Cebu hub with new link to Catarman, more flights to Siargao

Philippine Airlines (PAL) is further boosting its network hub in Cebu by introducing a new Cebu-Catarman route and mounting more frequent flights between and

From March 1, the flag carrier is pioneering a thrice weekly service to link Cebu with City, the capital of Northern Samar and one of the leading commercial and educational centers in Eastern Visayas.

Likewise from March 1, PAL is ramping up its popular Cebu-Siargao services by adding midmorning flights on Wednesdays and Sundays, for a total of 18 weekly flights between Cebu and Siargao Island, the surfing capital of the Philippines and home to pristine beaches, white sand islets and hidden lagoons.

“Philippine Airlines is happy to upgrade services to Catarman through this new link from Cebu. Samar residents and travelers will now have better access to Cebu, and the new route will also give Cebuanos more options to visit Northern Samar,” said PAL Express President Mr. Rabbi Ang. “The new Cebu hub services to Catarman and Siargao are part of our continuing commitment to enhance inter-island connectivity, boosting tourism and stimulating business.”

“We are glad to partner with the Northern Samar government authorities and the local community in helping build up air travel to support the success of this new route to Catarman,” he added.

The Cebu-Catarman flights will operate with the 86-seater De Havilland Dash 8 Series 400 Next Generation aircraft, offering near-jet speeds and quieter comfort than comparable aircraft.

Travelers from Catarman City may use PAL’s Cebu hub to connect conveniently to Caticlan (Boracay), Clark, Busuanga (Coron), Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo, Puerto Princesa and Siargao.

PAL also serves Catarman with four weekly flights to and from Manila.

To promote the new Cebu-Catarman-Cebu service, PAL is offering a special introductory base fare as low as PHP 698. The fare is available until January 31 and for travel from March 1.

The flag carrier also serves Siargao with two daily flights to and from Manila, and three weekly flights from Clark.

🌴🌞 ** - A Traveler's Guide to What NOT to Do in Paradise** 🌞🌴

1. **Don't Mistake Sunscreen for Mayo:** When making a beach sandwich, remember, SPF 50 doesn't taste great with tuna.

2. **Avoid the Sand Spa Facial:** Believe it or not, getting whipped in the face by sand during windy days isn't the exfoliation treatment you’re looking for.

3. **Don't Bring Home a Pet Jellyfish:** As cool as it sounds, "Jelly" won't enjoy the aquarium life back home.

4. **Mermaid Lessons Are Harder Than They Look:** Before you sign up, remember, flippers don’t come with a how-to guide, and singing underwater is a skill not even Ariel mastered overnight.

5. **Keep Your Happy Hour Happy:** Mixing every cocktail on the menu might seem like a good idea, but your morning self will not thank you.

6. **Forget About Being a Sandcastle Mogul:** Building a sand empire during high tide is about as effective as selling ice cream in a snowstorm.

7. **Avoid the Instagram Illusion:** Chasing that perfect sunset pic is great until you realize you've spent your whole vacation through a lens. Spoiler: the sunset is also pretty without a filter.

8. **Don't Pack for an Arctic Expedition:** It's Boracay, not the North Pole. That fur coat is going to look a bit out of place.

9. **Beware of Coconut Overload:** Yes, coconuts are everywhere. No, that doesn't mean you should try to consume them in every form available... unless you want to find out how "going natural" can go too far.

10. **Lastly, Don't Forget Why You Came:** To relax, enjoy, and make memories (not just the kind you share on social media)!

🌊👣 ** ** 👣🌊

Remember, folks, the best memories often come from the unexpected moments. Enjoy Boracay, but maybe leave the pet jellyfish behind. 😉🐠
